I read this on another forum:

"Keep seeing scenes that just completely blow me away. The environment artists and the engine team have just simply outdone themselves. The game is worth playing for just the visuals alone imo. Just travelling around and seeing the sites of this game, without even considering any of the combat and narrative, is an extremely entertaining game in itself"

I'll be honest with you, the environmental scenes look the exact same as Valhalla and Odyssey to me. Some areas have improved lighting thanks to RT but it's pretty meager.
Cutscene quality is a totally different story, night-and-day improvements there.

People who keep boasting about how great the environment looks should re-visit those old games. Probably been a while and you forgot how good they looked.

The lighting is great with RT and the cutscenes are usually top notch, thunder storms look awesome.

Also, it cracks me up that dodging into something breaks it. Including doors and some fences. I literally never open doors unless I have to because I like to just burst through them like the Kool Aid man.

Love busting out into the street from a kakurega after fast traveling to the sound of gasps from the NPCs.

Yeah this game has the best rain since Arkham Knight.
The way it runs off roof tiles is amazing. And after the storm ends, everything kind of dribbles for a few minutes.

Same thing I’ve said before. I don’t know a single person who bought this on steam personally. They either just have the Ubisoft subscription or got a key cheaper 3rd party and are playing on uplay. Reality is most of the fans of this series are playing on console or uplay, and I’m not certain steam is an accurate gauge at all.
It's a fairly consistent measure of part of the player base, so it's easy enough to tell this is going down very quickly.

Ubisoft stated that Steam activations accounted for 27% of the game's player base. Because Ubisoft made that statement we can infer a lot based on Steam numbers. I'm not sure why this is hard to understand.

I've got over 70 hours into AC:S and I'm loving it. I've always been a fan of the Assassin's Creed series and IMO Shadows fits right in. The game looks and plays great for me. The story isn't the best but it's holding my interest so far. Hopefully this next patch smooths out some of the jank.

I think they announced a 73% consoles/27% pc split, no more precise break down than that (epic vs steam vs ubi+, they could even have counted geforce now in there).

Specifically it was 27% Steam as I recall. That won't count Ubisoft Plus or anything like that.

Cannot find any direct from Ubisoft statement (seem to be something they showed to someone) but:
https://www.videogameschronicle.com...ows-is-the-series-second-biggest-launch-ever/
Significantly, PC represented around 27% of total “activations” – which likely encompasses full sales and subscription downloads via Ubisoft+ – with Steam playing “a significant role” in that performance.
https://variety.com/2025/gaming/new...second-highest-ubisoft-video-game-1236346656/
Out of the total activations, PC activations account for around 27% of total activations, with Steam “playing a significant role” in that figure.

using the word like activation instead of sales make it sound like it include keys coming from hardware sales, streaming, everything they can count type. Actually bought it could be more 75%-25%, 77-23% for consoles... if not 82+%-18% if ubi+ monthly subs is quite popular.

Patch is out.

edit: Chain Assassinate now procs on all assassinations as long as there's an enemy in range, I think it's around the same range as a regular kunai throw. It's pretty insane now.

Patch nerfed Heightened Senses, lasts about half as long. However the duration on the tooltip didn't change... Might be a bug.

I kinda just wish Yasuke could stealth and parkour properly. He's great as a tank but sucks for any form of stealth or traversal. not really a big fan of the whole character swapping mechanic

I've never been a fan of the character swapping thing for main characters in general. That was always one of the things I didn't like with GTA 5. I liked all the characters, they were well written and interesting, but I didn't like swapping between them. I like having a character I play, not a stable I switch between.

I mean he just absolutely sucks to run around as for the most part, swapping really needed to be quicker and easier.

This is slightly countered by the fact that kicking people as him is one of the funniest things in the entire game

I stopped playing a few days ago, probably around 2/3 of the way through the game.
The main story is ok (didn't finish it). Side quests are either not very interesting or have no narrative at all (just assassination targets). None of the side content is compelling, like animal paintings and QTE mini-games. Exploring the world is boring after the 1st zone because you've seen everything. All the dense forests and slopey hills make getting around a PITA.

The knowledge point system kills replayability because nobody is going to want to pray and collect scrolls HUNDREDS of times to get their skills. The next time I want to re-play an AC game it certainly won't be Shadows.

The game is it at its best when you're sneaking around stabbing people which only makes up about 25% of the total playtime, though. Unfortunately every castle (fort) looks the exact same so it ends up feeling repetitive immediately.

I said it was better than Valhalla a few weeks ago and I'd like to change my answer. I like Valhalla better than this, I like all of the Layla games better than this. And syndicate, and Unity.
You know what this is probably the worst game in the franchise. I don't think it's a bad game but it's certainly not some amazing masterpiece like some people are saying.

Agreed, this bugs me in everything.

I've never been a fan of it either. Though GTA V is probably the only exception for me. That game handles it well enough. Plus, the campaign in it is long enough that you get to know each character pretty well. In other cases it just shortchanges both characters and quite often, differences in how each character plays may polarize the player against one or the other.

This is first ass creed game where I don’t even fire it up even though I know I have to finish it. It’s because of weird story telling that isn’t making me want to play. I thought Valhalla was crap and I spent about 80 hours in it. This one I have spent maybe 4.5 hours and I am not feeling the need to go back in. It might be my mood but a lot of what you are saying is what I saw in those 4.5 hours. I am also at the point where I don’t want to sneak but my little girl can’t handle a couple of punches so I die often. Not to mention the keyboard controls are horrendous and I need to remap dodge and parry.

Will do it when I get to it.

Regarding forts and castles, that is how they were (and in some cases that still exist, are) in real life. They were not built with gamers in mind, they were built for defending attackers. 😁 That is one of the few things Ubi got praised for, the world building and how accurate the castles were done.

I am about 2/3 in as well. I agree that most of the side quests get boring. I still like to do some of them but pay off is not worth it in almost all of them. Their only purpose is to grind levels and now just yesterday I said fuck it and cheat engined myself to lvl 60. I will not go for another bandit hunt and if there happens to be an assassination target near me then good, but I won't go my way to hunt each and every one.

Enemies scale up with your level anyway so you will NOT become overpowered if you do this, you just get rid of some of the grindier aspects of the game, you can do missions you feel like doing rather than what level you are and you can choose your equipment based on the looks rather than power. You won't be compelled to pick a weapon even if it looks some god awful jagged saw blade fantasy crap.
Personally I'd like to keep things look realistic. Naoe should look like a peasant blending in with a reed hat and as weapons a tanto and kusarigama, tools that anyone could carry rather than obvious weapons. And Yazuke wearing more ordinary looking clothing rather than full uncomfortable battle gear on all the time, unless I think the mission calls for it.

Anyway, Knowledge points is still something I have to hunt down just the get the skills. Not all of them are necessary either so at some point I'll just ignore them. It is already very clear that the combat system isn't that deep at normal difficulty. Naoe I won't even use for fighting unless necessary. One hit kill assassinations have been on in the options since day 1, that is her job. Get in, kill the target(s) and get out without being seen.
