Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

are they ever going to fix the can't bind mouse keys problem??

retail is supposed to allow it. I think they are just trying to piss as many people off and avoid excessive pre-orders and high sales with stuff like this locked in the beta.

Why would you lock out something like that for the beta... the "first impression".

I spawned into the jet, took off and flew straight up, until I jumped out and died in mid-air because I left the battle area. If that's what you call a cobra, I did it. :p.
I really need an empty server so I can learn how to fly in BF3. Key bindings will help tremendously.

No...you did not do a cobra maneuver with the jet :p Ha ha! so you mean there is a flight ceiling restriction?

because its would take longer to release a beta with more features.

beta's and demos are not just cut from a part of the final product.

most of the time they are made special with the same assets but everything like the menu system and other stuff like that is made from scratch for the beta/demo

If there is I didn't notice one. The jet just kept going up and up.
There's a ceiling somewhere, a video game will only let you do so much.

Link to PCGamer article. If the article is old sorry.

Dice warns of complete account bans if you joined a hacked server during BF3 Beta. Meaning that you will lose access to all your purchased games on that account. So what if you clicked Quick Match and got sent there? Seems kinda nasty don't you think?

And more importantly what if this happens after the game goes live? Click Quick Match and get on a hacked server where you level up extremely fast. Do you get your entire Origin account banned for one match?

I wouldn't worry about it too much if you QuickMatched onto one of these servers.

"anyone stumbling into these modded servers could have their Origin account suspended"

"can cause your account to become compromised, stats to be altered or other issues to arise which may lead to having your account to be banned by EA."

"So, if you enter a modded server, even accidentally, you risk being locked out"

Yeah, I went ahead and changed my Origin/Battlelog password after hearing about that, just in case.

But really, this worries me quite a bit.

Well companies do ban accounts. Ask these guys from GamersFirst.

yo guys i just hit 442000 assault score but the weapon G3A3 didnt unlock, meant to get it at 441000.
Any idea whats up? is it not included in beta?

i had the same issue with the SG553 with the engineering class, and out of curiosity, were you able to unlock the KH2002?

ITS SO ANNOYING that when u run out of bounds and come back in it doesn't always register

you could of hit a ceiling and not noticed it, some games when you reach the height limit it still looks like you are climbing but you really arnt any more even tho it looks like it.

unless you had another jet in the aire near you to give some reference or can still see the ground getting farther away.

i havnt had a chance to play caspian yet so i dont know how the viewdistance is up in the sky so im just giving an example of it being possible that you think you are climbing even tho you arnt but its purely speculation on my part.

I want to be able to join a server, and play around by myself, I suppose this isn't possible?

Depends on what you mean by play around...

You could always buy your own server and have all the server admin options etc. Obviously that requires you to pay money.

If you wanted to just say practice your helicopter piloting or something, people usually just joined an empty server in BC2 to do stuff like that.

I didnt get a chance to fly the jets but I was in the stationary AA guns (Which look badass btw) and it appears that once you hit the ceiling you just slow to almost a complete stop but don't fall back to the ground either. The flight characteristics though don't seem very good as the kinds of things I saw them doing, isn't possible in fixed wing flight...such as, having a plane fly directly at you but it's rotated about 45 degrees in another direction (not in a vectored thrust kind of way either).

Is there a manual or anything? I'm not sure what a lot of the unlocks 'do' (That is, until you unlock them and get a description) I'm really just looking for a description. Thanks!

The weapons & equipment tab on battlelog displays all of that information, including points until unlock, etc.

Some things are bit backwards from BC2 though, despite a lack of reason for it. For instance with Battlelog there should be more room and ability to display weapon stats (performance characteristics, not your usage stats). Yet I don't think weapon stats are available anywhere?

Yeah, they removed the weapon stats graphs and whatnots.

Anyone else routinely get killed from levitating self aware guns? That's been happening a lot lately. BF:BC2's BETA wasn't anywhere near this buggy, and I could actually play that without having to ignore massive artifacting.

If they can get these issues fixed it'd be an awesome game. I'm really enjoying it when it works.

This will happen sometimes when a person is revived. They're nothing more than a corpse ragdoll, with the gun randomly levitating nearby.

I get visual glitches as well, some animation issues as well. Conceptually overall I like the game, I already had it preordered so it didn't really change my mind or anything. But it obviously at this point isn't as polished as say BC2, but we are comparing a game that has gone through several post release patches vs. prerelease beta. I'm also pretty sure some problems will be resolved via better drivers as well and more quality post release servers.

I'll also throw in my thought that an out of game browser and management system is a great concept, to balance out the negatives. Hope more games consider this option in the future and even improve upon it.

Eh, not really what I was looking for. I can't click the perks. When I go to a weapon I can see what is available for it, I can't click any of them to find out what they do though. Thanks anyway.

It only shows the next unlock with detail. For what you've already unlocked I think it is only available in game when customizing.

Update on the Beta from DICE.

http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/bat...10/03/battlefield-3-open-beta-update-2.aspx##

Main thing to look at is that they say the code we are running is over a month old and not representative of the final game.
Unless they rewrote the game from scratch less than a month ago, it's always going to be based on code from over a month ago. So what he's saying is completely meaningless fluff to appease the community; he's saying nothing while technically saying a true statement.

Unfortunately, what we're seeing is pretty much final product.

What to expect on Oct 25th:

#1 - You will be butthurt to know that the 'beta' you're playing is very close to final.
#2 - Oct 25th release will be the beta + bug fixes.
#3 - A patch will come out shortly to fix the bugs not in the final - don't expect anything drastic.
#4 - Battlelog isn't going anywhere.

Some things to note:
- The BF community probably wouldn't be up in arms if this game was called BFBC3. Instead it's being called BF3 which should be a successor to BF2 - and that, sadly, it is not. A true successor would include things like larger squads (that work), a commander or some other implementation of that gameplay. You guys KNOW what's missing, and it won't be there on release day, quit hoping for it.

- EA is about making money, always have been, always will be. They have a board of directors, are publicly traded ect. If they do not improve their bottom line, they will lose money / shares will fall. EA is surely directing the direction of where this game is going - they have seen the COD franchise blow up, and they want a chunk of it. Not only that, their bottom line depends on this game, do you think the mindless higher-ups do not have a say in this? Unfortunately BF3 happens to be the sacrificial lamb that's getting gutted to fit the mold of a COD game play - to make more money. That is why BF3 is being placed in this direction, have no doubt in your mind, EA is directly at fault for this, not DICE. DICE is now owned by EA, that also means they are told what to do by EA, even if they do not like it. They cannot just get up and walk away from a project like this, they would all be fired and replaced. If you think about it, dc, bf1942, bf2, and bf2142, all developed by DICE - THEY HAD THE FEATURES us pc gamers want...and now they do not. DICE isn't forgetting their audience, they are being told to mold this game into another direction. You can see this COD style is being pushed just by reading between the lines - they beta's a rush map with no other modes - not even true to BF.

- EA/DICE has spent much time/money on battlelog - in fact it's pretty nice in my opinion. Where they dropped the ball on this was - no in-game menu, and no way to integrate battlelog directly into the game. Had they done this PLUS allowing users to access it via the web, they'd have a winner. In its current form, it's a piss-poor implementation. My main thought as to why this happened is because developing all of this inside of BF3 would have taken much more time and money - again - this is EA making a decision. So knowing all of this, battlelog isn't going anywhere. So to those of you complaining about it - sorry.

TL;DR - You're playing the final minus bug fixes / battlelog isn't going anywhere / screw EA.

I canceled my preorder today. It was the first and probably last time I'll ever preorder a game (unless I count "preordering" Dead Island twelve hours early after seeing some gameplay videos).

If I don't buy it, I've lost nothing.
If it winds up being good on release, I can still buy it.
If it winds up being bad, but then they patch it until it's good, I can buy it cheaper.
If it winds up being bad and can't be fixed, I've saved some money.

Guess you didnt read this?

"Just like normal procedure when releasing a game, the Open Beta has had long lead times due to testing, certification, and setting up. This means that the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game."
