Just confirming I can indeed replace the 4GB single stick with an 8GB stick on the HP 15-da0007ds laptop. No reason it shouldn't work right? To be safe, should I order a confirmed compatible stick? Girlfriend has the celeron model which only supports one stick and a max of 8GB apparently.
Thanks!
Hey guys. I put this in General HW since I'm thinking it's PSU related but could be other hardware. So Installed an EVGA SuperNOVA GT 650w (with 'auto' eco mode), and after a couple days I am noticing a sound in my system. It's like something is 'revving up', almost like a tiny motor, then a...
I installed a new EVGA SuperNOVA GT 650W. It's got that auto ECO mode; there is no switch for it on the unit that I can see. It's been silent so far, other than when I ran benchmarks
The problem keyboard is the HyperX Alloy FPS from 2016. I just got around to opening it recently.
My dependable old one is a Saitek Cyborg V. Might be madcatz nowadays, I don't remember.
It's the Alloy FPS according to the box. Doesn't say pro on box. Mine's got blue switches and a USB port on the back. Red lighting only, full-size. It's from 2016, the original model I believe. I attached some images of the cable and other contents.
Yea the cable looks good. It is one of those braided sleeved cables. Everything is brand new too. Well, I've had it for a few years but just decided to use it. Works on another PC (which is even older).
OK i checked that and it's all looking flush. I did that on my first computer build; I...
That's interesting; I never knew that. Thanks!
I bet the two USB ports next to the ps/2 m/kb port are meant for the input devices. That would make sense anyway. I always have my mouse/keyboard plugged into those top two ports. This extra cable though I just stuck in the next available port...
this one is a single mini usb split into two standard USB ends. Sorry if I explained it wrong :)
So I tried it on another old computer and it booted fine.
Also if I hold the power button for a second while booting it starts up. This leads me to believe it is just taking some extra juice to...
That was 70+ in the bios idling. In windows I idle around 38-40 now. Hovers around 50 if I'm scrolling or whatever. Temps still high if i am under heavy load but it's been stable. I only hit 95 when I run cinebench or something similar.
Thanks for the tip on the CPU power cables. I'll leave...
It boots with one of the USB cables plugged in (the one with the computer graphic on the plug), but not both (the other one has a lightning bolt on it). The lights work fine with just the one cable. Keyboard works fine with one cable also. It's just to power the additional USB port on the...
I have the hyperfx alloy fps (the one with the red-only backlighting). When I plug both the normal USB cable and the auxillary cable into the mobo's ports, the computer will not turn on. It will spin the fans for a nanosecond and fail to turn on. Is it somehow drawing too much power? Boots fine...
I also get a quiet 'electrical' sound from the speakers when the processor is spiking (moving a window or hovering over a youtube thumbnail for example).. :p
OK pendragon1, so in Zandronum when I set it to cap fps at 35 via cl_capfps, the whining stopped. I was curious so i undid that and displayed my FPS. There is a separate cvar, vid_maxfps which is set to 400. However, i was showing 800-2000 FPS during the whine. Apparently the maxfps variable is...
My PC sometimes makes hissing or whining sounds, emanating from some piece of hardware. It's hard to tell if it's the processor or the PSU or what. It happens in certain situations while I am doing something on the PC (but not necessarily maxing out the cpu). For example, i was playing brutal...
Hmm. thanks for the advice. I'm a little nervous since I've never tweaked voltage before. What is offset? I have the 1.10 BIOS on my asrock phantom gaming 4 b550 a/c. In the manual it seems to have voltage / vcore op;tions in multiple sections.
I thought i read in that long post by the AMD guy...
So My temps have been going up to 95 under load while benching with cinebench r20 or prime95. They get there in under a minute. My idle is around 40, and under load my power deviation is showing 93% as you can see in the screenshot. Any way to fix this or make my chip run actually at stock? I'm...
Yea, just updating thread :). I hope it works out. Or at least that nothing happens to the rest of the system. I'm still amazed by the quality of the box it came in.
Good morning gurus. I have a handful of questions on my new system.
System build (Newegg link)

1. Put together a machine with a Ryzen 5 3600 sitting in an ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4, using stock AMD cooler. I have the stock fan in the Phanteks P300 in the rear, and two CM 140mm fans...
I had run it from ~2009 to 2016, then it's been sitting in a box :)
Thanks for the tips guys, i will dust it safely and give it a go.
GotNoRice if I get the urge i'll just chew on a AA battery or something :)
It had a decent life. It was in a smoke-free home, and i dusted regularly as well as I could without opening PSU. It's been sitting in my old system which hasn't been turned on since 2016 while i was away. I kept it on all day usually in the colder months, and off while i was at work in the...
I have a Corsair HX520W Modular PSU, and am wondering if it's compatible with a new build, and if it's better than the PSU I've selected? I think it is, but i have been out of the game for years. The indicated build is within my budget.
Old PSU
New Build
Thanks :)
for some reason I thought they wouldn't if i plugged them directly into the mobo (since my case has hotswap bays with another connection in-between. Thanks :)
I don't understand why I am getting more stuttering in CSGO menu's, and random pauses when changing rooms in binding of isaac now that...
Hello. I have no clue if AHCI mode is properly working on my SSD. I don't even know why it's so confusing for me, it's the one thing that I haven't figured out.
My mobo is an old Gigabyte MA790GPT-UD3H. I have an intel SSD 530 series.
I enabled AHCI in the BIOS as instructed in the...
I'd like to play my pinball games in portrait mode, without getting another monitor. My ASUS vh236h is VESA mount compatible as far as i know. Are there any monitor mounts that will clamp to the back of my desk and allow me to rotate the monitor on a daily basis with no hassle? I wouldn't want...
Greetings friends. I'm researching a PC build for a family member, that I am going to build. I haven't followed the hardware scene too closely in the last 5 years as I only really delve in when I'm ready to build a new system or upgrade. I'd like some suggestions. Basically looking to...
Hello folks. I have been using an intel 530 series 240GB SSD as my main (windows and games) drive for a couple months. I recently learned I am supposed to run in AHCI mode, so i enabled that on my Gigabyte MA790GPT-UD3H mobo and reinstalled etc. All is well.
In the intel Solid-State Drive...
@cyclone3d, interesting thanks. How can i tell if the DPI is changing? The mouse doesn't gain or lose any sensitivity, so I assume that means it isn't working?
@jiminator, I will try that right now!
Hello! I have been using a CM Storm Xornet mouse for a couple years. The website says it can switch between 500, 1000, 2000 DPI. In the specs it lists a 1000hz polling rate.
Now, I never installed the software and opted for the default microsoft driver when I plug the mouse in. Does this mean...
The_crashmaster thanks for the info. Geforce 6-7 cards are different than Geforce 600 or 700 series i assume? My upgrade path has been Geforce 2 -> Geforce 4 ti -> Geforce GTS250 -> Geforce GTX750 Ti, so you can see i haven't really followed the releases until i needed to upgrade ancient tech :)
yea, and the weird part is the 345.20 are dated Feb 24 2015, as are the 341.44. But I ended up getting 347.52, dated Feb 10 2015. I am confused but assume latest version number trumps release date if all I want is the most up to date driver.
