7970 Purchasing Thread

Looks like the last 3 are going fast as well. All will be OOS within few hours.

I was looking at the picture of the xfx black closely.. I couldn't see any heat pipes.. and then I looked at the included items. 1 cable is all that comes with it??? kinda glad I missed it.

Yeah, I noticed that also...

Kinda glad I don't have the excess dosh to drop on a 7970 (700$+ in Australia) for a couple of weeks, hopefully we'll see some non-reference cards out by then if not more news of them incoming :)

What else do you need? I never use any of the accessories when I buy a video card. Plug it in and go.

Got a Sapphire 7970!! I hate buying from newegg since I can get free 2-day shipping from amazon using my free student prime account, but oh well. :D

I'm thinking about buying a second one come tax return time in a month or two. I currently have a couple year old Corsair 750TX power supply on a 2500k system. Would I need to upgrade to a much larger psu? Not sure what all I would need, as the last time I had dual cards was the voodoo era.

I'd guess the 750 should be fine for 2 7970s, especially given their lower power draws, and the lower power draw on 1155 CPUs.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger for 2 Sapphires 7970s. Did the free trail of ShopRunner for free 2nd day air and no charge "rush" service. These things will be all OOS in no time.

God I wish this was a option in canada.

So will these ship out tomorrow even though release date is 1/12/12? They arent stating that they will be delayed or preorder so they should correct?

Release date is 9th last I heard.

Now I just gotta grab a dell u3011, I think ill get on that tomorrow.

Edit:

The real questions is how many FPS will I get in SWTOR on my 1080p monitor in the mean time xD

Sapphire is one of the main AMD partners, they could have gotten in as much stock as all the others combined. I am glad to see them doing well.

Ya I noticed that when I grabbed my 6870 over a year ago. They had huge stock.

Yep and very nice to see all the accessories they include too. Never considered that really until now.

Oooh I thought the 12th for some reason :( Cool, Ill wait for Amazon. Got a $50 GC to Amazon for XMas that I havent used :D

Purchased one of the Sapphire reference units.

Will put an aftermarket cooler on it as soon as a cool and quiet one releases.

Just ordered 2x Sapphire 7970. I am pretty excited and am hoping the talk of custom resolutions with Eyefinity 2.0 are true. I am running a 20/30/20 PLP monitor setup and I figured two cards would be needed to run games at 4960x1600.

I have a Corsair TX750 power supply, and have an HX1050 on the way in case I need the extra wattage to drive these cards.

Are you telling me I can game with my PLP 20x30x20 setup now????

I too picked up a sapphire card with the intent of either reselling it (if prices get jacked way up) or installing an aftermarket cooler if I keep it.

There's decent rumors of it, but it's still up in the air.

If PLP does actually come through, you're talking nearly 8MP - 3 7970s wouldn't be overkill.

um i am looking at the newegg pics and i dont see any display port inputs

Thanks I guess I will wait and see how this turns out. Most of the games i play run like butter on my GTX580 right now.

I have not seen anything that suggest PLP is coming, only mixed resolution of the same orientation.

If you can do mixed res it should be able to take a custom res. For PLP. I'm waiting to see if can really do PLP as I already have a 20x30x20 setup of dell monitor's. If it can I'm sooo picking up 2 of these.

Ahh, no, no inputs.

Two miniDP outputs, though.

Yup, looks like it'll do mixed resolution fine. Mixed orientation is going to be the kicker.
