Well, I'm not sure where else to post this, so I'll post it in this thread since it's relevant.

If I buy a Technet subscription, how are User CALs handled in Server 2003? I am looking at building out multiple sites that will have >10 users connected to the server(s) at any given time. However, I have no current way to test this without buying 2003 outright and then buying 15 User CALs. I don't really want to do that, as it will cost over $1000 just to make sure our applications can handle the load when more than 10 users are connected. Currently we have them on XP licenses and they are limited to 10 users per server. This has been fine in the past but we are having more customers requesting server capacity increase since hardware is so cheap now.

So can anyone confirm or deny that if I have a technet subscription I can test out 2003 with > 10 users or am I limited to whatever meager amount of CALs come with a stock 2003 install?

Me either, was just wondering if I hadnt looked in the right place. There's plenty of articles on technet about Expression just doesn't seem to be a down-loadable part of it.

I purchased last Saturday and still haven't been able to activate the subscription. Anyone else having that problem?
 
I had a quick problem but it was me entering the wrong data. Whatever is entered for your billing info is what your technet info is. And that's where my benefits number was, not in the email they sent.

You'll get an email from them once it's actually activated. Mine took about a week. The date of the sub actually starts once they approve it... Not from the date you place the order.
 
I called them today and they said they are having issues with subscriptions right now and to basically keep trying or they offered to call me. don't know if its bs or not though
 
Been going back and forth for a couple days on this LOL Can't decide wether to spend the 265 or just stick with 50 dollar Windows 7 upgrade. I could use Office but don't really need it. Does anyone know when the next edition of Office is supposed ot be released? Is it within the next year?
 
well a few days have past and still can't activate. Guess my $$$ was just a loan to Microsoft.

Hope they get this crap fixed soon or give us some way to activate outside of their broke ass activation system. /rant

Interesting - I just went ahead and did the sub using the last discount code posted above. No problems- paid via credit card, it gave me my sub number. Went directly back to technet and selected to add my sub, it asked for my first and last name, email address and sub number. It took it and activated immediately.
 
Yeah, I activated immediately when I purchased last week. Yesterday I received an e-mail stating I needed to activate my account. Weird.

weird. here is what I get.. just tried again a few minutes ago. I used the link provided in my email and used the email address they sent it to.

I thought the same thing too but I googled on the intarweb and it seems others have had similar issues.. but the "fixes" kept on telling me that I should be waiting for some emails to come before I can activate. Some said it took a week. I will call again tomorrow and see if I can get them to escalate it a little bit. I've even tried on other computers and browsers..even though I think it should work explorer since it's their own product.
 
I had trouble registering a business license for TechNet last week. I think their activation server is having some issues or something. I emailed them and the next day my code worked. I really don't know what is going on with the activation process though.
 
Here's what happened to me. My Live ID is a Hotmail email address, but when I signed up I put in my gmail address for my billing info. That's what was holding me back. I was entering my Hotmail one when I should have been entering my gmail one. I never use Hotmail..

you happen to still have the email address?
 
I called them again and they told me the same thing.. that the activation is broken and that I should keep trying. They said it will be hopefully fixed soon. The rep also said there was no way I could get activated manually since I purchased online w/ a credit card. The reps were nice, spoke English, and getting through was pretty quick but its been a pretty poor experience so far otherwise. Wonder how much faster it would get fixed if all of a sudden their technet payments started reversing.

If they are feverishly working on the issue then they should put a message on the screen to let people know that the activation is broke so were not wasting our time...instead of suggesting we just "keep trying" till it works..

Suggest that they add time to your subscription totalling the downtime of their servers for the inconvenience? Sounds like a reasonable request to me.

the sub expires one year from the activation date, not one year from the purchase date....at least that's how mine is ..
 
I purchased last Saturday and still can't activate. I guess I'll wait until tomorrow and call them again. I'm starting to wonder if the best way to fix things is to have the subscribtion cancelled and try it again. It's showed up on my credit card.
 
Sheesh, some people are impatient.

As has been said on other forums and as I've stated previously: This can take a week to activate, UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. If they're having issues then you'll be looking at longer than that!
