Battlefield 2042

Squad is okay, but a lot more tactics based. It isn't something you can jump in and play, you really need coordination. They also insist having odd "realistic" features that are often not realistic at all. It is a niche game but that niche and fan base keeps it active. I can't get into it, I prefer more of a mix like the original Red Orchestra. More realistic than BF but still easy to jump into.

Enlisted. Never heard of it, looks okay but not great. Problem is it is free to play, and free to play games almost always suck. Most people just don't have time for them, as they are either expensive (8-10 times more than a paid game) or require you to dedicate your entire life.

ArmA 3. Not in the same category. This is all based on the mission editor and not consistent quick action that you can just join a server and jump into a few games. Also just very dated in so many ways.

HLL and PS look okay. I wonder how populated they are.

So nothing really that great out there. Certainly not with a populated player base. Squad is certainly nice if you love the extreme amounts of coordination required.
if you're looking for a more arcadey pick up-and-play style where you can lone wolf and have fun, there's a series called Battlefield that can be pretty fun and has a large playerbase :p

You can jump into squad and just spawn on a fob or whatever and kill people. but some of the maps are pretty much running simulators

I remember Battlefield. Wish they would continue the series. :ROFLMAO:

But really, DICE has always been bad at making games. They made a few decent ones but it was short lived. With EA making all the decisions that is the nail in the coffin.

I installed it again to see if there were any added features.. It was double XP weekend so I got several more things unlocked since I played a year ago.
Overall I think the game is in a better place. Optimization has increased. And there seems to be a larger variety of weapons, vehicles and a few more maps/modes than since I played.
I came in thinking I was going to laugh myself to uninstall, but man did I have some pretty okay battles.

Was it the best time I've had in a BF game? Nope.
Did I enjoy the chaos that unfolded? Absolutely.

I will say, my 5900x was finally starting to sweat a little - haven't seen a game take up 50 to 60% of its usage yet.

That's one reason I may load it up again, maybe. I wanna see how much it taxes the 12700KF 12 core cou at 5ghz cause my older 6900k was struggling to keep up at 80-90fps.

Should run incredibly smooth. Game ran great for me at 3440x1440p - I think DLSS Balanced was enabled by default.

Glad to hear it's improving... I'll have to fire it up soon!

Still ticked to hear they removed rush mode though :(.

Well, I bought 2042 on sale for $26CAD after the free weekend. I played 4 hours of the weekend across a mix of game modes and felt they fixed enough of the crap from the beta/release version a year ago to justify $26. I agree with everyone that is pales in comparison to BF4 (I put probably 1,200 hours total into BC2/BF3/BF4 combined) but it is a fun enough BF experience to me for that sale price. With graphics cranked and DLSS on Quality, it's impressive visually and the framerate is around 90 on my 9700K/3080 at 1440p. I'm not a pilot, but the armour feels... passable... so far.

So many dumb UI/UX choices, no server browser obviously, but also the fact most game modes kick you back to the menu after a round. Why doesn't Rush continue with the same teams or reverse attacker/defender on the same map?

I'll probably get 100ish hours out of this like I did with BFV. Definitely enjoyed BF1 more than BFV.
Unfortunately kicking people out after every match seems to be the standard MO in AAA games these days. Funny how the fight against "toxicity" has completely killed gaming communities from developing.
Emphasis on real world vehicles and weapons. There is World War 3, but that released in early access and probably never got finished. I believe it died long ago. I know there are a few indie WWII games but they probably have a tiny player base.
World War 3 is still being developed, but the developer was bought out by a predatory Russian publisher (My.Games, owned by Mail<dot>ru).

Hm, had heard it was removed near launch. Guess it was a doofus claiming it. Thanks!
I remember they definitely pulled it and made it a limited time mode thing. Crazy - definitely one of the best modes in a BF game.

I thought there was a sub-menu to search for game modes on certain maps (Conquest at least) but maybe not? Put in a bunch more time over holidays, it's reasonably fun, graphics and performance are good in current state.

Heavily disagree with flogger about Apex/OW being kids games. Skill ceiling and movement in Apex specifically is light years beyond BF games.

Wait so is it ingame or not now? :)

Only 16 v 16 though :(

So DICE brought Infantry Only mode back? It was fun playing BF2 maps like Strike at Karkland,Warlord,Sharqi. Mashtuur on I/O. Wish they brought it to BF3.

128 player IO map looks like fun but it's still not enough for me to buy BF2042 though.

Gonna have to play around with the Rorsch some more, I forgot that it damages vehicles and didn't realize you could snipe pilots in 2042. Been having fun playing with a buddy, both deploy as Lis and just team up on armor with TV missiles/C5, adding Rorsch to that to harass pilots will be awesome. Usually end up winning conquest because we are annoying enough that enemy armor focuses on us instead of capturing objectives.

Season 4 came out few weeks game is discounted on Steam. I see the stole the black and green from MW.

Yeah... I saw its on a STEAM sale too and was tempted to buy but their MW style trailer is a turn-off. If I wanted MW I'd buy MW but I want BATTLEFIELD!!

I'd pay real money for a re-mastered BF4 but doubt they wouldn't screw it up. RIP Battlefield.

It's not battlefield anymore. I don't play with my 32 friends in voice against another organization. There isn't a list of favorite pub servers to go to with human admins that kick shitheads.

However, it is a bit of fun to fart around in and some good, unique fights to be had. Looks nice too. So yeah. Hit reg is good. Movement is mostly nice with the exception of a weird ass stumble they added recently. For vehicles whores though? Good times.

They won't ever do that. Go to more casual gaming websites and forums. I am shocked and saddened by how much people willingly drop $15 to avoid a grind, or get the newest clown costume. I knew some people were paying for it, but I had no idea how many were. It is completely normalized. Classes, stupid cosmetics, limited time events, and lots of in game advertisements are here to stay.

Community run servers aren't going to come back because it breaks people away from the micro transaction buying pipeline, which is driven by developer set play lists. And you can't fix the gameplay fully without fixing those first.

Playing this finally. Feels like BF since the classes were introduced. Definitely worth picking up on sale.

This is actually playable now and there are 128 player games to hop into all the time now. It doesn’t feel quite as alien to the series since the last patch. I’d recommend it at like 60% off.

It seems like they took some of the criticism to heart. Battlefield may have a future, but it isn’t this game.

the "classes rework" was just them putting specialists into class categories. I jumped in and was like, this isn't any different. But I agree the game is in decent shape for what it is. I wish I could pick the damn map I want to play on.

Exactly. When they remove the gimmicks and stupid characters, then they will finally have removed the "specialists". Bring back generic looking soldiers for each side so they actually look like soldiers and each time actually looks different.

Actually I agree, but, I think returning classes to this game makes a big difference. It allows you to pick a role and then specialists within that role.

The whole game feels very different from launch. The maps seem stronger, overall, the game now looks and feels polished and there is a nice sense of scale to 128 player matches. It just seems like a proper Battlefield now, and frankly there is some solid FPS game play and the vehicles are a blast.

There is also, if not actual destruction (seems like there is some) a real interactivity with the environment. In one instance, I lit up some kind of electrical sub station the enemy was hiding in with the chopper door gun, and the whole structure seemed to progressively damage, sparks shooting everywhere, then a secondary fire. Things seem to he exploding all around.

I like it. It is FAR from the best in the series, but it definitely scratches the Battlefield itch. I actually think it has some merit.

I don’t think it is as good as BF4, but it channels it a bit.

U sure they are not ai bots filling in the 128 players slots?
Also the aircrafts are terrible. Very unbalanced. They feel like rc controlled toys when you fly them and the amount of lock ons in the game countering you is crazy meanwhile you can't break line of sight to counter them once they lock on that's it. Lol that's miserable.

I think they wanted the air vehicles to not be as dominate as they were in BF4 in a great pilots hands....but they took it too far. Most of the air vehicles feel like easily shredded paper. The planes feel the worst, little birds are probably the best. I used to love jumping in the gunner seat of a chopper with a good pilot...now its not even worth it. Tanks and APC's are almost worthless as well. I forgot where I saw it, but I liked the idea that this game got really screwed by COVID and EA pushing the game out the door. Its better now, but it still doesnt measure up to the fun I had in BF3/BF4.

The thing is, Crossplay is enabled so I'm playing with at least some xbox players. I do not see AI bots. I think anti-air and anti-tank is overpowered, but it is "overpowered" in real warfare as well. Tanks aren't lasting long in the current conflict, mostly due to Javelins, and that is also the case in this game. The point is this does feel like a Battlefield game now. If you are looking for a Battlefield game, this is it. There is nothing else that does what this game does, period. If you measure it against other battlefield games, it doesn't do very well. I think this is good filler at a discount price. I also think it looks good visually, better than at launch. This is just a snapshot of the series, and it is an ugly one. However, if you look at the changes they made and how the game flows, when I hop in this game now I can't escape the feeling I'm playing Battlefield again. There are some pretty bonkers moments here. I think in some ways this game can't be salvaged, but I think developers understand what they got wrong, I think they understand what the fans want and expect, and I think they moved the game in that direction. All of which gives me hope for the next game, if there will be one.

If you aren't going to play this game, I think the question is, what are you going to play that fills this niche? I don't really see a more compelling multiplayer FPS than this right now, frankly. Also, I'd get in while there are players because once the game dies off you will be waiting a long time to play this type of game again. I think there is more fun to be had here than BFV right now, for example.

I also think we need to vote with our wallet on this one and make clear to developers that we want more Battlefield, but we aren't paying $60 for some half baked garbage. Since they moved in the right direction at least, I don't mind the $27 or whatever I spent on this.

Edit: It looks like more content is planned. The general professional critical consensus seems to be they were winning some players back. I started this thread and have been playing since 1942 launched. I find it hard not to recommend this at this point given the aggressive discounting on the game's price.

Haven't played for a real long time, but the World Tour is a blast from the past for me for some of the older maps
