Sadly that will most likely be true. By the same people that claim that their posts on forums like this is what forced DICE to add it in the first place, despite the fact it was in the alpha and just not functioning yet.

That's awesome, then only people that are serious about the game will set up servers and actually take care of them and make them into something. Nothing is worse than 20,000 empty servers.


...of course, my POV may be skewed.. .my clan at one time had the #2 and #3 BF2 servers ranked by Game Tracker.
 
$95 for a 64 person server seems pretty damn reasonable to me...about $1.50 per slot, for a public server?
 
Being able to host a dedicated server on your own hardware seems even more reasonable. But DICE ain't havin' none of it.
 
How much is it just to colo a box? Just wondering, I honestly don't know.

But that $95 also buys you guaranteed hardware; no more having a community donation-a-thon because something in the box took a crap and it was a bad month for you (been there with many different server communities).
 
Our game server provider is saying we can run BF3 servers on our dedicated box we rent from them already.

Well of course not, they don't want anyone but the game server partners having access to the game files. Once the files hit the public, you will have crap like cheat servers going up padding everyone's stats just like whats happening in MW2
 
I will here-forth now assume that MW shall mean Mechwarrior, if anything to get the taste of wasted money off of my mind that was spent on such wasted binary space.
 
Oh the glorious days of Mechwarrior 2...was an amazing game back in its day...especially the 3DFX enhanced version with NetMech and Kali, lol. Can tell who the old school gamers are here :D
 
Oh man, I remember when I bought my first videocard. A Voodoo 3000. I went from playing Counter Strike beta 5.0 in software mode at 480*300 (think that was the lowest res) with a 15 frames per second, to playing in hardware mode at 1024*768 res with 50+ frames per second. Fuck me, I took the day off of work the next day just so I could play CS with silk smooth frame rate. I was in gaming nirvana and I didn't even pay attention to my girl friend at the time I was so ecstatic!

Basically, hold a key (Q IIRC) and move your mouse in a direction corresponding to an action, then click. Really quick and you never have to take your hands off of the keyboard/mouse to go to a numpad/keys
 
I always called it the Commo Rose. Com/Commo being short for communication. It is not uncommon to hear coms/com being used in everyday life; especially within the military and L.E. communities.

My point about Amazon was simply that they didn't fully charge you until it was shipped, much like this process. The hold is temporary and goes bye bye like 24 hours after you place the order.

This is why I use Paypal. No hassle or fuss over funds. I get charged as soon as I click pay.

RX3, I wouldn't expect both maps to be available for the Beta. I would expect just Metro to be there.

Are you serious? didn't they say that Caspian Border would be the beta map?

How can they have a beta without all the features like jets and vehicles?
 
I don't remember them ever saying Caspian Border would be the beta map. When I've done my testing, I've only seen Metro.

Ohh yeah what do you know? the map would not matter if all you work on is Origin. Loading up a different map to use for the beta i don't think would effect anything you do.
 
It does matter, because I'm constantly testing the newest code to make sure the bugs I'm writing up are fixed.

Do those bugs have anything to do with the actual map? Your telling me that you need to code and fix these bugs for every map in BF3?
