Battlefield 3 - Official Thread

either the console version will require many people walking for so long in a big map just to see a single enemy or in the pc version, you spawn and walk two feet and you have reache dthe enemies base camp.

either way not good unless they make two complete different games

Does nobody remember bf2 maps typically having 3 different versions...64, 32, 16? The only question is whether they think consolers would bitch if they don't have access to 64 person maps. My guess is, other than the feeling that they are getting less, the majority of consolers would prefer the smaller space CoD style versions anyways.

Oh, and with this news, I'm all hyped up for this game now. Damn them!

Day One mother bitches!

You do realize that while BF3 will be cross platform , BF2 was not. This will play into how BF3 will end up in many area's including map sizes.

Your 32 player maps in BF2 were DESIGNED to handle up to 64 players. How exactly will maps designed to work with 24 players hold up to 64 players?

Your conclusions are based in dream land.

First, BF2 was designed with scalable maps.

Second, even in a 64 player sized map, with only 24 players, does not feel the way you claim. See, I stated LESS that 32 players, not 32 players.

No kidding BF2 was designed with scalable maps , but BC2 sure the fuck wasn't. And yes they do feel that way. Again BF3 is a cross platform title , BF2 was not.

But hey keep convincing yourself otherwise.

But this is not BC series, it's a proper BF2 sequel... Why do you even bitch when there's not much to go on.
It's really tiresome when people start speculating and then convince themselves that their speculation is a fact before anything is official from the source itself.

Because its DICE and they do whatever the fuck they want to do? Is it really that big of a deal to be cynical when the track record speaks for its-self?

Its just as tiresome to have people completely sure they will do everything right by the PC fans when the majority of the time developers on cross platform titles don't. They've been dead silent for years about BF3 .. I think some speculation is warranted.

I'm certainly not saying anything like "This will be a bad game" and "Oh great another BC2" , I'm just worried DICE won't come through on this.

Being cynical and having worries is ok, but you seem almost convinced that this will be BC on steroids because BF3 will also be on consoles this time around but the truth is at this point we have nothing to go on. Speculation is good, assuming what DICE will do isn't, it's just angry banter for no particular reason on your part.

Battlefield 3 is the true successor to Battlefield 2. Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign – all straight out of the box. As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound? All this built with our powerful new game engine Frostbite 2, which you'll hear and see a lot of in the months leading up to launch. For the full reveal on Battlefield 3, stay tuned for links to our cover stories hitting the gaming press throughout February, starting with Game Informer right now.

Now, I'm getting worried that it will be consolized on PC... Single player? wtf do I need a SP in BF3 for? I hope it won't mean less MP maps.

Battlefield 3’s cutting edge animation

lol, I hope it means that I will not have to jump over every curb like I did in BF2.

That teaser was stunning. Can't wait to see more! This is going to be one hell of a game.

It's a nice piece of marketing theater but no in-game stuffs. Oh well... I be greedy. :D

Must... set... expectations... low... can't fight...the... excitebikement!

Return of jets? Ah yeah....

But, it'll suck...thats what I'm going to expected. Buggy and crap game-play. That way, it its like BC2, I won't miss out. lol

But I in fact state that I'm not trying to point to that in my post you quoted.

Bottom line speculation leads to assumption the majority of the time. I hope DICE will do the right thing , I personally loved BC2 but I didn't love the consolitis it brought along with it.

BF2 is probably my favorite online shooter of all time because of sheer amount of longevity its had.

Regardless of my personal speculation on the matter there is a really high chance I'll buy it so my worries will likely be unnecessary.

I would've jizzed my pants here at the office if in that trailer they incorporated the Battlefield signature jingle that we all became familiar with over the years. Gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it. ...You know the one that comes on after she says initiating satellite scan in the intro for BF2 :-D

The beat was still there in the static. :p

I think they dressed up the coders in battle gear and taped it. No cgi, and no computer graphics at all. :D

If you look at the trailer at about :21 seconds in on the left hand side you can see a soldier go down holding his chest.

But anyways why don't they just show some in game game-play and stop all this ridiculous speculation.(gameplay we can actually see)

Well, we'll be getting some more information in March, so you'll probably have to wait another month for gameplay footage.

Some juicy info there. I love the trademark jingle from the BF series as well.

Dun dun nun nun nuh nun nun
Zzzzzzssscchhhhwwwwwooooownn
Dun Nun Na Nun Nun

Fuck, jets again?!

Gotta admit I didnt buy BF2 until after 1.50 had launched, bought it just to play with friends.
I don't dislike having aircraft in the game, but it felt more like a die-randomly-every-onceinawhile mechanic than an actual enemy + one guy would always snatch it for a whole match and always win the scoreboard.

Yes I love the hapless sheep that run over to and line-up at the airfield or helipad waiting for their vehicle to respawn. Easy pickins for the 6 kill bombing run or strafe run. They will always run back like lemmings and line-up again for their death...rinse repeat for top score. :D

+1 to this. Also...sniping never was so funny. You've got bored people waiting for a plane to spawn (usually 3-4 of them), and you hit one, and the rest whip around like "OMG, where's the sniper!?".

Fun stuff.

Blasphemy!! I only heard the commanders voice ripping in and out

It's there, it's just heavily gayed-up with the cliched-sounding crackly thunderous stuff. I like how they've always used that tune for their games and adapted it, but if that's what they're going with they've slipped up for the first time. Sounds clumsy. I expect it's just for this teaser though, to set the mood.

According to a product listing for Battlefield 3 at Swedish retailer Webhallen, Battlefield 3 will thrust players into the boots of a US Marine, who will fight across the globe in cities like Paris, Tehran, and New York.

Cool! I hope it's true.

Cannot wait, definitely will need a new video card to go with this.
On my list of games for this year.

all the teaser trailer told me was that we now get a cool guitar riff effect every time the engine lags

+1 for needing new pants. I cannot wait for this to come out. This brings back so many memories of BF2. I also agree that they should have snuck the theme song into the teaser. Then again that might have been too much. :D

I'm going to hold off buying a video card until fall in order to power this beast in eyefinity.
