980 Ti

So a guy is getting all pissy about the difference of a few hundred points in the graphics score in a 3DMark test?

Excuse me while I LOL the fuck out.

I don't buy products from manufacturers that feel the need to cheat. Same reason I don't own a 970.
Bring on the MSI.

I don't think he's being pissy? Seems like there is a 6-10% performance disparity that he was able to call out and technically demonstrate. I think it's more of being 'pissy' about potential dishonesty lurking behind the review methodology, for whatever reason.

I'm sorry, but the anecdotal evidence of one person over a score that is within the margin of error for PC configurations is not enough to call out for cheating. Not having SystemSpec running is suspicious, but we don't even have the temperatures of the testing environment from either source, the case that the user is using (since most review outlets test on an open bench), or other factors that could influence score one way or another.

Someone basically got upset that the numbers they saw with their new expensive purchase didn't match up with one review on the internet and decided to try and incite a lynch mob. Forgive me if I am a bit skeptical of his claims.

Feel free to not believe it then, I guess. He went through his steps and even reproduced the Guru score. His setup is superior to the Guru system, and he even 'neutered' it to try and get apples to apples comparison. I don't think he's at all experiencing buyers remorse - it's more of pointing out potential review dishonestly.

At the top end, for synthetic benchmarks on reasonably similar system setups - a 6-10% disparity is enormous and should not be brushed aside as 'margin of error.'

The end of his post shows the gpu vram oc'd by 11%, if legit. I don't use that program so I can't say.

IIRC, this isn't the first time Guru3D has been called out for imaginative results. Even worse is that they're banning any user with the audacity to question the review on their forum. I'm sure the Gigabyte G1 is a great card, but I don't rely on Guru for their reviews.

Gigabyte don't need the feel to cheat, gigabyte doesn't need false reviews to get a name in the GPU industries as they are very well known for superior overclocking products.. their New G1 Gaming cards are by far the best (IMHO) series of Nvidia GTX 970 and 980 and again In my opinion the best overclocker cards (without take into consideration exotic pricey cards as the EVGA Kingpin)...

my 980 TI hits 90% fan speed, and still cannot hear it with my headphones on playing any sort of game.
Sorry but you have to be borderline deaf or have the best noise canceling headphones ever made. Even at 80% the reference card is loud as hell.

Are peoples' cards really hitting 80-90% fan speed? Is this during games or during benchmarks? Default fan curve or custom? Mine has never gone above 50%. Temps are around 80c.

Note that I'm not trying to stir anything up... I'm more worried that my card isn't doing what it should in regards to the fan speed.

those are probably with a custom fan curve... I hardly think that can happen out of the box.. unless its in a really Hot ambient temperature +32C and inside of a crappy case with zero airflow and massive throttle..

As someone else has stated the total score changes by up to 11%. I have been pushing my friend to this particular card because of that review. For $690 he is expecting it to perform like that out of the box not sit there and tweak it for hours to get it to that point(It is his first build)

No that was manually adjusting the fan. And temps will always go to 83-84 on reference cooled 980 Ti cards at full load.

Damn the evga hybrid 980 ti cooler was in stock for only a few minutes. luckily got 2 for my potential sli setup. now I just going to wait and see if amd fury is worth jumping ship. I'm starting to feel like it isn't but rather wait and see before dropping 1300 on graphics cards. I'm thinking the hybrid coolers will easily sell back for the money on here unopened (possibly even profit). The demand for them is ridiculous

Out of the box without a custom fan profile, I think it goes to 50% if I hit 83 degrees.

I made a custome profile to get it into mid to high 70's temp. I feel it gives me more breathing room, plus I like cooler better then hitting 83 all the time and it throttles down. That just my preference

i use these headphones, Corsair Vengeance 1300

I dont think it noise cancelling, but I have a hard team hearing anything outside the game, wife gets super mad at me when I am playing a game and can't hear a word she says. (has its pros/cons)

But in all seriousness, maybe because I live in a noisy city the fans don't bother med.

I am not saying it is now loud when I am not playing a game and put it on full load, but with headphones on, I truly don't hear a thing.

I installed 2 hybrid coolers both of my 980's they are really nice and silent.

I'm hoping for a $50-100 price drop after Fury/X are released.
AMD will have slightly faster performance so maybe Nvidia responds.

I'm planning to buy two STRIX cards so the savings are significant enough to wait a few weeks.

Yeah I am hoping the top Fury card matches or beats Titan X so maybe we can get a small price drop on the 980 Ti. I am sure Nvidia is sitting back knowing they can release a fully unlocked 980 Ti and maybe give it the "ultra" moniker. My feeling is that they are also thinking about a reference hybrid solution.

Right now I am just using a 750 Ti since I that noisy hot running reference 980 Ti turd back. I guess its time to play some of those undemanding games while I wait this out...

Is it worth ordering the ACX 2.0+ edition for SLi. It is the only custom cooled card that seems to run cool. Thoughts?

Thinking about going with a reference card and getting a waterblock for it. Not sure if I should wait for any AIB cards that might give better OC results.

Amazon is showing signs of life. My EVGA 980 Ti ACX SC+ ACX 2.0+ will be here by mid week.

Good idea to mix a MSI 980 Ti Gaming with EVGA ACX 2.0+?
I am so tempted right now and I don't even play games on my PC anymore...
