Where were you "before" we purchased? :D

It would have been different if I didn't have devs at my office asking me where their iso's are and it would be different if there were some sort of indication that it would take a week to activate. (unless I am blind and missed it) If "functioning normally" is to wait a week for activation.. (I have no problem with that) but then they should say so somewhere, anywhere. I don't think I should have to wait for some random joes forum posts to confirm this.

Wonder how many people would balk if they went to a car dealership, picked out a car, signed the papers, made payment, then for them to be told, oops.. our computers are down.. we don't know when it will be back up.. but you can drive up to the dealership to check up on the progress. Hell my activation email came instantly and never said.. "hey don't click the links below because you need to wait a week before it would work" When I purchase something.. I expect it right then, unless they state otherwise... otherwise I would just wait until it's available or purchase it from somewhere else.

fwiw, they told me to try until friday and give them a call back if it's still not activated by then. Still don't understand why they didn't have a backup plan in place for when digital activations were not working.

Right, but he had planned to use it and that the subscription would work for a few days before he was actually able to activate it, delaying the time of his deployment/productivity/etc..

It's an inconvenience to the user that their system doesn't work and would be more detrimental to a business with plans to use the system in a specified period of time, which has now been delayed because of the activation not working.

Mine activated right away and I was using it immediately, he is being delayed because of his activation not working and that isn't his fault and msft showed nowhere that it would take upwards of a week, and this thread even shows that the majority have been activated right away.
 
Here's the emails you get. I think the website itself also says something about activation, too... But at any rate it was pretty clear to me (being I, you know, read all the information) that it would be awhile before they actually activated it.

huh? Testing is exactly what were doing. Our devs requested that we begin testing our application and hardware for 64bit, vista and win7 compatibility. And I personally have a couple of HSM's that I need to test for compatibility with 2008 server. This "is" what technet is for right? I never said anything about deploying anything. Plus why would every MS rep that I speak with say that the activation system is down when all they would have to say is .. it's gonna take a week before you can activate. I also recieved pm's from others having the same issue so good thing it's not just me. Besides the red underlining in the email above doesn't give any hint that you have to wait to activate. It just says you will get more program info later (whatever that means) If you have to wait to activate with the links they provide.. they should just include those links with the second email instead.

Ah, I misunderstood, I thought that you meant he would get less than a year of service...thus asking about an extension.

I wasn't thinking about the inconvenience part of it.
 
It doesn't let you try to activate or you never get the activation e-mail? Cause I remember I was able to use my account right after putting the code in, but my activation confirmation didn't come in till 2 days later.

I signed up this past Saturday, so it's basically been 4 days+ now. I got the first email, but not that second one. When I've called I get told they're still having problems, but obviously people have signed up after me and activated no problem.
 
Mine just activated officially yesterday. I bought it on the 19th. It registers as activated on the 19th I dunno why it took so long but I am looking forward to a year of fun!

Hopefully mine will activate soon. wonder if cancelling the order and ordering again would be faster.

I ordered and was able to access all areas instantly. I did have to remove my 06/01/09 'subscription' though.
 
I was able to activate my subscription today, so hopefully it now also works for the others that were having issues. I still haven't received that second email, but that doesn't really matter.
 
still no go for me. I will give until this weekend. I will cancel my order on Monday if activation doesn't happen by then and reorder since people signing up now don't seem to have an issue.

any Microsoft reps on these forums?
 
Are these technet downloads full versions, just like retail or upgrade versions or some mumbo jumbo like that? Or will I see things like evaluation version in the bottom corner or something similar to that? Can someone confirm this please

Guys are you saying that for technet subscribers full version of windows 7 ultimate and other versions will be available on August 7th? Well before the 22th of October release?

Am I able to use the extra keys on different machines such as my father computer and my netbook?

The keys that you use never expire correct? SO say i download Windows 7 ultimate and used 2 keys, after my sub is up i wont be able to download anything and get any keys, but will i be able to use the 2 keys for 7 over and over after my sub is up?

I dont mean keep on my machine and keep using it, i mean after i reformat 20 times and keep using the same 2 keys. Is that possible? Is that how it works?
 
If you're worried about keys, when they become available, just generate your allotment for the given version of Windows 7 and store them someplace, keep 'em safe for future use, etc. You paid for 'em, I'm guessing, so...

But yes, the keys are good "forever" basically. The keys on TechNet (for the majority of subscribers with the basic TechNet Plus Direct subscription) are Retail license keys, and yes you can re-use them again and again for activations - if you hit a snag, a phone call to Microsoft will always get you up and running again, potentially with a new key (which then causes the original to be deactivated from that point on).

Perhaps you should have changed your CC address to another state.....then change it back, along with your sub address after the charge has cleared....or is that wrong ;)

I suspect it will not show up any earlier than 11AM central and probably no earlier than noon.
Redmond=Pacific Time. I assume those guys, generally, don't go to work before 8 (possibly 9) in the morning. Give them half an hour to down some caffeine and another to update the web.

Then watch technet and MSDN slow to a crawl while everyone downloads 7 ;)
 
It's gonna be nasty, but I have to wait until I get home from work. Hopefully I can avoid some of the congestion.

Same here.

They didn't have too much trouble with the release candidate download, and that was open to the public. They should be able to handle the Technet crowd.
