They do the same thing every generation and somehow people still get excited for it... People were panic selling selling 2080Ti's when the "just as good" 3070 was coming out for $500. Same for 3090s and I'm sure there will be people that sell 4090s for cheap. We're a long way out from 5070's being readily available. I'm sure once they actually are out and proper benchmarks are available, it will seem like a fairly average card to most people. The scenarios where it's "Just as good" as a 4090 will likely be few and far between.
At $2500 the 5090 was a pass for me. At $2000, I might be convinced to pick one up. Especially if the scalpers that buy them opening day can't unload them and they end up in the open box section at Microcenter for a little discount.
