BenQ GW2x50(HM) thread.

Still haven't bought them.. ideally want to find someone who has them and can show me the trailing.. specifically if it's lighter trails or darker trailers, a video of some kind would be nice?

Only VA for me from now on. Bought LG 27EA83 at the very cheap price of 900€ and guess what. Full of backlight bleed in the botton left corner. FUCK!!!

Unacceptable for 1000$ monitor. F*** you IPS.

Asking alot I think you are. In my case the ghosting is red where eg faces border on dark background eg dark hair. Is very noticeable on ,my early model. Only those circumstances though. Took me about 2 months to see it - I use mine as a TV screen which u dont really stare at all the time hard. I think you' ll have to buy and test and return if not acceptable. I ve learnt to accept mine as for the price I get decent contrast and blacks. But if you are in the USA dont bother to consider BenQ

thanks for the link but I think I just going to go and buy a good monitor calibration device I was looking at the Spyder 4 Pro but do not know if it is any good. Can someone please recommend me a good device to calibrate my monitor correctly please ? I really do not want to have to start a guessing game like I normally do and start to doubt whether the calibrations I am doing look better or if I am doing it correctly. I just want a good device to take of all that for me and does not break the bank.

Thanks

Well after using the same setting that tftcentral used to calibrate the GW2750HM. I am highly impressed with the colors on this monitor I am so glad I decided to buy it after reading all the mixed reviews in this thread. I don't know if I am lucky and got one of the better ones or what but this is the best monitor I have ever owned. I have always used TN panels and with this being my first MVA panel I all I can say is WOW what a difference. It has its share of little problems like ghost mouse trials when moving my mouse cursor over red part of my taskbar and I wish the response rate could a bit lower but so far I played tomb raider and it looked allot better than my last monitor and the response rate did not impact my game play what so ever nor did I see any ghosting. I was thinking I would need a monitor calibrator like the X-Rite ColorMunki but I am so impress with my current setting that I think they are spot on or close to it. I highly recommend this monitor but please note that it is not prefect and has a few minor problems but the picture quality far out do the problems in my opinion.

great! can you please do me a big favour and take a video of your mouse ghosting on the taskbar and other various issues? I want to know what to look out for on the monitors I get.

also what setting is your monitor set too in terms of overdrive, premium I assume?

As soon as I get a chance I will post a video of the mouse ghosting. I have my overdrive set to premium. I hope you like your as much as I like mine.

I have the 27" version of this display. How are you guys dealing with the black levels? I see quite a few people talk highly of it in that regard but its washing out so much of the detail for me. Well lit scenes look quite nice but shadows and dark scenes tend to be solid black. The only way for it to not be that way is to set it to the Photo, Game, or Movie preset and those look quite bad in color.

Just wanted to post a video of the ghosting.. I think I'm going to return it, even on premium it's just too horrible compared to my old LCD. The colors are great (at least with my untrained eyes), it's just I can't stand the effect I've grown to not have to deal with.

Edit:

Here is my old monitor, which a much less ghosting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jT8mM4sCMEQ

AMA on premium tends to overshoot certain colors. try lowering it and see if it gets better.

Yep, tried High and off, only got worse. Premium makes gaming a little tolerable but I'm beginning to think my display is faulty, however I don't want to ship one back for a replacement and it be just the same. It's hard to say though as all these displays are no where near me.. Do those videos look abnormal ghosting though? I think I might just pay the restocking fee if I have to and get the vg248qe. Color is good and all but I'd appreciate fluidity more anyway.

your video looks like typical VA panel behavior. i'm afraid replacing it won't do any good, that's just how VA is, but IPS isn't much better. if you want no ghosting you'll have to go for gaming TN panel.

Yep, I just returned it, and am getting the Asus VG248QE. Going from a 5 year old LCD panel I guess I just figured I coudl get a bit more colors but apparently tech really hasn't advanced much since then in the flat panel department (apart from those fabled OLEDs from Sony). I actually got motion sickness a bit after trying to play games on that VA panel. I can't wait for this new monitor.

Here is a review I found

Try to adjust gamma level in OSD - it seems that gamma is quite different from piece to piece and often quite far from standard 2.2.
You can try this calibration page to find proper gamma settings:

Yes, that is why I returned my GW2450HM too. I am curious whether Benq improved it in GW2460 or BL2410...

If you are really hardcore gamer, you may find that Asus VG248QE that you bought useful - 144 Hz is nice (if you are able to set such refresh rate and have proper dual-link / displayport cable and powerful GPU). However I would recommend some e-IPS monitor for general usage - I have no ghosting issues on my HP 23xi (which I bought after returning this Benq) and colors are nicer and more vibrant than on Benq. There are also some nice gaming e-IPS monitors from Eizo available with very low response time and low input lag...

BenQ GW2460HM review:
http://www.extrahardware.com/benq-gw...choice-eur-200

hmm doesnt look too promising? I only did a quick look thru it and no mention of the issues that plague many people here - various types of coloured ghosting? I judge a review of these VA monitors by the mention or otherwise of that issue I think? Shows no real experience in practice?

The 2460 review posted above makes it sound like a pretty lousy monitor. Instead of improvements, it may actually be worse than the 2450 ... or at least they didn't fix any of the issues with the 2450. The 2460 also has a somewhat heavy coating + silver glow at angles, so I see no reason for anyone to ever consider it.

It's a shame where VA is going ... each generation they seem to be focusing on making VA cheaper, not better. S-PVA from 5+ years ago looks quite nice in my opinion (albeit with some faults), but they have moved sort of sideways from a tech perspective with AMVA... better contrast/blacks, but basically worse in everything else. Add on a heavy AG coating, silver glow, limited stand adjustments, bad angles, and so-so response times, I see no reason to ever choose something like this over a cheapo IPS.

Hi,

I have bought a Benq GW2250M(non HDMI version) and I have a problem with it.
The problem consists in a bad image quality when playing games and watching movies. I took a picture with a Nokia E5 - the quality of the picture is not that good but you can see the problem - bad colors on textures in dark areas - somehow green instead of normal colors. When playing bright games it's OK , only in dark spaces the problem apears.
The monitor have already been in service but the problem persists.
What is to be done? Can this Benq monitor be that bad?
I'm from Romania so my english is'nt so good.

MirC84./ This is a common problem if u read the previous posts

take a look back at page 12 #237 - Kikou

he/she mentions a tool to adjust a hidden setting for shadows colour casts

http://www.entechtaiwan.com/lib/softmccs.shtm

dont know if your particular model has this hdden setting but my 24" version does and that did the trick

if it doesnt then nothing you can do. By the way I use it thru an inbuilt Intel graphics gpu and the driver for that also showed the settings to adjust colour casts in the dark tones

Hi,
I used that software but it didn't resolved the problem. Thank's anyway.
I found what caused this problem, it was the AMD drivers 12.xx and 13.xx.
I have an AMD HD6850 and after I installed the drivers from the CD that came with the graphics board (it was 11.xx I think) the problem disappeared, could be a bug, I don't know but now it's okay.
Before this monitor I had an old flat 17" LG CRT and didn't had this problem.
Weird thing.

wel l my Benq GW2450 is still working a year on. It seems to have got a bit better since when I got it. I use mine only for tv/video and it does a very good job, the colours are vibrant. I dont experience any flickering. Even the sound after adjusting with the pc equaliser is ok for uncritical tv. Was very easy to set up for video/tv to get a lovely balanced picture, unlike my old very expensive Toshibatv that never really liked working thru a computer. All in all the best £132 I spent when I could have spent more for less. Any one else with their ongoing stories?

just one final comment on the built in loudpeakers - the general view i think is that they are arnt very good. Well I dont agree. Certainly at first use they are poor - they need quite a bit of time to loosen up, then they sound quite respectable - in line with many you find on good small tvs. This is a quite common experience with even expensive hifi loudspakers - they need to be run in a few hrs. Trouble is i think most people who just use the speakers for infrequent multi media will never hear then after the are run as as they dismiss them too quick - I have been using the monitor & speakers now for the last year as my tv screen certainly good enough for speech driven tv programmes.

I remember reading that these were going to come out with flicker free technology. Is there anyway to verify youre getting one of the newer ones? Or is it just pulling the trigger and hoping for the best?

There's no real reason to get a 2x50 model now that the 2760 has come out. The 2760HS is guaranteed to be flicker-free. The later 2760HMs are flicker free too, but the first manufactured batch uses PWM. I don't know about the 24'' version.

Consider the EW2740L too, as it uses the same panel the 2760 does. There's a 24'' version as well. All new BenQ models are guaranteed to be flicker-free, they're really pushing hard on phasing out PWM.

I seem to be having a hard time finding the 2760HS for sale in the us. Since this is a gift this is time sensitive :p.

The ASUS VX279Q is looking really good as an alternative though.

hello guys, first sorry for my bad english
i have bought the gw2460hm. it is the new one with a flickerfree panel and 3000:1 contrast. I am searching for good settings for gaming and reading, because the settings on the monitor are awful. i tried some settings from the 2450, they are better :) but if s.o has the 2460 and calibrated it pls let me know your settings. For example in witcher in the night the screen is very very black. only with the pre setting "sRGB" i can see environment good...
