My sister called me today with a problem with her PC. She lives a long way from me, so it makes troubleshooting her issue a bit difficult.
She has an HP Omen 30L-GT13 desktop that she bought last June. Today it started acting up, when she first noticed some "black pixels" on her monitor. Then...
I have an update from Velocity Micro, they now say they can RMA my CPU to AMD, but that it may take some time to get the replacement. So that is a relief, assuming it doesn't take months. I don't have $700 to just pay for a part that is under warranty.
It seems a little odd they didn't offer...
Thanks....you give me hope....it does seem odd for a cpu to fail. I have not overclocked this system at all, and the CPU is liquid cooled. This is the first prebuilt I have bought in YEARS. I think my first was a Gateway I bought in the late 90's. Otherwise, I have built my systems, and have...
Thanks for the info....and man does that hurt. I would still want them to replace it, as I want them to test it to make sure that is the only problem. I wonder if I could buy the proc from Amazon and ship it to their repair department? I doubt they would allow that though....
What stinks is...
Everything I have read indicates the warranty is 3 years for AMD processors, but they always say as part of their "Processor in a box" program.
Is the warranty the same for a system I purchased from a business such as Velocity Micro? I bought one of their systems 2 years ago, and it has the...
My situation has changed with my PC since my last post, so I thought I would provide an update in case it is of any help to anyone.
The BIOS update I made to my system "fixed" the problem for a few weeks, then the same problem started creeping in again. Finally in January it got to the point...
Call me clueless, but I just recently discovered the existence of NVMe M.2 adaptors (from a response in another thread of mine). I have an ASUS ROG Crosshair Hero VIII motherboard and Ryzen 5950X CPU for my sytem. I already have 2 M.2 drives slotted into the motherboard.
I have a spare M.2...
I wanted to provide an update for those who responded or are following this thread.
I called and spoke to Scott at Velocity Micro today, and he had already read this thread, so he was aware of what I had tried with my system to date. That impressed me right off the bat.
We discussed my PC's...
Just an update - I made a USB Windows 10 boot drive this morning, and attempted to start the computer. It does the exact same thing as before, it gets past the BIOS splash screen, and the circle of dots start to spin then it freezes. I am not able to reinstall Windows. I will be calling Velocity...
Unfortunately, my old PC is about 10 years old, and does not have an NVMe slot, and until your question, I didn't even think about there being an adapter. I would have to order one to try.
Wow, thanks Velocity_Micro!!
I was going to call, but things went way south Thanksgiving day, and I tried some basic troubleshooting Friday morning. By the time I posted here, I had thought about calling but it was already mid-afternoon on a Friday after Thanksgiving! I will give you a call...
Ok, I will do that tomorrow. I probably was not super clear in my first post....I can set my BIOS to boot from a DVD drive, and it does start to work from the DVD. It will bring up the blue windows logo, and the DVD drive is working. A circle of dots pop up and start to spin, then they freeze...
I would do that if I could get the Windows DVD to boot. The system gets to the same point booting from the DVD. The DVD should give me the option for a reinstall I think, if it would just boot.
The motherboard does have an NVMe self-test, and I am running the extended test right now. However, I tried booting from the Windows DVD with both NVMe drives removed from the motherboard (one at a time) and it still stuck at the same spot. I don't have memtest on a bootable flash drive right...
Thanks for replying! Yes, I was using the 2nd and 4th slots. I just finished trying the memory modules 1 at a time in the 2nd slot, all with the same result. The debug LED Q-code ends up at AA when it sticks. According to my ASUS manual, AA is reserved for ASL, and under ASL 0xAA says "System...
Hello, I have a Velocity Micro PC that is about 18 months old. The motherboard is an ASUS ROG Crossfire VIII Hero, the CPU is an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, with 32 gigs of RAM, a Firecuda 520 NVMe boot drive, along with a Western Digital storage HDD, and a Western Digital Black NVMe SSD. The OS is...
The data will not be that important. It would primarily be games, most of which can be re-downloaded if needed. Photos and docs would be backed up to USB drive, or I have a smaller external storage drive that I could use.
I am not "with it" enough to have even thought about your suggestion of...
Thank you very much for the advice. I have read good things about the WD Blue drives, but was hoping for a 7200 rpm drive, and the WD Blue 4tb is 5400. I am glad you told me about that Barracuda.
Hello, I am running out of storage space on my PC, and would like to get a 2 - 4 TB storage drive. My primary use is for games, and photos. I have had my current machine for a few years, and in that time I added a couple of smaller SSD's (bought a long time ago, one is 512 GB, the other 128)...
I plan to build a new system sometime in the future. The 2060 will be here in a couple of days, and fingers crossed, I will get a boost out of it. From the link amenx listed, it looks like the 2060 should provide a decent upgrade.
I should be able to. I OC'd a bit when I first got everything, then turned everything down to stock and have ran it stock ever since. I will give that a shot too once I get the card.
I ordered a 2060 from newegg...from some of the things I read, it sounds like the 2060 does very well at 2560x1440. I will run it a while to see if any issues, then try to sell my 970.
Cool...thanks. That was my main concern that I would not realize much of a performance jump by getting a new card. I plan to eventually build a new system, but not for a while.
Thanks for the responses. I am a little hesitant to buy used, but have been looking this afternoon here and ebay.
If I get a 1070 or Vega 56 or even a 2060, will my CPU be an issue though? I built the system in 2012, and then added the 970 in 2014. It still runs great, just would like some...
I recently started thinking of upgrading my video card (Gigabyte GTX 970) after helping my nephew build a new system.
My CPU is the I5 - 3570K.
I started researching cards, and it appears the best bang for your buck cards now are the RX 570/RX580 and the RTX2060. I know there are a few of the...
That is a good question, and one I have been pondering since yesterday, in addition to the motherboard choice. I guess it is because the general consensus is the I5 is a great "bang for your buck" CPU for gaming, and it seems to have a reputation for good overclocks. I am now considering the I7...
Thanks for the feedback. As I indicated at the bottom of my post, I am not keeping my current system, I plan to sell it to my nephew, so I need a new system. I haven't done a whole lot of research on HSF's yet, so thanks for the input there. I was thinking liquid cooling would be the way to go...
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming mainly, FPS (Far Cry 3, Arma 3, BF4), Tomb Raider, MMO's and strategy games
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1500 for the parts I need. I already have a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming, and...
Sorry, that would be good information to have...:o....and thanks for the responses!
My budget would be up to $150, and I really would like to have a fully modular PSU.
I will check out the units you guys mentioned, thanks again!
I am planning a new build, and am considering the ASUS ROG Maximus Fomula VII for the mobo, along with the I5-4690k. I was looking for RAM, and was thinking of this:
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR3 1866.

It gets good...
Thanks....I tried a brand new DVI cable, with same results, taking 3-4 tries to get a signal. I then tried moving the card to the 2nd card slot, with the DVI cable, same result. I then put the card back to the original slot, and tried an HDMI cable, and so far it has worked several times in a...
So I bought a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming card from my local Microcenter a couple of nights ago. After an issue with a game, I did a complete uninstall of the prior drivers, and did a clean install of the latest Nvidia driver. That fixed the problem I was having with the game.
Now, I have a...
I am in the planning stages of a new build. I am strongly considering the Asus ROG Maximus Formula VII, because of the excellent reviews it has received, mainly because of its excellent on-board sound. Plus I think it looks cool as hell.
I have never used a ROG board before, and kind of...
I am in the process of putting together a new build. I would like a modular power supply so I can use just the cables I need. I currently have a 2 year old Corsair TX750 which has been great. I will be leaving that in my current system.
The system I am thinking about will use the ASUS...
