I have an old GeForce II card in my linux box and the fan is LOUD. Without purchasing a new heatsink/fan for it, what can I do to quiet it down? Can I undervolt the fan? If so, how?
Thanks.
I"ve got the D620 and I'm happy with it. Mine has a dedicated graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro) and I'm able to play Battlefield 2 with decent settings. As for battery life, I haven't run it out in one sitting, so I'm not sure. I've got the 6-cell battery and I'd say it's good for 2.5-3.5 hours...
I've got the d620 with the Quadro NVS 110 and the only game I've tried is Battlefield 2. I can play Battlefield 2 on 1024x768 with low settings no problem, and even medium settings, but it's jumpy due to only having 1 GB of RAM. If I were to get 2 GB it would have no problem with medium settings.

I went with the ThermalRight SI-97A and a Panaflo L1BX fan, in my opinion is the best as far as Socket A goes.
I have 2 computers and want to use 1 monitor, keyboard, and mouse for both of them. The monitor isn't an issue since it has 2 inputs, but I also have a PS/2 keyboard and a USB mouse. I was thinking about just buying a KVM switch, but since I don't really need the monitor connection I thought...
You're not alone, I'm stuck at 240x10 using 1.45v. I've gone as high as 1.62v and my processor fails prime at 260x10 and 250x10. I've played with the memory dividers, memory timings, different BIOS versions, etc, and still can't get higher than 2400 Mhz.
One thing you can try is to use the...
You're not the only one. I can reach 2300 Mhz with the stock voltage, but at 2400 Mhz I have to bump it up to 1.45v. After that, no matter how much voltage I give the processor my computer isn't stable at any higher Mhz.
How much better is the 700Cu than the 700AlCu? Is it really worth $10 more?
Also, I assume you use Arctic Silver on the heatsink, so do I follow the Arctic Silver 5 application instructions that I used for my CPU?
Other than a drop in temps, what kind of benefits will I see with this...
Other than the increased clock/memory speed on the extreme edition, is there any other difference? Should I be able to OC my Leadtek 6600GT TDH to the extreme version's clock/memory speed?
If so, what would you consider acceptable idle/load temps for the GPU? Mine idles around 47C now.
As stated below, if you're stable and don't plan to overclock anymore, might as well leave it. Otherwise I'd drop the LDT down to 4x, it won't hurt performance.
I just used the stock fans. Since I don't have anything in the bottom chamber, I pulled the fan from there and swapped it with the top exhaust fan, then used that fan as an intake fan. If you set all the fans to low, it's pretty quiet.
For those of you with the Antec P180, did you install a 120mm fan in the front middle slot? If so, did it help much with temps inside the case? I did a comparison with the case open and closed and found there's only a few degrees difference. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to buy a...
I'm just about to assemble my computer with an A64 3200+ (Venice) and am a little confused on applying the Arctic Silver 5. If I'm reading these instructions right, I'm not supposed to put any Arctic Silver 5 on the heatsink and rub it in? I guess it only applies to previous versions of Arctic...
What do you guys think of this x800XL card?

Should I spend an extra $40 and get ATI, ASUS, or MSI from newegg? Does anyone know how loud these cards are? I'm trying to build a quiet PC and haven't heard...
Update:
I replaced the battery on my motherboard a few months ago and up until 2 days ago everything was fine. Now my computer is having the same problem in addition to randomly rebooting in Windows every once in a while. Any ideas?
I have the same problem and have yet to find a fix for it. It has to be software related because I don't notice it in Linux. To reduce the mouse lag, go tto:
Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot
Then move the slider bar one notch to the left of "Full". That seems...
Have you checked out Razerzone ? They have updated drivers on their web site along with installation instructions. I had problems installing the one that came on the CD, so I got a newer driver from the web site and they work okay.
Here's my prospective system:
AMD 64 3200+ (Venice)
XP-90 w/ Panaflo Fan
DFI Lanparty Ultra-D nF4
OCZ Platinum Rev2 1 GB (2x512)
Leadtek PX6600GT
I'm aiming for a relatively quiet system, which PSU would you go with:
Fortron Source AX500A 500 Watt Blue Storm...
Does anyone know how loud the fan is that comes with the retail Athlon 64 3200+ Venice? I want to build a faily quiet system and can't decide whether to stick with the retail or go with an XP-90 & a Panaflo fan. I don't plan to overlclock, I'm just wondering which is quieter.
My computer is roughly 3-4 years old and here are the specs:
Athlon XP 1800+
Asus A7V266-E Motherboard
2x256 MB PC2100 Corsair RAM
Enermax 350 Watt PS
A few days ago when I turned on my computer, the monitor never came out of sleep mode and all I heard was an infinite number of POST...
It appears to be getting worse now and happens more frequently. Now occasionally the top and bottom of my screen will randomly shrink and expand, it's strange. I'm not sure if it's an interference problem either, when it starts shaking I hit the side of my monitor it fixes itself for 10 - 20...
Well I tried the flashlight trick and sure enough I can barely see the on screen display, so I guess it is the backlight that went out. Is it possible to get this fixed? Does it cost more than it's worth?
Thanks for the replies guys. I don't think it's a refresh/resolution problem seeing as I didn't change anything and the monitor has been working for the past few months with the same configuration. I'll give the flashlight trick a try though.
I've got an HP L1800 LCD that's a few years old and just yesterday I lost all picture on it. The monitor still turns on and off, and even goes into sleep mode when I turn off my PC so I know it's detecting the signal from the computer. I can't even get the on screen display to change the...
I've had an NEC FE991SB monitor now for a couple years and recently my monitor's display has started shaking erratically at random times. It's not the "shaking" that occurs when the refresh rate is set to low, but a much more noticeable "shake" on a slightly larger scale and completely random...
I've got an old set of Boston Acoustic 2.1 speakers plugged into an old Sound Blaster Live card and noticed sometimes when my computer is off the speakers will make a constant popping noise. Also sometimes when the heater in my apartment kicks on the speakers go nuts and make a loud humming...
