I am a big AMD fan and all I can say is, how did the Phenom ll x4 get the best (average?) frame rate??? I find it hard to believe.

OK, can some people give me a true, realistic opinion about the 6-core AMD chips and how they run in real world settings? I haven't had a AMD chip since the 3000+ and I wanted to get a new motherboard/cpu/ram to replace my C2D setup in my sig and need to keep it on a tight budget in a couple of months.

I think you posted in the wrong forum unless you want to know how AMD six core cpus work with BF3. If that is the case it looks like it doesn't matter much what cpu you use (assuming it is a current one, heck even some dual cores are looking OK kinda)

i7 860 pegged at 70c /w a H50? idle is 30c so i think the air is just heating up and sitting in the case. anyone else care to share their core temps?

adding more fans today 3xscythe 800rpm to the top for exhaust, push/pull on the H50 and replacing 1x140mm intake.

I have the same dilemma,
Want to upgrade from core duo too.

After some digging my favorite is Sandy Bridge platform:
Core i3 2100 or 2120/30
Board with P67 chipset for further upgrades and overclocking
This Cpu is enough for 1920x1080 gaming and has low power consumption
Adding 6850 cyclone to it. and 8gb ram.....

That's pretty much what I just built. Runs BF3 great, you'll be satisfied.

Well i just preordered it. I like the beta a Lot, WAYYY more than COD and while the Metro MAP might not be the best, it's not that bad (i mean not as bad as the Boat level in COD in MW2).

I didn't like the web interface at first, but it grew on me. it's easier to browse for unlock than a game interface for sure..

Sadly, looks like I wont be touting eyefinity for this one. I really thought it'd be doable. I can do eyefinity with low settings, but a single monitor on ultra is just so fucking pretty...

AMD 1055t
6950 2gb (unlocked) x2
8gb ram

There's always BC2 if I want some eyefinity fun. :(

Every server browser has been a step backwards from the 90's. Take a look at the Tribes 1 server browser. You could find the exact server you wanted super fast, and it had all the useful filtering you want (that still doesn't exist in most modern server browsers).

So based on the charts, you need a quad core CPU at reasonable clock speed and doesn't have to be the best CPU out there (Sandybridge). What is most important is the GPU.

Yep. The rig in my sig never saw anything above 85% CPU usage on Caspian Border. I run the game with everything on ultra. No anti-aliasing, but high post AA (removes all jaggies anyway).

I run at 1680x1050 with FPS never dipping below 45 or so.

what is the difiference between 1920x1080 and the 1200 aside from the obvious like fps wise iive never had a monitor capable of that resolution and remember at one point 3dmark wouldnt let me run on xtreme because of it was always curious to know how big of change in fps their would be..

sorry to derail the current conversation but..

either im high as hell or im dead wrong...

I have all settings set to ultra, hbao, motion blur on but at 0... I use MSAA 2X and all is well, game looks amazing runs steady 60 fps except for in one of the hotel rooms in Metro.... EDIT: even caspian in open fields... >50fps

I switched to ONLY MSAA 4X... I did not touch another setting, I did not touch anything except for that..... Well, my entire quality went through the roof, shadows, post-processing, everything..
Has anyone experienced this before and know the cause?

I've noticed that the settings don't always seem to stick, even after a restart, so maybe the settings finally took? I've been trying to turn off motion blur since day one, for example, and it never stays off.

To turn OFF Motion Blur you have to dig somewhere in config files......

Did a fraps benchmark of maybe five minutes of Caspian Border on my system. All settings maxed, Ultra, 4x deferred AA, post AA set to high. 1900x1200.

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
20488, 258634,........58, 122, 79.216

Love my computer.

so last night i added three scythe 800rpm fans in the top of my case as exhaust and a coolermaster 1,700 rpm for pull on my H50. i got 20c difference! went from 40c/70c (3 rounds of BF3) to 30c/50c (5 rounds of BF3).

never had an issue with heat before until the BF3 beta, after 3 rounds, the top of my case was super hot. was never an issue with BC2 or COD.

do you know if the final product (not beta) will be heavier?
I mean more GPU/CPU angry?

I just ordered 3 26in IPS 1900x1200 panels.

Anyone running NV Surround? Will I need a 3rd GTX 580 to max everything out or will I be okay with 2? I've never used surround before so I'm not sure if I should just 1/3 my FPS to get an estimate or if the other screens are less demanding than the main one.

You're most likely going to be VRAM limited at those resolutions. I assume you got the 1.5 GB GTX 580s, right?

Finally got into caspain border. Ran fraps :-( Man my system at 1920x1200 at everything set to HIGH I'm getting about 30 fps with my system. Also vysnc does not appear to work. I hope the final is better optimized. Otherwise looks like I will be running everything set to MED...

lol its not a question of vram, it a question that two cards is not enough to manage such a huge resolution.

1920x1200
Ultra settings
4x AA

Smooth as butter.

I expected this game to be more demanding. My video card actually runs cooler than bad company 2. How is that possible? I dont even break 70 degrees and in bad company Id hit mid 70s.

The graphics are better, yet its less demanding on the card. Anyone else notice this?

That's good news, sometimes I was amazed in BC2 how my temps randomly jumped from 60C one minute to 75C the next.
