I plan on upgrading the Dell laptop in my sig from a stock hdd to an SSD. My question is: If I use the Windows create restore disk function, will it make the needed adjustments for using the SSD (plus setting the drive to use AHCI?)? I am referring to alignment, and any other issues.
Newegg has an special with a EVGA P67 SLI Micro 120 and a 2500k for $250 after MIR. Any experience with that motherboard? A few comments on newegg are not flattering, but people rarely post good reviews.
Sorry about posting in the incorrect forum.

I am new to Access, and not that experienced with anything other than the basics in Office at that. I have created a database (for lack of a better term) that has 4 tables. I want to create a macro that will sort by two of the columns; the Add Job column, and the...

I currently use a C2Q 6700, Win7 64-bit, 4GB ram, and a radeon 4850 512mb video card @ 1080p resolution. My question is, would it be beneficial to upgrade to a video card of similar performance, but more video ram? IE GTX 550Ti 1 or 2gb, 6850 1 or 2 gb, or a 7770 over the existing 4850. I would...
A co-worker of mine has requested my help recovering her laptop from a nasty virus infection. Here are the details, and what I have done so far:
* System would boot/access the net, but showed no program shortcuts on the desktop and start menu. It would throw up a million dialog boxes about...
I am able to purchase discounted Microsoft products through the public school system I work for (not as good as the student discounts, but the best I have seen for staff). My question is with this license, am I able to install it on one home pc, AND one laptop? I cannot find any reference to...
Would one of these... mid range cards (6670, 5570, geforce 450, etc with 1gb) be much of an upgrade for a radeon x1900xt 512mb card @ 1900x1080? My wife plays EverQuest2, and she is getting lag, and choppiness. She has a C2D e4600 2.4ghz cpu with 4gb ram. Any thoughts?
I am looking to upgrade the wife's computer without spending much. Looking at the specs, these two CPUs seem like basically the same, with just bus speed, and cpu speed differences. She plays Everquest 2, and from most statements I have read, CPU speed is more important than more cores (EQ2 is a...
I currently use an emachines m6805 laptop (wife used it for years as an additional "desktop", but I am using it for work now). I would like to replace it, but would like to stay in the$400-500
range. I will not be doing any heavy duty gaming (EQ2, WoW, HL2, casual games). These are most of my...
Are netbooks (Asus, MSI, Acer, Dell, ect..) any more durable than lower end laptops? I don't think I have read much, if anything about how they hold up (chassis, hinges, ect.).
I have an emachines m6805 laptop, and the keyboard has several keys that either do not register anything, or type the incorrect character. My question is: Is this a hardware issue (replace keyboard?), or some sort of software issue?
I have a gigabyte s939 motherboard with an X2 4400+ cpu. The powersupply died (squealing, high pitched whine, and the psu fan not running), and the system would spin up the fans, but not post. No beeps, nothing. I replaced the psu, and still cannot get the system to post. Could the dead psu have...
I seem to have that worm.win32.sky thing (think it is something else, basically a massive attempt to get you to buy someones fake virus protection), and wondered if anyone had delt with it. Does it infect all your files, or just do it's thing from one file? I am wondering if anything I backup...
I am upgrading a computer I built for my Mom (new mobo, cpu, ram), and need to save the roughly 5 thousand games she has downloaded. Many of these no longer have a setup file, as she choose to run the installer from the web rather than save it and then run it. I may have luck searching the temp...
I built my Mom a computer using some parts left over from a system of mine. It is an Athlon XP 1800+ on an Epox 8RDA nforce2 motherboard. Lately, she has been having issues where it seems only 2 out of three things work; those being sound, printer, and lan. She says they will not work together...
The manual is a little confusing, it doesn't seem that I will need the floppy disk, just set the IDE/SATA to IDE instead of Raid, or ACH(something..). It sounds to me like XP should recognize the drive. Any experience with this board and using a single SATA boot drive? Thanks in advance.
I have installed Win XP to one of two hard drives, the other (with data I want to keep) has Win98 SE, and is set as a slave. When booting with only one drive, XP loads fine, but if the other drive is connected, XP will not finish loading (98 does not load, neither does any bootloader options)...
If a hard drive is disabled, would virus', spyware ect be able to infect it? I would like to setup a couple of windows installations (and/or Linux), and wonder if I disable a drive or partition from within the OS, can it be written to? I am considering running one gaming setup, one for browsing...
Often, when starting, or restarting my system, it will stop responding for about one minute during post. It sometimes happens right before it IDs the CPU, sometimes right after. I have upgraded to the latest bios (F8), loaded optimized defaults (several times), and disconnected all IDE/SATA...
I just put together a K8NSC-939 board with an X2 4400+ and 4x 512mb PQI dimms. With all four dimms in, or with slot 1 and 2 populated, I get one long beep, and no post. With slots 1 and 3 populated, it will post, but then I get the message "Memory not optimized", and it says to check the manual...
During the boot process, if I press F8, I get a choice of devices to boot from, such as my 3 hard drives, the dvd drive, and the floppy drive. I do not get the option to choose "Normal", "Safe Mode", "Safe Mode with Network..blah blah". My question is, what is this menu called, and can I get it...
I just bought a refurbished K8N-e board from newegg, and as expected, it had only the board in the box. No biggie, I had downloaded all the files listed for the board from the Asus website, and the system seems to be running fine. However, I would like to find a way to either order, or download...
Anyone have any experience with the difference between a s939 3000+ and a s939 3200+? Does the additional 200mhz make much of a difference? I don't plan on doing very much OC'ing, if any. I am looking for a videocard upgrade, but dont want to buy an agp card, so I will be replaceing a P4c 2.4 +...

I have seen inflated prices, but dang! Most of the attraction of this card is the supposed $299 price. At $549.....no way. I'm sure it will change soon, it is just depressing.
Does this board have SATA Raid, or not? Under the detail description on Newegg, is states NA for Raid, but on the Epox's site, there are nVidia raid drivers (may be generic chipset drivers). This looks like a good board at a great price (I don't plan on much, if any OC'ing), but I need sata...
I have an eMachines M6805 laptop computer with built-in 802.11g wireless networking. I have two PCs connected to a D-Link DI-624 Wireless Broadband Router through wired connections, and the laptop connected wirelessly. My issue is that my connection drops every few minutes (regardless of...
Is it possible to buy a version that doesn't require you to activate it? Similar to the hacked version of XP one could find a year or so ago. I am not asking about a hacked version though, I want a legal version, just one that I don't have to activate :D
Are there programs that will let me backup a Win XP Pro installation on a raid 0 volume to dvd-r? I would like to do this post activation. I just want to be able to do a quick reinstall, keeping my current settings. This is not to work around copy protection or anything. I have a legit cd of XP...
