Since this is a system that I want to build once and hopefully never touch afterwards, I'm perfectly happy with older chipsets that are mature and proven. I went ahead and ordered the Corsair SF450 PSU and ASRock B450 Gaming-ITX/ac motherboard. That little motherboard even has the extra PWM fan...
Thanks for the info. The SF450 looks great. For the motherboard, what about an A520 chipset on this cheaper, non-overclocked build?
Edit: Hmm.. looks like A520 does not support the Ryzen 5 3400G CPU. Disregard.
Like the title says, I'm building a relatively low-power PC for my in-laws to replace their older, garbage pre-built. I already have a Ryzen 5 3400G new in box with factory cooler. I also have 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz CL16 DDR4 DIMMs and a 500GB Evo 860 2.5" SSD from prior builds. I'm...
Thanks for the info. To get back to the 3600MHz with 14-15-15-15-35 timings I did indeed to have to manually set the DDR voltage up to 1.50 with the 5900X, unlike with the 3600. The SOC was already bumped up. It seems odd that I'd need to push the voltage up that high to get those timings at...
The temps are about the same as with the prior CPU but I'll check those things again to be sure. I am not letting it use XMP of 4266MHz so I can keep the 1:1:1 ratios that worked fine with the 3600.Thanks!
I'm have been running this 32GB kit at 3600MHz with 14-15-15-35 timing for a couple weeks with my Ryzen 5 3600 and Dark Rock Pro 4 air cooler on an MSI X570 Unify board (latest BIOS).

I got my Ryzen 9 5900X today and...
It may be able to handle the job, but it won't do it as effectively or as quietly as even a relatively cheap cooler. I have used a couple of these Hyper 212 EVO V2 coolers now and they seem really great for the price.
I just had a Newegg combo with a 5900X and memory pop up as available, so grabbed it even though I didn't need the memory. As an added bonus, the memory was then out of stock so it let me remove that from the order and place the order for just the 5900X alone! Hope it actually ships! :)
Still...
I've seen the Best Buy add to cart several times for the 5900X now and it gives me the "one more step" message that says to try again. It still isn't adding or giving any more instructions. What am I missing?
I almost bowed to the pressure of just buying a 5800X instead of continuing to try for my preferred 5900X. I wish those would go ahead and sell out again to take away this temptation. :)
My Tiger Direct order for the 5900X now shows cancelled. I talked to their support via chat today to ask about the "Pending Review" status. I was assured that they were processing orders and it would change status to processing within one to two days and would be shipped when it was available...
The confirmation mail from my B&H pre-order for a 5900X was at 10:55PM Pacific on 11/4 (so 1:55AM Eastern time on 11/5). I got the "January to March" email update on 11/10. We should probably separate out B&H pre-orders by CPU to avoid confusion. I'd guess that anyone who hasn't gotten an email...
I ordered this 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 4266 CL17 kit yesterday... just in time to get the notice from B&H today saying my 5900X pre-order won't get filled until next year.

Yep, this and for the same reason. My Unify should be here courtesy of NewEgg in a couple days. Since the 5000 series procs don't have built-in graphics to use the HDMI port on the X570 Tomahawk anyway, you might as well get the extra M.2 slot with the Unify and not have to spend time trying to...
As the title says, I'm wondering whether there's anything actually better about the X570 Tomahawk other than the lower price and the HDMI-out? With the hype around the 5000-series CPU launch and its well-deserved reviews, the X570 Tomahawk seems to be unobtanium. I don't expect to ever need the...
Just an FYI here.. Newegg has a special now for 15% off all Western Digital internal 3.5" hard drives. The promo code is EMCNBHG38 and it doesn't look to be one of those that only works for a specific account like some Newegg codes. It says that it's good through 8/25 or sooner based on fund...
I'm upgrading an older machine that my kids use, so $80 shipped (with no rebate to deal with) is about as high as I'm willing to go. Is there anything out there that is better than today's Shellshocker deal for $79.99?
AMD 633897-ZH1 Radeon HD 6770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Video...
I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore, but occasionally play games and do some video watching and lightweight editing. I'd like a little better video performance than the Geforce 9500GT can push. My current system is set up as mostly a workstation machine that I can do everything from system...
One of my two old 19" Benq monitors died (for the second time) and I want to replace it and the other one with two of the same model. Money is pretty tight right now, so my ideal price range for both monitors is about $350 with an absolute upper limit of $400 total including shipping and/or tax...
Thanks for the replies so far. Here's some info that may help with further replies.
- This is an HP 8510W laptop, with only one bay for 2.5" HD, which had the M4 SSD in it
- There isn't an option in the BIOS for IDE/AHCI/RAID selection or most of the other stuff I expect with my systems
-...
I just got a new Crucual M4 SSD for my laptop and am installing Win7 today. Looking around, I've found a ton of ssd optimization guides for Windows 7 but most of them are from 2009 or early 2010. Anyone have a newer one that is up-to-date for Win7 SP1 and the latest generation of SSD drives? Thanks!
I actually ordered the M4 though Zones at work for $213 yesterday. Not sure when I'll get it, though, as ordering it through work for my work laptop always takes too long but the corporate discount is nice.
Thanks, all. Just to reiterate, if it's not SATA3, I won't be considering it. This drive will be in this laptop for a few months at most, and then will be in either a new laptop or a desktop that will surely be able to do SATA3.
I have a C300 in my home desktop and it's been flawless. Looking to the new gen drives to see what else is out there too, though. Priorities for this drive are:
1) Reliability: I will be earning a living with this laptop, so it has to work
2) Speed: Everything from standard Office apps to...
I am picking up a new SSD drive for my laptop and am targeting 128GB or so due to price and disk usage. Are there any good comparisons out there anywhere that show performance/power usage in that size and price bracket? Anyone else gone through the same sort of decision and have experience to...
