Battlefield 3 Beta Performance Thread

I will post my numbers with my 2500K @ 4.6GHZ and 2 GTX 470's @GTX480 speeds come monday. Waiting for Zalman Heatsink to come in as the fans on my MSI GE GTX 465 unlocked 470 card broke and it was in-possible to find replacements.

Thanks for the reply! Do you know about running Ultra with 2x AA and maybe something like Motion Blur and HABO turned fully off?

I'd really like to have a little AA as Caspian Border doesn't look so great when viewing things from far away (very jaggy)..

atleast a 580 if not 560 ti sli

Anyone not able to use the latest Beta drivers with a GTX 260? I get really bad stuttering, on every setting level. With older drivers I can run it on Ultra and it's smooth.

I don't get stuttering myself, just really low FPS but your CPU roundhouse kicks mine lol.

I finally managed to spend some alone time with my home box and bf3.

I'm thrilled to report that an x3 710 overclo ked to 3.4 and a 5870 play the game ina very enjoyable way. It's not butter smooth, but ver very livable.
:D

I wish the chip would unlock to a stable x4, I'd really like to see what difference it makes.

oh, and the shiny new h60 I put in there is fan fucking tastic too. :D:D

Does it get especially bad in the metro? It's pretty smooth outside but I get the stuttering inside. My FPS is like 40-50~ but it feels really off, don't remember this happening in the alpha with my 260.

What drivers work good for you? I might check them out to see if it helps.

i've gotten pretty good performance on eyefinity, crossfire works well for me. getting 67 fps.

Here is cpu usage on an i3/6870 playing Metro inside subway at 1080p no AA HSAO off Post AA Low 8x AF Medium Settings.

GPU stays maxed at 100%.

The Catalyst 11.10 preview kind of sucks. Performance was better, but there was a lot more glitching. Anyone who went prone suddenly had that elongated limb problem, the windows you can see far in the distance as an attacker flicker like mad. Could just be game problems I suppose.

Performance on rig in my sig is acceptable, but merely acceptable performance is unnaceptable! Have to decide if I am holding out for 7000/600 series cards or throwing another 6870 in here. I only play at 1080, so crossfiring 1gb 6870's should probably do the trick for ultra?

Any way to check ping in this game yet?

Where do I go to change my settings? I can't find it. I log into the game using a web browser....

My system is in my signature. My six core system is almost at 100% utilization. According to my G-19, I was hovering at 55% low and up to 85% CPU utilization (it's spikey and it fluctuates wildly sometimes). This is higher utilization than battlefield bad company 2.

I cannot play at my native resolution at 2560x1600 ( the screen map on the lower left corner isn't being aligned correctly.) I had to go down to 1920x1200 and set everything to medium with no AA and no shadows. The game is running really smooth (60+ on FRAPS). It had this strange "lag" at ultra mode. Like everything had a half a second delay when I attacked or interacted with the MCOM. Basically I am just going to wait for kepler or 7970XT at this moment. Spending close to $1000 at this point isn't worth it.

I am just hoping it's a driver/game issue. But overall I am pretty happy with the game.

Mr Mean, you are getting 85% cpu usage with a 6 core/12 thread i7? even at 1280x960, I never saw 85% during actual gameplay with just my 4 core 2500k. most of the time is around at 70-75% and at 1920x1080 it would probably go down a bit.

I forgot to mention I disabled Hyperthreading for a more stable overclock. Sorry about that.

Thanks FIRAS! If anyone has a budget build AMD Phenom with 4GB or less... please post your stats and info! preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze

It seems everyone here has badass i7 with 8GB ram and 300+ buck GPU.... anyone else with some real world PCs???? :p :p

Runs good on ultra at 1650x1080

Friend 1:

Pentium D 2.2 o'ced to 3.0
2gb ram
9600GSO o'ced by about 20%

Runs good on low in 800x600 windowed mode.

Friend 2:

i5 660 stock
12gb ram
gtx 465 stock

Runs on ultra with AA and HBAO off 60+ fps at 720p.

Friend 3:

Athlon II 255 stock
2gb ram
240gt

Unplayable at 1650 so he gave up.

Does that help?

If you're talking about the mini map on the lower left (and your ammo display on the right) is being cut off by half then go to Video settings and adjust in Open Screen Adjust. Same thing happened to me when first playing at 2560x1600 and took me some time to figure it out.

QuiteSufficient, there is no such thing as a Pentium D 2.2. if there was then basically no modern game would be playbale much less a cpu intesive game like BF 3. so I assume you actually mean a 2.2 Pentium Dual Core as those are based on very cut down versions of Core 2 duo. and at 3.0 it would probably be like an E8400 lowered to around 2.4-2.5 so that would at least exceed minimum requirements.

Using system in sig, my FPS in Metro ranges from upper 30s to lower 40s using the Ultra Preset (1900x1200)

Rig in sig, I play with the following for ~50fps avg outdoor. 11.10 betas

Textures - Ultra
Shadows - High
Effects - High
Mesh - Ultra
Terrain Quality - Ultra
Terrain Decoration - Low
MSAA - Off
Shader AA - Off
AF - 8x
HBAO

Some of my choices aren't strictly for perfomance benefits. Such as, terrain decoration is low because I prefer to have less distractions on the map so I can see the enemies better. Effects quality high vs ultra does improve my minimum fps a bit, but it also lessens some smoke and haze, again allowing me to see the enemy better. MSAA = off is strictly a performace benefit and while the shader based AA doesn't zap fps too badly, it gives the scene a softened, dreamy-like appearance that I don't care for. Also the game feels more responsive without shader AA. I'm learning to live with the jaggies. Even if I turn down HBAO in favor of SSAO it doesn't grant me enough performance to turn on 2xAA.

Hopefully drivers can sneak out a little more performance.

Anyone else try to install the nvidia 285 beta drivers and be told they "don't work with this version of Windows"? I have 2x GTX470 and 7 x64 so I don't know what's going on.

Are there any suggested solutions?

 You covered the most interesting parts

I'm so used to seeing that background I do not even think about it. I forgot there were two asses on my desktop until I posted the picture. Luckily, I covered them.

Had same problem with no solution, just used the regular 280 WHQL, with a similar video card setup (SLI - Thanks to Microcenter I couldn't pass up another 570). The only problems I've got aren't performance related, just some invisible terrain and whatever bugs are present.

No, choppy all over.

I'm running 280.26

Anyone else have to restart the game for any changes to go into effect? It's kind of annoying.

Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
4884 60000 66 109 81.4

Love these numbers. Wonder what I'll see with a 2500k and my 2 6950's. A 60-70 minimum would be fannntastic. Seemless.

Anyone have 570 SLIs running with it on Auto settings? I'm showing 90C temps on my first card and 80s on my second when playing. Something I should be concerned with?

1900x1200, Ultra settings, 4x MSAA: I am averaging 59 FPS in the outdoor level and 78 - 80 FPS indoors. The game taps out my 2x 570 SLI. Seems to balance well and both are hovering around 95 - 98% utilization with the 280 drivers.

I am not noticing the lag that everyone is yammering about. This game truly feels like a sequel to BF2.

Rig in sig playing on an LG 1680x1050 monitor - Everything max'd 4x Morph AA, 16x AF rarely dips below 60fps.

Anyone experiencing any crossfire issues? For me, it runs nice at first, then it starts to stutter, then stuttering turns into pauses that lasts anywhere from 3 - 10 seconds.
