I was tooling around and was on Amazon and saw a blurb for this and so far they have it down for Dec. 31. This far out I'm sure that's not set in stone but I will say it will be mystifying to me if this game misses the holidays like that.
Battlefield 3 Limited edition copy will be announced at GDC 2011 which will include the popular Battlefield 2 map, Strike at Karkand.
I don't know how true this is but if we don't get the Limited version we won't be able to play Karkand?

the ads say autumn , i don't think it would bother me too much if it was delayed into jan or feb either though, there are certainly some great games coming out during nov/dec that will hold my interest.
especially. if it's to get their server browser to work properly.. but it wouldn't be a battlefield game if it didn't.
There hasn't been a BAD Battlefield game yet. The worst out of the bunch for me was 2142, but im just not into the whole sci-fi thing. As long as they don't try and change things too much, it will continue to be a good series.
Awesome!Features:
• Frostbite 2 – Battlefield 3 introduces Frostbite 2, the incredible technology that takes animation, destruction, lighting, scale and audio to new heights. Built upon this powerful game engine, Battlefield 3 immerses players physically and emotionally to the world around them like never before.
• Feel the Battle — Feel the impact of bullets and explosions, drag your fallen comrades into safety, and mount your weapon on almost any part of the terrain. Battlefield 3’s cutting edge animation, spectacular visuals and real as hell battle gameplay attack your senses and make you feel the visceral warriors experience like no other FPS.
• Unparalleled Vehicle Warfare — The best online vehicle warfare experience gets even better with a fitting sonic boom as fighter jets headline impressive lineup of land, air and sea vehicles.
• Urban Combat — Take the fight to iconic and unexpected places in the USA, Middle East, and Europe including claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes as you fight your way through the war of tomorrow.
The "drag your wounded" mechanic they've announced interests me. Maybe this is something all classes can do, so an assault guy can drag a downed teammate to cover so a medic can revive him...or it will be a Medic-specific ability that's needed because reviving will require you to hold a button down for X seconds instead of instant resurrection...thus eliminating rambo-reviving.
Will there be destructible environments?

I can't support that, medic was my favorite class in BF2. I don't see myself standing over someone for 5 seconds, or even 3 just to revive someone. Rambo reviving was never a problem in BF2, if you managed to revive someone in clusterfuck situation and not get killed than the opposing team sucks, not the guy who goes in there to revive someone and gets away.I think requiring a medic to hold a button down for a moment to revive someone could work and help reduce rambo reviving. The defibrillator could be replaced with an adrenaline shot (like Far Cry 2, the animation could be prepping the syringe before injection) so that the revival time makes sense.
if i digitally download this, from EA or Amazon??
you know what? after all this excitement.. I realize that the requirements for the game have to be higher than bfbc2. If this is an updated frostbite engine... wouldnt it have more cpu work? and more GPU load?
or do you think it is more efficient. I just want similar performance to bfbc2
Probably both, but the Frostbite engine is notoriously hard on the CPU (sound mixing, physics). BC2 vanilla is hard on my system, so much so I had to take down the DX level to 9 for smoothness.
I fully expecting BF3 Frostbite 3 to be more optimised but it's going to be brutal on my system. 64 man servers could be a rubber-band lag fest - I really hope not. Even 32 man servers in BC2 lag noticeable more than 16 -24 man servers.
I can see an upgrade coming up! Probably i7 based.

Probably a mixture of both. I would definitely assume more CPU/GPU load to a certain degree. If you're running NVIDIA you'd have to assume PhysX will also increase GPU load and all of the other added features of Frostbite 2.0 would increase the CPU load by a margin.
I played a lot of BF2 BF2142 and BFBC2 so I kinda get that I'm excited for the game.
Let's just hope the GTX 580 will be enough to handle this beast.
Frostbite 1.5 never used PhysX (It uses Havok for Physics), so Frostbite 2.0 probably won't either.
Here are a few tweets related to hardware I snagged recently:

twitter.com/repi: "@SLBartley no you do not need to build a new machine"

Repi is one of the primary architects working on Frostbite. Take it for what it's worth.
