Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Has anyone noticed how overpowered IRNV is? I unlocked it on the PKP last night and was using it for Terhan, and did quite well with it.

Well after a map change, I accidentally kept it on during Caspian. I assumed since it was a day map it would work like shit, but sure enough, it works just like it's night time. It takes all of the glare and terrain out of the day maps, and makes all of your enemies a bright red/orange. Added the foregrip + extended mags and I was taking out whole squads... I think I went 29-4 that match. Ridiculously overpowered, but it was sure helping my KDR :p

I run an SKS + IRNV + foregrip + supressor and I absolutely murder people.. My overall kd is somewhere around 2.25 and I have no trouble icing people regardless of terrain or light conditions. :D

I think there are too few flanking options in general for a lot of the rush scenarios... this is one reason that chokepoints even exist.

I'm getting seriously fed up with RPGs on Rush. If you're the defending team, once the MCOM gets armed everyone on attack just spams the fuck out of the MCOM with RPGs. It's really fucking stupid.

And I would agree with the IRNV being overpowered. Once people started getting it it seems like about 75% of people are using it now.

Problem is nobody wants to be one of the three that dies.

That's because the whole stats system have made people little bitches who are only trying to whore their K/D ratio. Totally defeats the purpose of the Battlefield series.

I accidentally posted this in general gaming so I am re-posting it here.

I am trying to play BF3 using two GTX 580 cards with surround gaming on three 1920x1200 monitors. I have the 285.62 Nvidia driver. When the game loads, my monitors go blank. Then they go to sleep, then they start alternating waking up with a blank screen and going back to sleep. After about a minute or two all my monitors come back on and I get a Directx error message. I will post a pic of it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics driver 3 times. I can run other games on all three monitors with no problem. Is anyone else having this issue, and if so, does anyone know a fix?

This is yet another reason to just never play Rush. Rush doesn't belong in Battlefield.

You should post in the Video Card section (driver issues) - you may get more help there - here it is pretty buried. You should know that the overlays are bugged in triple monitor configs at the moment, so even if you get it working you won't be able to see player health, tagging, etc. in multiplayer.

Thanks for the reply. I have yet to find anyone until now that has actually commented on how it plays on multiple monitors. That is some good info about the HUD. I like it when a game engine is capable of placing the hud info on the center screen so I can see all the info.

Nah, take out RPG from that map and that chokepoint will remain a camping chokepoint. Peope don't like to die and they know an ambush when they see it. The only way to get through choke points like that is for everybody to rush at once. Sure two or three of you might die but then you'll be able to overwhelm the campers. Problem is nobody wants to be one of the three that dies.

Did they tone-up the SKS a little since beta? I remember working to unlock it because I have a huge erection for the SKS, but it was a horrible mess and was worthless compared to the SVD. If they made it better I am probably going to bust out of my cottons.

True. Which is why it stinks that team-oriented unlocks like the smoke grenades aren't the first to come. It would help a lot in establishing a team-focused gameplay mindset in newcomers.

May be a silly questions, but when I quit a game (usually after the new map loads up) it gives me the standard warning about unsaved data. When does the game actually save your stats? In BC2 there is a revolving circle thing that says its doing it when you quit. I just lost some points, that I had in the game, and after I quit it wasnt on the web stats. Im no point whore, but if I rank up, Id like to keep it.

I always wait until after it gives the rundown of the awards/points after the round and then alt-tab out, then you can check to see if the server has updated on that little info box next to game center in BattleLog, then I use game center to close the game. Probably too conservative, but I got screwed so many times in the beta I don't take any chances.

Wasn't friendly fire on by default in BF2? I don't understand why it is off by default now - makes it way to easy to just lob tank rounds or helo cannon shells into any contested flag area.

Does anyone like the commorose in BF3? Its so clunky and you can barely see whats highlighted.

The thing I don't like about the command rose is that it shares the same key as spot. This causes the problem for me where it will come up and take me out of zoom, or just blocks the screen.

Also the quick commands (in BC2) don't seem to work as well (or is it by design?) with the addition of the command rose. For instance if you press spot while aimed at say a friendly tank in BC2, it will indicate you need a left or can repair. This doesn't seem to work in BF3?

Would have been better if it were a separate key and the spot button retained its BC2 functionality in my opinion. Either that or maybe add a setting to be able to adjust the amount of time you need to hold down spot to bring up the command rose.

Rush was by far the most fun to play in BC2... but it just seems so different in BF3. Conquest is definitely better this time around.

I really wish the SKS wasn't specific to Recon. I used to love that gun back as the Vietcong Anti-Tank in BFV... no scope sniping ftw.

The IRNV is definitely easy mode; my KDR was around 1.2 and it's now around 1.5 after getting it. I guess it will be my counter to the rocket jerk off fest.

Why didnt they just retain the one as in BF2. It worked fine AFAIK

I don't know if it's just me but I actually enjoy Metro Conquest.

I'm going to try to level Support a bit. Although I keep going back to Assault. Although it's a pain the M320 replaces the Medkit instead of Defib.

I wish you could use the russian guns for US side :( haha

I believe you can once you max out a class. Have a look at the unlocks for the classes on Battlelog; the last two unlocks for Assault are the two starter weapons for both sides.

Another thing is that it seems like hardly anyone is playing Support. I will maybe see one or two ammo packs deployed a round, if that.

A10 is unfortunately only in a couple Rush maps. I know caspian and one of the ones that starts on the carrier.

Most supports I've noticed tend to stay put in a good camping spot, prone with their guns aimed at a busy corner or door. At least that's what I've found the 4 hours I've played the last 2 nights. I'm not complaining mind you, with the bipods the'ye perfect for that purpose. Working as intented is the way I look at it.

I play support and mobile, I don't even use the LMGs or bipod. The problem with dropping ammo is the lack of a quick request system using spot like BC2. In BC2 people would just spam Q on you and its obvious someone wants you to throw down some ammo.

im pretty sure that when i first unlocked mine in beta for my m416 that i was saying to myself, hmm this thing is STUPID OP, once everyone gets it and tries it, no one is going to move away from using it. it's just THAT good.

the only problem with it is if your playing in Close quarters it's very disorienting to go from thermal vision to regular view and back again.

Im playing more support than ever now, mostly because i played assault and recon in beta and i need a change of scenery, i just use my MP7 instead of an LMG and i usually throw down ammo bags whenever i see the icon on the minimap over their character.

Is it just me, or are the planes/heli's MUCH harder to fly in this compared to BF2?

In BF2 I had the heli's spot on, I could fly low, pull off tricks, go around tight areas, etc.

In this one is just seems a huge pita to fly decently. Mainly because you can't seem to seperate elevation controls and pitch/throttle, unless I'm missing something.

In BF2 I basically had it where my Q/E controlled elevation thrust, up/down. W/s/a/d controller forward/back/left/rightetc and mouse controlled movement when I needed to turn/aim. Is was quite simple to use and felt very natural. Is there no way to do that in BF3?

But the name of the kit is "Support"...that doesn't mean solely support yourself, lol.

The most effective use is to find a good hold point, have people deploy health and ammo kits, and hunker down (if defending). If attacking, move up gradually, deploying both health and ammo at each movement point.

I don't think sitting on some hill by yourself with an MG and infinite ammo is really the way the class is meant to be played. People do it, sure, but you're not really helping your team any...only your K/D ratio.

^ there you guys go, shiznilti posted about smoke grenades a few pages back. it's an unlock for the assault class.

the only thing that sucks about this is that you lose your medic paddles/bag idr which, but it was a pain, so i never used the m320.

I totally I agree, I was just pointing out what I've seen. I've also seen support players that drop ammo bags whenever they stop. That's how I play as a medic (a habit I've carried over since bf2). I think some players just need to get into that habit.

yeah especially since a lot of conquest maps have 2 hornets, they should make it 1 and 1 and include the a10.

I play Support and offer ammo every time I stop next to a teammate. Then I setup my bipod and camp for a bit until I can move up.
