Even both of those points is too much for me. One or the other, I'm good with. But both? Sorry, I'm not going to pay for another ticking time bomb every 1-2 months. Over the course of the warranty I would have paid more than just getting a $700 monitor.

I haven't returned too much in the way of PC related gear. Two EVGA video cards, one Antec power supply and one PC Power and Cooling power supply. One was repaired (the PC power and Cooling PS), two were "white box" (the Antec PS and one of the EVGA cards). I have no idea if they were refurbished or not - they looked very clean and performed fine. One was new only because I somehow got the VP of Sales for EVGA on the line (Joe Darwin) and had a heated conversation with him about my failed five month old video card they replaced with one that looked worse and performed horribly. He authorized a new card, but during our conversation he said that regardless of the tech product, its almost impossible not to get a refurbished replacement.

In the replacements I've gotten:

EVGA: Refurbs.
Planar: Refurbs, sometimes new.
Apple: Refurbs, sometimes new.
Seasonic: Refurbs.

That's one of the reasons I want to move from this Planar, I've had it since February I think and I'm on number three. The first had this gradually worsening backlight bleed. The second had a bad power board. I'd send this one in to if they'd take it, it looks worse than the others and has this slight tint on the right side. I'm sure it's within spec though.

can these monitors do a multiple of 23.976 such as 72hz? as from reviews I Have read looks like might be good monitor for movies.

It's weird that these are getting such positive reviews. Almost all the feedback in this thread has been overwhelmingly negative.

The only negative i see on this Monitors is the viewing angle but still better then TN panels and IPS-Glow. ;)

Seems like Medion your mistake was to buy direct from BenQ? Whats the general line regarding warranty collection from normal retailers where you are? Not only can B rated makers like BenQ be a real trouble but also mainstram makes like Toshiba. I got my first lcd TV from their online shop and they didnt want to know when it went wrong outside 1 year warranty, inspite of the fact that in the UK we are covered by up to 6 years warranty under the Sales of Good Act - TV should last longer than 1 year. Never again I buy anything Toshiba. My BenQ GW2450HM now done approx 240 hrs without showing any problems. Hope it stays that way. They seem to be selling well in the UK and seem to be going up in price.

So I bought GW2750HM but with premium overdrive (AMA) I get serious(the same length as the mouse pointer itself) black trails even when moving a mouse quickly. Is that normal? I will be able to take a photo tomorrow of black trails happening in PixPerAn - the car has a shadow behind it with default settings with premium AMA, with high setting it is far less pronounced yet still visible and with AMA off there is no shadow, only severe ghosting... Is such a thing normal because in tft central review they did not have any of it. Even in Skyrim I see suns black twin even while moving slowly :(
Again it is mainly premium AMA problem but yet still, no mention of that in any source. Thank you once again members of [H]ard|Forum.

Edit: and that trail is happening only with "very" different collors, deep blue sky + sun, white mouse pointer + deep red (when going going through reddish color there is no black trail) and so much more different combinations.

Curious - did anyone that bought one of the monitors in this thread also consider the $300 Catleap Q270 S-IPS 2560x1440p monitors on ebay -- and if so what made you choose this one? Trying to decide on one.

Retailers do not honor the warranty here, the OEM does. I was subject to the retailer return policy (30 days). After that, I fall under the warranty. That's why I had to deal with BenQ (though I would have to deal with them either way).

What you're seeing is RTC overshoot. From what everyone is saying here, the AMA settings on this monitor are wildly inconsistent. For about 40-45 days mine was perfect. Then, it went to shit. Luckily for you, yours is shit to begin with. I'm starting to wonder if BenQ sent cherry-picked monitors to reviewers.

Some people wanted 27" (larger screen) but 1080p (lower GPU overhead, better for 1080p native media). For now, that means TN or VA, and this monitor seemed to be a winner for those who wanted to get away from TN. With LG's upcoming IPS7-series, we may have a chance at an IPS monitor within our desired specs.

Could RTC overshoot be the case for warranty or should I just get my money back (I have 14 days to do just that because I live in European Union)? Thank you for your help Medion, my old T220 didnt have the best response rate but it was sure better than this black shadow ( it is just like in this example http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/advancedcontent.htm#problems with overdrive (and even they are using Benq as an example...)).

so is the general opinion that there may be some thing wrong with the GW2750 but the GW2450 are ok? Even in the UK BenQ only require you pay for the postage back to them - not for any any return postage.

Return it. Seems that these monitors are a lottery with VERY few winners. I also upgraded from the T220 and I was satisfied with its response time on the faster setting. On fastest, it has some RTC overshoot.

For the first 15 pages or so it seemed that the 2450s were horrible and the 2750s were mixed. Seems to be about the same for both now, with few good stories on either. The only people defending them at this point are people that don't own them.

well I must be one of the few here still happy - I use my GW2450HM as a tv screen so am positioned about 5 feet or so away. I dont see any significant gamma shift from that distance. I dont see any banding - I dont know whether thats because I am using vga rather than digital. I did get the green hue but that was easy to remove by setting RGB green to 94 and black depth green to 46. Some people here have declared them to have too cold a colour. I cant for the love of me guess how that conclusion was come to. I just hope that mine keeps working the way it is. I've had mine now about 10 days and used more than it should be. May be they are better tv screens than pc screens.

I absolutely loved mine for about 40-45 days, and then the AMA feature flat out died. Monitor's picture is still gorgeous, just not in motion.

just wondering Medion - did u try the reset to manufacturers default setup and powering down and up and then reconfiguring ? My Toshiba lcd tv used to get confused after a time. I dont thing the software in these things is 100%

I did it once and it worked briefly. It has since stopped working entirely.

I read some where that changing the default frequency upset the overdrive capability and therefore pixel responsiveness - so dont ask me lol. The comments were part of explaining technology section on the TFT Central website.

"One other thing to note for Overdrive (RTC) enabled monitors is that running a TFT outside of it's recommended refresh rate (i.e. not at 60Hz) can lead to a deterioration in the performance of this technology and the panel responsiveness is sometimes adversely effected! Read the details here for more information.

most monitors that can be "overclocked" do so without loosing RTC
on previous generation BenQ I was able to overclock monitor up to 77Hz
71.928Hz was ok too and movies played back perfectly

because input lag remained low on those new model I strongly believe those monitors are overclockable too :)

someone should check that because it's kinda important. And 77Hz is much better for games too :D

If you need more Hz for whatever reason then simply wait for the 120Hz VA Monitors they should be out the end of this year.

BenQ called me today. The same one-man operation (rude jackass) that I spoke to the last few times. He basically just blasted me for daring to issue a chargeback. He then demanded the monitor back. I told him I would gladly send it back because, unlike the company he worked for, I honor my end of a bargain. He then said that I would have to "call Sid." Wow, really? So, I asked for Sid's number. He then said, "Just call Sid." I then replied, "Ok, numnuts, how do I do that without his number?" So he gave it up.

I left Sid a voicemail and a few hours later he got back to me. He said we'd have to talk after I get off work because I didn't have the serial number handy. I called when I got home and left another voicemail, but he has yet to get back to me. I'm sure they're closed by now. When we did talk, I made it clear that they get their monitor back only after they pre-pay fr the shipping. He agreed.

So for me, it was between the Samsung S27B550v or the LG IPS277l. The LG comes out sometime near the end of this month with an unannounced price. The Samsung is $419 on sale for $329 at Newegg/BB. I've gone through two of the Samsungs and their only issue was the defective DAC (that seems to affect the entire 550/750 lineup). If during the 30-day return window, the LG comes out and impresses me, I will use the defective DAC as a reason for returning it. If the DAC actually works and/or the LG doesn't impress, I'll keep the Samsung.

Prior to my recent monitor roulette, I purchased a Samsung 940B (2005, TN), and a Samsung T220 (2008, TN). I've always been happy with them and only ditched the 550v due to the faulty DAC. I had this brilliant idea to get the 350 instead, which was the same monitor without the speakers/DAC for $100 less. It ended up having a cheaper build quality and horrid backlight bleed, in addition to a defective panel. So, I'll pay the little extra for the 550. I do wish that there was a 27" 1080p IPS panel for under $500, but looks like the IPS7 will be the first whenever it ships. I just don't want to go a month without a monitor.

The only danger with getting the Samsung 550 now is if LG delays their 27"er a couple of months. Or even a couple of weeks. Then it'd be too late for a return on the Samsung.

Is BenQ going to replace it now, or due to the chargeback you simply mail back, and forget about it? Not sure how chargebacks even work.

And have you considered the 27" Samsung 650 (VA) instead? I wouldn't say it has stellar reviews, but it should be at least decent. If it was me, I'd probably recommend getting by with whatever backup monitor you have handy, and wait it out for the LG IPS (assuming it's not the heavily AG coated variety).

I know that I'll be happy with the 550v. No matter what kind of panel I get (TN, VA, IPS), there will be a few things that irk me. If I keep the 550v, I'll miss the 8-bit color and the viewing angles of VA/IPS. If I get the IPS, I'll hate the black levels, minor ghosting, and overall contrast. Whatever I end up with is a 2-4 year stopgap until OLED becomes affordable. While my budget now is $400 or less, when OLED becomes a solid gaming solution my budget will be in the $1,000-$1,500 range. I've already spent near that on a 27" ACD, so I don't mind doing it again for quality.

Is BenQ going to replace it now, or due to the chargeback you simply mail back, and forget about it? Not sure how chargebacks even work.

If the chargeback goes through, I have no legal obligations. I can keep or sell the BenQ. However, I feel morally obligated to give them back their monitor, should they pay the shipping. I will do that. Basically, the chargeback right now is in my favor, but BenQ can dispute it if they have SOLID evidence that I was wrong (they don't). What they want right now is to take the monitor, give me a refund, and avoid the CB. A CB has stiff penalties in addition to giving me back my money, so they want to avoid that.

I considered it but it is lacking in a few areas. While black levels are very dark, it has a tendency to crush more than many VA panels. Also, the overdrive on it is woefully inadequate for gaming (unlike modern IPS, TN, or the BenQ in this thread). Overdone blacks and ghosting don't make for the type of gaming monitor I would use.

The ideal monitor for me at this point would have been a working GW2750HM. However, due to their suspect warranty service and the overall attitude of the one employee that I keep dealing with, not only do I want to avoid the monitor, but I'll be avoiding BenQ for all products for the foreseeable future.

How did you issue a chargeback with VISA or Bank i didn't know that this even works.

I've never quite had to do it, but I've inquired with my credit union about them before. Basically you file a claim with your bank for the dollar figure of the transaction and the merchant has 90 days (I think?) to prove your claim invalid.

So now we have what? One person in the thread who's kept theirs?

@Medion
strange you have so much issues. I live less civilized country : Poland and all I had to do to have my BenQ exchanged was to call to support and tell them s/n, issue and my address. Next day I gave monitor to someone from shipping company and around week-two later I had new monitor. Best was that I didn't had to gave away power adaptor and cables in first monitor so I ended up with two power adaptors and two sets of cables :D Ang generally first monitor was fine, I RMA it because Iit had "too low gamma" :D Second monitor was the same so it wasn't issue but design :)

@laukinisvilkas
strong overshot on premium is kinda normal. AMA high look normal. If photo were taken few ms later then second car would almost disappear so you basically have to make a lot of those photos and choose best.

XoR, seems like the USA has very bad consumer protection laws and retailers give very poor after sales service. Seems like the only thing consumers do there is to issue chargeback? You would have thought that would have created better customer service - seems like not? How on earth things are that way boggles my mind. One thing we can thank the EU for is that things are much better here? I hope BenQ main office hears about Medions story - I suspect they would be shocked ( well I hope so ). Seems like BenQ USA is a crap subsidiary company?

I've returned tons of stuff over the years to both online and brick-and-mortar stores (not necessarily tech related) and have dealt with innumerable customer service reps over the phone. I've never had a situation I couldn't resolve to my satisfaction (and I've never initiated a credit card charge-back). I've worked in customer service and know what its like, so I'm always very respectful and patient (but not a pushover). Always follow the "you get more flies with honey than vinegar" approach and its served me well. This is not a judgement on anyone's experience with trying to return a defective item - horror stories can occur. I'm just saying things are fine in the US as far as customer service and consumer protection goes. There are probably more options available here than most places.

It's somewhere in the middle. Europe's laws are a bit too much in one direction. By forcing the retailer to be responsible for warranty service, you reduce the burden on the company that manufactured it. In the US, most retailers offer a 30-day return period. Thirty days is more than enough to decide if you want to keep the product. If it becomes defective outside of the 30-day return window then you have to use the manufacturer's warranty, which in the case of this monitor is 3-years.

The problem is that BenQ apparently doesn't want to offer any level of customer service. A few days ago I was again directed to "call Sid." I've left him 4 or 5 voicemails over the past few days. This afternoon will be the last time that I call. I should not be the one bending over backwards here, so I won't any longer.
