980 Ti

More pixels of lower image quality != miles better.
You have to DEGRADE the visual I.Q in order to play at 4K.
The word "degrade" is not positive FYI.

Try again.

In many games, there's no difference between Ultra or High settings.
At 4K, there's a very small differences in AA settings.
A mixture of settings for best picture and performance is always the smart way to go.
4/8xAA of any type and maxed shadows etc. has never changed the way I visually enjoyed a game. Maxed settings is for mental satisfaction.

Games do not have to be maxed to receive a genuine gaming experience.
I've been PC gaming less time than most here, and I'm still surprised that people think settings needs to be in maxed in order to have a good experience.

Hey, most of you will be gaming on 4K within 2 years, so this conversation of 1080/1440p will be a distant memory, like dual core CPUs.

4k has opened up so many new monitor options it's unreal. You can get any stretch of pixel density from 24" to 48", some of which already have perfect scaling for 1080p. Any GPU that can max Alien Isolation at 4k can max Far Cry 4 at 1080p.

It's like when 1080p/1600p were released all over again. Even a 8800GTX wasn't enough for most games at 1080p but people still went for 1600p displays. Now 1080p can be driven well enough for most by a R290 and 1440p/1600p by a 980.

In general, PC gaming is about options and we should be happy that we are swimming in options right now. The biggest problem is that Fury didn't eat 980 Ti alive and force nVidia to push Pascal harder.

More on topic of the 980 Ti, TPU posted an eVGA ACX SC+ review. The Hexus review was pretty much useless with their benchmark suite and I like TPU's testing. I consider [H] to be the quality while TPU is the quantity.

I ordered an EVGA 980 Ti ACX 2.0+ (non SC) for $649 shipped. After I sell my 3 OG Titans I'll buy a second. Fine for me. I didn't want to pay any more than that anyways. My days of $1000 videocards are over.

Yeah, yeah, keep saying that, until the next best thing :D. I don't even have time for gaming anymore, and here i am with new 980ti. Remember that Al Pacino line - "Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in".

Think I'll go for an Inno3d card (you don't get those cards in the US I think but they get really good reviews here, cool and quiet). Stupid name and looks ugly as sin but if it gets the job done I couldn't care less.

http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00189154.html

About 15% OC out of the box and a supposedly outstanding cooler (the 780 ti version was dead quiet and <60c under load). It's actually the cheapest 980 ti I can see in Europe, hope it doesn't go out of stock before I get my pay :p

My Seasonic X-560 80+ Gold's gonna get hot but it's supposed to be able to cope with this kind of load just fine.

I still have to upgrade my PC. I'm still running i3770k @4.4GHz...Skylake here I come...

Was considering picking this up. How well would a 4690k keep up with a single 980 Ti?

Perfectly fine for the most part. Parts of Crysis 3 will not stay at 60 fps but thats about the only game I can think of where having anything faster than a 4690k would make any playable difference at all. Most games use 4 cores or less so an oced 4690k is basically as fast as it gets for modern cpus in most gaming.

Can the guy with 2 ACX 2.0+ cards report back on SLi performance? Any issues with heat/noise?

Got my EVGA 980 Ti ACX today. 1450 core right now, temps are below 80C with a moderate fan profile.

I hope that i7-2700K OC'ed to 4.6GHz will be a good match to 980Ti. If not, then skylake is coming.

Yo. Got the 2nd card Monday. Been crazy busy, so haven't had a lot of seat time, but SLi rocks with these. Games I've played single vs. SLi really quick are BF4, Metro 2033 Redux, Witcher 3 and some other non-taxing games.
When running my typical before/after upgrade benches - Heaven, Valley, 3DMark etc. the cards turn into hot, noisy beasts. The top card hits 83 and stays while the bottom card hits 69-71 or so. Exact same temp behavior as my previous SLi'd cards. I have not messed with fan pros yet and have not OC'd - why bother, really. Just means more heat/noise. Things are stinkin fast. I can still completely bury the cards with the right settings, but all games are now very playable and smooth with much improved settings, which was the goal. I'm seeing about 70%-85% scaling, depending on the game. With about 90% scaling on the synthetic benches, of course. Again, typical SLi behavior.
During games, the cards have not had near the heat/noise as the synth benches. I'm perfectly happy with the setup now and expectations have been met. I can try to answer any questions if there's something specific.
Fact is, at early adoption of extremely high-res, SLi is a requirement - always has been, nothing new here and you'll still want it with Pascal too, if you want high FPS (constant 60), smooth gameplay with some goodies turned on.
980Ti SLi gets a big thumbs up here. Glad I can use my 4K display that much better now.

Any examples of the monitors that can perfectly scale please?

I'd be interested in a c.30" 4k monitor that can seamlessly scale from 2160 to 1080.

Sure. The Benq BL3201PH can. NCX discussed it in his review, but I've had mine since December and was shocked at how well it scales. Honestly, I think 1440p on it looks the same as a BL3200PT (32" 1440p.) I had both in person. As for 1080p, I had it next to the old Westinghouse 37W3 and text was crisper on the Benq. At 4k I use 5 sharpness, 1440p I use 7, and 1080p I use 9.

I cannot guarantee that it's Acer counterpart shares any of the same internals except for the panel.

I've heard the P2715Q scales excellent at 1080p as well, but that's a 27".

Note that these are both IPS panels and if you prefer TN/VA, I would avoid them. None of the 4k TN panels scale well.

Getting my 980Ti today. Free 1 day shipping from B&H Photo. Nice.

Now I have to sell my 3 OG Titans. I don't expect much. (One of the fans is noisy) If I get $900 I'll be shocked. I should have enough for another 980Ti tho. People think I should auction them, Instant sale them, or both?

Which one? Link please! :D

Newegg has several models in stock. I just picked up an EVGA ACX version with backplate. They also have a Zotac reference card for $639.

I agree their shipping is BS - thank god for Shoprunner free 2 day for AMEX cardholders. :D

When did Newegg start doing Shoprunner again? Oh well, I could have ordered from them. Damn.

Edit- Nevermind. I noticed they don't do it on all products, only on a very limited number of items. That's why I didn't notice. No big loss.

Many thanks. I will try and wait for 2 MSI gaming cards since they are supposedly quieter than the evga coolers. Your temps are also a bit on the high side for non reference coolers.

980 ti SLi it is for me. Just have to be patient :)

Is there a confirmed release date for MSI cards? I believe they are coming at the beginning of July, is that correct?

Definitely not in Poland :) I was looking at store pages for this card and never saw it actually in stock, so I thought it's not out yet. Thanks for clarification.

EDIT: I found an offer, the card is supposed to be available on 29th of June and the price is bearable. I hope that is the same MSI card that we are talking about?

Does anyone have it and can comment on the cooling performance?

I think I got my first stable OC with MSI Afterburner on my EVGA ACX 2.0+ (no SC):

Core: 1442
Memory: 1872

That's with the fan on 70% and no over-voltage. Is that good? I ran Heaven for quite a while at that setting and it was rock solid and my temps were under 60F.

I don't know if I could do much better if I boost the voltage.

This card is a beast.:D

Yeah pretty much. I saw it in stock there a few times but I am not sure if I want it or not. Just wait a few minutes and that decision is made for you though. lol

it worth if are willing to mod the BIOS of the card and overclock the hell out of it being as quiet as possible.

980 ti reference hitting 83c in Batman Arkham Knight, 50% fan speed, 2300 rpm. Highest settings, 1440p, 3/4 NVidia gameworks enabled, forgot the one I left disabled...

It hits at least 83 in any demanding game if not capped at all. Thats what the reference 980 Ti was designed to do.

Lol that mailing list is uselss. By the time that mail traverses through the network cables in it's electromagnetic signals to your inbox, it will already be out of stock!

Just sold my 1st of 3 OG GTX Titans on eBay and I think I got too much for it.

Needless to say it's time to buy my 2nd 980Ti now.:D

I have missed it about 5 times now. Even when I went to checkout on one of the times immediatly after I recieved the e-mail.

The struggle is real.

EVGA ACX 2.0+ cards are back in stock on Amazon (SC+BP). Going for 679 a pop. DAMMIT!
To cancel Classifieds or to just buy these cards is the question.

For me price difference is only like 25 bucks (since for some reason shipping on ACX 2.0+ is about 40 bucks whereas, on Classifieds it is 20 bucks. lol.
