Battlefield: Hardline

Wow. I just looked up pricing in Canada on Origin. Standard edition is $70. Digital Deluxe is $80. That extra $10 gets you 10 Gold Battlepacks, a Suppression pack and a Precision pack (whatever the hell those are).

Or you could save your money and wait to see if it's any good.

The point is though if you are going to buy it day one, then preorder it the day before launch on Origin. It gives you a longer return window. Buying it at launch gets you less time to try the game.

Beta begins next Tuesday Feb 3 and runs until Feb 8.

Curious to see how bad they neutered the attack heli, it was hella fun in the June beta.

thanks for the heads up, i had a crap load of fun during the last beta. there were some surprisingly teamwork-oriented moments involving ziplines. i saw a ton of teamwork overall which i wasn't expecting.

Yep. Running around in the parking garages and stealing cash out of the other team's armored truck in BloodMoney mode was consistently more fun than the average CQ64 round spent in BF4. I alternated back and forth between both games just to see how my mood changed with in each game. People that are still butthurt about "BF4 launch issues" and "This should have been a BF4 maud" can remain butthurt in the corner. Anyone else with an open mind may just find a game here that will surprise them in terms of fun factor.

In fairness, I remember going into the June beta full of much of the same piss and cynicism that "Hardline is going to be lame", only to end up getting hooked.

Its just not battlefield. Even the bad company games had some battlefield in them.

This is really looking like something else though, and honestly its a lot better than it looked before. Still reserving my rights to cynicism (and piss?)

When I tried beta I said I was not going to give this game a chance, but after watching the most recent video I may actually buy this thing. I'm still holding out for Rainbow Six Siege (I think it's going to me the most fun in terms of a competitive game mode) but the VIP and Hostage modes look fun in Hardline. I used to love me some CS back in the day but it got stale after a decade of playing.

Not sure why people are excited all of a sudden, when before all of the complaints were that it looked just like BF3/BF4...and it still does...

Grappling hooks and ztplines. A la bf2 spec ops. I am just hoping. Not expecting.

Ok. I will give them credit. They have put in a lot of work to make this truly different than just battlefield with cops and robbers. Some of the new game modes do look interesting. This might be a good distraction for a few months. Beyond that though, I doubt the community will hold up for very long and it will die out quickly.

I wouldn't be so sure. I'd lay money the Hardline 'community' lasts longer than Titanflop or Call of Daycare. I realize that's not saying much.

People will play Hardline and BF4 until Battlefront, end of story.

I am amazed at the high level of confidence I see in this thread at least so far as it pertains to early purchases and preorders coming off the months' long debacle that was BF4 when it launched.

Where is this confidence coming from?

March 17th is a while away March 17th.....
Meanwhile Bloodborne will be out the week after along with Pillars of Eternity no way am I going to SPAZ on on this game =)
I still haven't even put in a Half hour in Dragon Age...

Evolve is right around the corner and Battlefield 5 will hopefully be worth the wait.

You do understand that this game capitalizes on the improvements made to BF4 since launch, yes? In other words it's not starting from zero. Even the improvements made during the BF4 CTE like high frequency tickrate are confirmed by BF4 developers as 1:1 in Hardline. And right now BF4 is running pretty damn smoothly because the Dice LA team have run a fantastic CTE and fixed the game.

And we're talking about a free beta on Tuesday, not pre-order drama. I realize that getting excited for a game breaks the hivemind negativity bullshit and victim complexes that some people around here enjoy getting caught up in, but all-or-nothing thinking is a little foolish.

Good.

Yes, it is down to an art form for some.

Exactly the question I had a few posts above yours. I don't see anything in the new footage that is making me feel any different about this game than when it was first announced / first gameplay footage revealed.

So is this replacing our bi-annual Battlefield release, or is there an actual Battlefield 5 in the works?

It was supposed to be a Battlefield game every 2 years, and a Medal of Honor game in between also on a 2 year rotation. Last MOH game flopped so bad they nixed this game.

This game was to take the place of the MOH series this round, it got delayed. Battlefield 5 is coming in late 2016 since Star Wars Battlefront remake by DICE is scheduled to come out on the 2 year mark later this year.

so the system specs are going to be close to BF4?...the beta should be interesting...pretty drastic change of direction for this franchise...from war to cops and robbers

Considering it is built on Frostbite 3, the same as BF4, I would suspect the system requirements will be identical. There will be quite a few new textures and graphics that are different from BF4, but I can't imagine any of it to be more graphically intense.

I seriously hope they have implemented all the patchwork that has been implemented into BF4 the past year, e.g. Netcode and various other glaring bugs.

I dunno, looks kinda fun to me. I'm honestly happy to get back to the paired down vehicle aspects ala BC1 and 2.

And some of the hectic close range scrambling reminds me a bit of early halo multiplayer.

Same here, hopefully it delivers

We'll see what happens with this beta tomorrow, if there were any meaningful changes. Just going off of last year there really isn't anything that changed about the game coming from BF4. Instead of wide-open maps they should have gone with something like the train scenarios from UT2004.

So I've watched A TON of videos today just to get a sense of the game. Looks interesting, but we'll see.

The 1 thing i know is going to get old is the constant calling out of getting a kill.... "GOT THAT ONE" -_-

A cynical person might view this as a glorified expansion pack commanding full price.

Why would that person be wrong?

All new single player campaign, completely revised and rebalanced multiplayer with new modes... said cynical person would seem to expect too much.

I'm not getting Hardline, but I think complaints about it not being new or different enough are pretty baseless. Just because it shares code with BF4 doesn't mean it's the same as BF4.

BF4 looked stunning...all the videos I've seen of Hardline don't look anywhere close to it graphics wise...doesn't look bad but doesn't really look like a BF4 Frostbite 3 successor either

No preload option in my origin launcher after refreshing the store page... in a BF4 match at the moment but will try relaunching origin afterwards. Thanks for the heads-up!

Every twelve year old on reddit has already squawked this. "It should've been a BF4 mod, rawwwwwk!" so you'd do well to try to come up with something a little less regurgitated if you're trying to find something to criticize. Should Fallout New Vegas have "just been a Fallout 3 mod/expansion" ? There were those people that insisted FNV "should've been a DLC" , because they only see their little world and don't understand these companies are running a business.

As for it "commanding" full price, the flaw in that assertion is you dont have to buy the game, problem solved on your end. Free will is a beautiful thing.

I like the more teamwork oriented game modes, definitely going to give this a shot. Love rush in the BF series; don't really like the random ring-around-the-rosie of conquest maps.

It's still the same game engine so the underlying game mechanics will be very similar to BF4. Need for Speed: Rivals and Dragon Age Inquisition also use the same Frostbite 3 game engine as BF4, but are developed by Ghost Games and Bioware respectively. All those games have similar system requirements, and those developers likely do their own graphics, textures, and game models just like Visceral did with Hardline. BF4 happens to be the most stressful of them due to 64player multiplayer and having to update all that crap going on at the same time. So needless to say, if your rig can handle BF4, then barring any sort of horrible coding it should handle Hardline just fine.
