I don't think you've read any of our 300 series reviews, because our conclusions do not mesh with your analysis.

anandtech didn't even review a single R9 300 card...just called it a refresh. I wonder if they will get a Nano sample.

HardOCP pointed out the 390X Strix was as fast as the GTX 980...but cheaper

Nevermind that it was originally developed as a Mantle techdemo, meaning optimized for GCN1.1

Mantle is another thing we haven't even talked about yet. We were not critical of Mantle, and embraced it, in fact, we were one of the only sites that made sure to evaluate BF4 under the Mantle API in our testing. If we were so anti-AMD, we would have been trying to put down Mantle, and we did the exact opposite, cause ya know, it was a technology we saw was a benefit to the gaming community. There were a lot of opponents against Mantle and its "fairness" concerning open API standards. We were not one of those opponents.

Close-to-the-metal GPU programming has always been a dream of developers, it makes better games. Without Mantle, I am a firm believer we would not be seeing DX12 right now. Mantle drove competition and pushed forward the need for a DX12. Mantle helped shape DX12. Kudos to AMD for pushing the industry forward on API. It was becoming stagnant, and AMD drove that innovation. I am very happy they did.

You guys are deffo anti-AMD. Without a doubt. And I remember back in like what, 2010 or 2011 there was the HardOCP "GamXperience" convention thing, which was just an AMD event. Oddly enough no one seems to ever mention that anymore. It ran for like 1 or 2 events then disappeared quietly.

Obviously something happened between AMD and HardOCP either during that time period or in between then and now, because I have noticed a drastic shift in spin on AMD products since then. It seems really obvious there has been a falling out in terms of HardOCP's relationship with AMD to the point HardOCP seems to harbor some not-so-thinly-veiled animosity towards them.

Also, I have tried to match up things with some of your benchmarks for my own comparison. I tried this to compare my Ivy Bridge system with the system in your Skylake review. The Lost Planet benchmark you guys run is completely unrepeatable because some of the settings listed don't even match up with what's available in the benchmark. And there are multiple demos available on LP for the benchmark too, IIRC. Again, not listed in your review which version is being run.

HardOCP, you need to work on your glaring anti-AMD bias and clean up your benchmark methodology a bit, with a full list of settings used. I used to come here daily and still did for a while, just for the forums. But even that is getting really dry. You guys really need to make more original content and editorials rather than just linking to other places all the time with a few reviews here and there. I find myself favoring WCCFtech and other sites like oc3d and even hardware canucks.

Brent, your back in my good books. not that you should give a crap, but I appreciate honest talk when it is offered and I believe i just read it, so thumbs up for whatever that means.
We will all see where this falls out when DX12 moves into the mainstream. Fact is AMD was caught on a long life 28nm for the worst and a late HBM delivery which gave Nvidia a huge advantage. They have placed themselves in a position to excel in the DX12/ Vulcan world. With game development largely done on GCN consoles and GCN heavily influencing DX12 and Vulcan we will see where the lowly Nano stands against the Titian X in a year.
    Keep up the good work.

That's a pretty lame response. But I guess you're right, I don't live in this site's 'reality' - whatever that is. Should I be drinking the HardOCP Kool Aid?

Maybe next time you could actually try addressing the points I made rather than skirt by the post.

It's easy to sit behind a chair and make accusations. You lack the facts and proof to backup your story. I can write a nice story too, doesn't make it truthful. These questions and topics have been covered in this thread already.

Fiji Nano (Fury Nano) has EXACT SAME performance and Crossfire scaling as Fiji Pro (Fury). I have several Nano's sitting on my desk right now. Quad-fire Fiji Nano is really good! Everyone can read my previous posts to see that I always speak the truth.

    Now that's a B.S. reply.

My mention of "GamXperience" is the only one to be found on the forum. Google still pulls up the old articles though. So, it looks like you definitely haven't addressed that in this thread. I believe Kyle said something along the lines like "it went down in flames after working on it for a year" in a post.

Anyway, not having all the settings and info listed necessary for a reader or someone else to repeat a benchmark you guys ran is just bad. Having repeatable results from an experiment is kind of one of the pillars of science. The one time I tried to run a test you guys did, there wasn't even the right amount of info to do it. Unprofessional at best and shady at worst. Feel free to grab the Lost Planet benchmark and try to repeat Kyle's test.

Anyway, don't have the time or desire to argue with you further about it. You're obviously not going to give a real reply because you can't. You can keep the ghosts in the closet for all I care.

So the full Fiji chips don't offer any additional performance? Any explanation? Is it throttling?

Except that we do, it is kind of the whole methodology behind our evaluations.

I'm not running a science experiment, I'm playing games.

    "The One Time"

I'm sorry the info you needed wasn't there. We strive to include all needed information in the Test Setup page and on each game's page. We report the playable settings we found in the game, that is the whole nature of what we do.

I just can't get over how butt hurt some of you fanboys are over a piece of silicon. If you're having to justify the Nano w/ quad-fire you've missed the point entirely.

Yeah, I remember the AMD - HardOCP event and wished I could have gone. It would have just been a 2 day drive and a blast to go to for my birthday in 2012.

Maybe because everything you said has already been addressed in this thread at least 3 or 4 times. Why should Brent refute your post point by point when he has already addressed those points in this thread.

Quite the situation, wasn't it last year amd invited kyle to an event to talk about crossfire? Now it seems if you say anything negative at all you get shit on from getting review samples. Laughable really.

I always liked AMD for their righteous underdog feel but Mr. Chief-Gaming-Scientist Hudy (maybe he's just a pawn? but I guess he has some input on the marketing strategy) has turned that "loveable" image into a disgusting image of a self-conscious, arrogant company that uses shitty backstage tactics to "prove their point". I feel sick AMD...

Wow, so many people are so butt hurt that their favorite GPU company completely dropped the ball this generation, and are so blinded by their own bias that they are willing to blame the reviewers rather than see reality...

    It's really kind of sad.

Interesting, I only see Nv fanboys running around and doing a happy dance. :D I have read this thread and noticed that no one that prefers AMD said that this was not a bad idea for them to charge $649 or not give out the card to reviewers. Bias is bias, I guess. ;)

My last ATi card was a 9800Pro.

AMD's handling of Fury marketing has been comical at best, self destructive at worst. It's not a question of bias.
I just want old ATi back haha.

I said it, and I usually go AMD, but now I'm stuck with a 970 with no reasonable replacement from AMD.

Exact same position. I plan to hold onto my 970 GTX until next year. I play on a 46inch 1080p monitor anyway so the 970 is perfect right now.

I bet AMD's benchmarks don't match with the real world performance of FuryX. If it's beaten by a 980 GTX, a couple of slaps on AMD's ass are required to get their head straight.

Crazy marketing people at an ignorant company.

Guru3D has stated they have one as well.

Trust me, it's not because they don't have a couple-3 of dozen to hand out. This is a conscience decision. There are sites, that for whatever reason, they've decided they can't trust to do a review.

Kyle and the other reviewers sounds like a cry baby, cant have the new toy then its foul and wounded kid crying. Its amazing they even think they have any right at all to test a product from a company. Its should be a privilege and AMD just shows it isnt a debate anymore how biased the sites have become.

You should really read all the post before attacking someone. Kyle have already said he's not pissed off, and he intend to purchase one and do a review later. He's just telling the readers so as not to expect a review on launch day, because usually [H] do get sample.

If you want to claim [H] is bias, then you would have to produce some evidence to back that claim up, because in the reviews here, all data are presented to us. You can see the performance standing from the data presented.

And finally, I'm not sure how you think it's good for a company to cherry pick reviewers that only praise their product. That would undermine the entire purpose of reviews, because it's basically saying give us good review or no more sample for you next time. You think this is the right way?

I'm not saying this to be a brown noser, but rather to exemplify the reason that I've been coming here continuously since the days of overclocked Celeron 300a chips.

Kyle and crew are honest and will tell you how shit stands in the most direct manner you'll ever find. If you don't like that, get a cup.

It's the PR agency AMD is using for this card, not AMD themselves. The decision not to send [H] a card likely had absolutely nothing to do with forum statements and likely more to do with [H] calling it as they see it with the FX and Non-X cards. If the agency is given a limited number of cards and are being paid to make AMD look good and produce good results they're going to give cards they believe will be more favorable before giving them to sites that are more blunt with their thoughts.

Maybe, but, i dont know, but im not so sure, but [H] does for sure have no love for SFF, am still looking for what sites that have a qenium innterrest if SFF silent powerbuilds, it used to be a thing in the past. so i for sure got my interest renewed with this card. :)

Outside of finding the price outrageous I will say I am interested in the card, especially compared to the ITX 970. I've got an MSI Z97-AC in my closet from when I had an ITX build and it's calling my name demanding I do something with it.

Hehe, im finding myself looking at real SFF cases again, planning and so on, reading up on "how to cool" again, reading abaut SFF psu, mini itx motherboards, low wattage cpus and so on, and well frankly having a fun time planning a pc build again, and that has been some years ago, i dont find big ugly pc cases any fun, but thats me.

I don't recommend the Z97-AC. The board itself is fine but it has the worst layout I've seen in several years.

I'm kinda interested in the Corsair Bulldog. I don't usually like crazy "look at me I'm a gamer" cases but it's neat.

Interesting case, but there you still can take advantages of full size grapic cards.
