Batman: Arkham Knight

There is no way in hell that Warner Brothers and Rocksteady Studios were not aware that this PC port was not up to par with the console versions. The issue is that most game devs have zero respect for PC gamers. They dumped this turd on us and figured that they'll release patch/es in the coming weeks or months to address whatever they didn't get time to before release date. It's the same sad story over and over again.

You're just more optimistic than I am.
Steam Refunds will either encourage developers to work harder on PC ports or stop making them entirely.

Not really. I just think thats an extreme notion.
Most people like money and I don't see how cutting out a third of the market makes any business sense. WB/Rocksteady is going to learn the hard way, but they will learn, if they like money. PC gaming is growing, not shrinking, you know.

Game plays just Fine here, All Max settings with all the Gameworks stuff. 2600K @ 4800 Mhz, 16 gigs of ram, 2 G1 980 Gtxs in Sli 1540 Core, Most current drivers, 2560X1440 Rog Swift with Gsync enabled. Im bummed out about some details left out, the absent rain drops are really shitty. Nice Port morons.

Didn't Nixxes work on the Tomb Raider and Deus EX: HR PC ports? Those games ran pretty well. And WB seemingly allocated enough resources for Monolith to port Shadow of Mordor to PC, another well performing PC game.

What went wrong here?

Pretty sure Nixxes didn't do this port.

Unless I misread your post and you just mean, why didn't WB give this company the resources they needed to make a decent port. In which case...maybe the port company just sucks?

Running fine (like 40 and up) for me at 4k after I got it to actually launch, on desktop in sig. I turned off the fog and paper effects since I didn't really notice those at all.

Iron Galaxy isn't a bad studio, but they don't have a ton of big PC experience. Plus their main developers are working on the PC port of Killer Instinct and probably season 3.

And to me, it's surprising that they would be handed Arkham Knight. It would be different if this were a beginning franchise or a less hotly anticipated game. Give it to someone who can make it shine!

I'm glad to see that some are having a good experience with the game, but I can't help but wonder how different things would be if Nixxes had handled the port.

It runs fine for me at 1080p with gtx980ti, and all settings maxed, but are there any other textures but normal?

I feel like there are a lot of options missing

The price was probably right.

Nixxes is working on Rise of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. I doubt they're taking on new projects right now. They seem to mostly work with SquareEnix these days too.

Personally I am liking it so far, though I am still not too thrilled with the batmobile. It's not easy to control at all. In the racing challenge I kept falling off ledges and over steering like crazy. Then battle mode feels like a twin stick shooter type minigame with a vehicle that is just way too maneuverable. I definitely chuckled when they evacuated the entire city of 6million minus the criminals so Batman can drive recklessly running over anything that moves and shooting his guns like a maniac. :D

The droplets texture maps definitely seem to be missing. In the rain Batman's cowl does look wet but like evenly wet like he got dunked in water and not rained on. I am more inclined to believe they just didn't package those textures from the console version. Maybe on purpose Rocksteady didn't give it to the port company so that they could show Sony and MS that some things looked nicer on the console systems that they probably hoped no one would notice. ;)

Can your $3,000 PC's do this?

iron galaxy also released borderlands 2 on vita which went to 9fps.

but it also seems like they did arkham origins on PC. so I don't understand how this can be such a big clusterfuck?

True. I wonder if anyone could make that port work well without radically stripping it down. It was a really bad idea to port that, but I bet Sony paid good money for it.

Time would be my guess. I don't know if it actually means anything but according to SteamDB their name was only added to the entry two months ago.

Recommended Hardware Specs

(or equivalent)

Resolution: 1920x1080
V-Sync: On
Anti-Aliasing: On
Texture Resolution: Normal
Shadow Quality: Normal
Level of Detail: Normal
Interactive Smoke/Fog: Off
Interactive Paper Debris: Off
Enhanced Rain: Off
Enhanced Light Shafts: Off

Expected: 30fps (capped)

The Recommended Spec is intended to deliver an experience on par with the current generation of gaming platforms.
For an optimal experience, users with recommended spec hardware should not set their resolution higher than 1080p.
By default, the game may set Shadow Quality and Level of Detail to High on Recommended Spec hardware. Users should revert these to Normal.

With these settings on Rec Spec AMD GPUs, users can expect some minor texture pops, occasional loading symbols during fast-paced scenarios, and some hitches & stuttering when gliding or driving the Batmobile. To help alleviate this, AMD users using Rec Spec GPU’s should turn Texture Resolution, Shadow Quality, and Level of Detail to Low. We continue to work closely with AMD to resolve these issues as soon as possible; make sure you have the most current drivers and check back here for updates on when the next driver version is available.

Additional Recommendations

We do not recommend that users change anything in the game’s .ini files as this will potentially negatively impact performance, including frame rate, and stability.

At this time we do not recommend using NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience or AMD’s Gaming Evolved Optimization tools.
We’re currently working on improving streaming performance from mechanical hard drives (HDD). Addressing this is one of our top short-term priorities.
For users that have an SSD available, we’ve noted increased streaming performance when the game is installed to that type of drive.

Once again, we’d like to stress the importance of having the latest drivers from your graphics card manufacturer. Staying up to date could potentially alleviate many performance issues, and will improve your game experience.

- NVIDIA GeForce users should use GeForce GameReady WHQL Driver version 353.30

- AMD users should use Catalyst 15.6 beta driver

Crossfire on AMD is currently not supported. This is to be addressed in a future driver update from AMD.

Eyefinity (multi-monitor) on AMD is currently not fully supported. This is to be addressed in a future driver update from AMD.

When running Nvidia SLI, using the NVIDIA Control Panel to set one card as a dedicated PhysX card may improve performance.

Players should not disable and/or edit the size of their page file. Windows manages this automatically, and leaving this at the default settings will provide an optimal experience when playing Arkham Knight. We strongly recommend that users avoid making edits to this.

Lol, this game.... don't worry, it's a non lethal cannon. I mean, so what if you threw a guy into the air and the batmobile shot him out of the air, it's nonlethal.

Ports should be easier now that PS4 and Xbox are on x86.

Not a criticism here, but I always hear this assumption. A lot of people assumed that when Macs went x86 that they'd suddenly be running native Windows apps. A lot of AMD fans bought into the hype marketing that AMD GPU's would be elevated in status or performance somehow when running games on the PC side because "the consolez have AMD chip so console ports r gunna be optimiyz 4 AMD". People assume that the highly stripped down and customized fork of Direct3D employed on Xbone is the same as DirectX on Windows PC, and that it means some kind of synergy or efficiencies created, or greater ease of cross platform delivery or god knows what. All of these cases turned out to be marketing hype or just wishful thinking.

The development tools and API's for both consoles remain highly proprietary and custom to the platform. There is very little crossover with Windows PC. Otherwise, it wouldn't be such a headache for cross platform titles to the extent they have to farm the PC effort out to a whole separate team if not separate company.

1080p / 30 FPS.

This is "current gen gaming" according to WB.

That wasn't even "current gen gaming" six years ago! I was doing 1080p/60 FPS in every game back in 2009; now I've been doing 4K/60 FPS in every game for a year.

I wish Nixxes ported this too.. But I am having a blast and only have a minor issue with 21:9 AR during cutscenes. This game is fantastic and runs great on a single 970 with max settings.

Just played the game for 2hours. Downloaded the game last night and before I even open the game I verified integrity of the game. Changed the max_fps to 240 and it's running smooth for me. There's some dips but it's currently running smooth right now. no complaints here.

Edit: Oh yeah. Running on all settings high and turned off V-sync.

It's been running quite well with the 60fps cap. Seems a little more smooth but still some moments of frame drops and stutter---no frequent or drastic enough to be unplayable, though.

Tomb Raider ran well------but was missing most of the special visual effects that the PC version should have had, over the last gen console versions. like 2 weeks for a patch to come out and get the effects working.

Exactly.

Some fun involved with lack of transparency regarding the release date.

The rundown:

- Living in South Korea w/ a US billing address
- Own Arkham Knight through an NVIDIA code
- Activated on May 9th
- Preload as soon as Steam allows
- Game doesn't work on release day despite the countdown clock going away
- Connect via VPN & game activates
- Able to play only while on VPN
- Any other time, it stays on Pre-load & won't let me play via South Korean IP connection

All in all, seems pretty piss poor of WB to hold back a game via regional DRM  Oh... the lack of pre-order DLC pisses me off, too.

DXHR was not issue free at launch either. I can't say as much for Tomb Raider, although I believe there likewise was issues (and also regarding its add-on feature, TressFX).

Something to consider is some of the games people are noticing recently are very high profile (popular, highly scruntized) and relatively speaking pushing hardware boundaries. So the incidence of issues is likely going to be larger regardless of other factors.

Had high hopes for this game as I enjoyed the previous Batman games immensely. This one turned out to be a joke, waiting for game to be fixed before buying.

Also some people's memories might not be as accurate as they think regarding past games -

We can't really come up with a conclusion on this game just yet, there is much more to look at and examine. We need to see what the visual differences are between DX11 and DX9 in this game, and see if losing MVSS, HBAO and Tessellation are worth it to gain performance. One thing is clear right now however, there is a definite issue with DX11 performance and behavior in this game, and it seems to be game related and not specific to AMD or NVIDIA. It seems NVIDA users and AMD users alike are getting stuttering and choppiness when DX11 is enabled. We also found that SLI and CFX are equally not doing much for this game in DX11.

We hope this gets sorted out, as the graphics really do look nice in this game from what we have seen. We would prefer to run with MVSS, HBAO and Tessellation. However, if we had to play in DX9 the game certainly looks good for a DX9 game as well. We will have to look more at performance and image quality to come to any real conclusions, it is just too early to tell at this point. It does seem though, that even with the DX11 issue, the GTX 580 is standing out as providing faster framerates, compared to the HD 6970, in both DX11 and DX9

Why does that sound to me like, "Don't fix our crap you dam PC hackers. We won't get credit for fixing it when we do the exact same thing." :p

Take the cap off. Just don't set it higher than 60. It works.

It says right there in that ini that going past 60 will raise the risk of instability so don't do it.

4K is the nirvana of gaming, trying to say that 1080p/30fps is current gen gaming is like saying palm pilots are still relevant (they're not, right? :D).

Hilarious, but you know it's coming.

Man, i had no idea about pc version being so messed up and the backlash it created. Didn't pay too much attention because i'm not too crazy about Batman games, but there is a massive shitstorm going WB's way, and rightfully so. I hope they get crucified for this big time. And hopefully big publishers will learn something from this, but yeah i know, it's not gonna happen...
