Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Finally getting around to playing this game. hard to find low ping server on west coast it seems, then takes forever to load into game, like 3 to 5 min. Once in the game all is good.

Is this normal? few populated servers and long load times before getting into servers game?

Last night I had:

1. 0 friends online or offline
2. no ping in server browser
3. disfunction voice via group chat

Gave up, played some more Tomb Raider Underworld. Grid 2 can't come soon enough. Also, BF4 can suck it.

Check out the wck (west coast Killers) servers. Be warned that a lot of high level players like them, if the only reason because a lot of other high level players play there.

Also the long initial load time is something that is a new development, I think it has something to do with their anti DDOS measures. If you didn't know, last week DICE's BF3 backend was getting maliciously DDOSed pretty hard.

WCK servers are great I play on them all the time. I'm not a 'high level' player though, in the sense skill level. Anyone that intends to play on their servers should keep in mind they have a pretty strict no-swearing rule. I break it and get kicked from time to time just being forgetful about it.
 
Anybody else hate the server messages that are constantly being spammed on the bottom of the screen?

JOHN JUST KNIFED FRANK OMFG BROOTAL!

JOHN JUST KILLED FRANK WITH AN RPG-7 AT LAUNCHER TAKE THAT SUCKA!!!!

BOB JUST BLEW ADAM SKY HIGH WITH C4!!

FRANK KILLED JOHN WITH A COLT .45 1911 WWII PISTOL!

(These are actual messages I have seen in multiple servers, they are not exaggerated)

I mean what the fuck? Do people actually like this? If you really are that interested in how one of the other 63 players in the game killed somebody, look in the top right left at the kill log. I really do not need to be informed of this. I already hide chat because it is filled with useless spam messages just from the server.

Yea I use to hate servers with yell messages just as you describe, but I guess I just grew use to it so much that I never notice that much anymore.
 
It is only amusing whenever the message pops up relating to someone getting a defib or repair tool kill. Other than that, I really don't notice it.
 
I know some will say knifing in general is worthless and should just use your gun as much as humanly possible for kills, but I find that knifing is not only satisfying, but you won't ever make a sound doing it, really. Plus, I find if you can get behind people and start knifing them does take some craftiness... or they enemy is just that stupid.

This game has the best implementation of knifing. The way you grab people and it forces them to witness you killing them in 1st person is reason enough.

Mine usually breaks after the 1st. I can rarely rarely get the second one. The knife will come out and no button I press will result in the knife doing anything. I'll just keep mashing my mouse button or my knife button until the guy turns and shoots me :(
 
First pre-season match for CEVO has been set up. Looks like we're playing on the 6th.

Wonder who our opponents are.. :)

lol, we didn't have our team filled out yet when we got scheduled. And our opponent is still one player strong on their roster. :p

Never understood servers with rules like that...

"No cursing" -- as I throw a grenade and anyone around me hears my character scream "Get the fuck down.... grenade!!!"

I mean... really which is worse? me typing in total silence a few F-bombs... or the game screaming out loud how they are receiving anal sex in a combat situation and sounds rather distraught.

At the end of the day a person can run their server however they like -- but that doesn't mean I can't call them out for their absolute failure in logic. :D
 
Haha. So true. But the in game swearing honestly sounds a bit contrived as opposed to natural. I'd prefer it not even be there.

And speaking of swearing, I was in a GRID 2 game the other night where this psycho couldn't say anything wo/ screaming profanities and your mom comments everytime someone hit him...unbelievable.

As someone who's experienced a number of these real life scenarios, I can honestly say that while profanity is hurled liberally throughout the Corps. (and military in general), the amount that it is used in Battlefield 3 makes it sound forced and very unnatural. I've never had a frag thrown at me but I wouldn't waste the extra split second dropping an F-bomb while warning everyone else about it and the RPGs ive had fired at me got an F-bomb because they were already up our asses by the time they were spotted, lol.
 
The swearing in the game is so stupid, and I love to cuss but it's dumb in BF3.
Last week I was playing with my speakers on which I rarely do and my GF was in the room.
At the same time one guy yells, "I'm gonna "blow" the shit out of him" and another guy yells, "I'm getting fucked up the ass over here".

It was one right after the other, we broke out laughing so hard it was hilarious, she asked me if the characters in BF3 are homosexuals.

Does anyone know of a server that has a mod that prevents people from switching to the winning team. I'm fed up with all the team stacking I've experienced lately.
 
I've really been enjoying bf3 in the last few days. I hadn't touched it for probably 10 months but lately it has been a lot of fun. I will say that jets and helicopters still seem overpowered. I mean, I can't remember the last time that one of my anti air missiles actually hit something. I've had better luck no scoping a rpg randomly and hitting an attack chopper as it flies over.

And stacking seems to be a problem. Not so much that it is intentional, but a lot of servers balance teams by switching the most recent person who joined. So you end up with a cycle where the good players on team 1 leave and are replaced by crappy players who are shunted on to team 1. Because they suck the rest of the good players on team 1 leave which leads to a completely useless team 1. I've been playing a lot of Wake Island and it seems like every other game ends with Russian having a single point that has no armor or air vehicles and the US just camps around it and kills everyone who spawns.

You can definitely take out choppers with Stinger/IGLA. You can reload and get a second shot off before flare/ECM comes up. You can't do shit about Jets though, the lock range isn't far enough

Jets require a team effort and sometimes luck. Even I can keep away from ground AA as a jet pilot and I SUCK at jets.
