Get the Dell S2716DG. $600 on Amazon, and seems to have far better QC than the equivalent Asus or Acer models. Still reports of some lemons, but the S2716DG thread here isn't filled with nearly the hatred the other two are. :)
Plus Dell tends to be much better to deal with for longer term...
Assuming you went from a GSync 1440P panel to this one, was the transition painful from a gaming perspective? I've heard it's tough to give up the GSync fluidity once you've lived with it for a while. Or was the immersiveness of the larger panel enough of an offset?
If you decide to stay 21:9, consider the LG. I got to see both the Dell and LG (UM95) side by side earlier this year at Frys, and while both looked great the LG had better contrast, and seemed to have more motion smoothness, but they were displaying different things. You do pay a premium for...
Keep in mind, this monitor will be $650 on Black Friday. If you have a commercial account or your company buys a lot of stuff from Dell, see if you can get into the MPP page for early access (11/19) to the Black Friday deals.
I was totally confused by your post until I realized that we're all assuming different monitors when just 'Dell' is mentioned. ;) I'm looking at the 27" S2716DG, which has Gsync and is quite a bit faster than the X34, but obviously gives up the ultra-wide form factor. According to Dell's...
Yeah, crap... I think I'll go ahead and try to pick up the Dell on their Black Friday sale and ride it for a good 6 months or so, and see how the prices / models look mid next year.
I'm sure in a couple of years time we'll be sporting thin, fast OLED panels cut to a variety of sizes and...
From that Overclock.net thread, just a bit ago:
Take that for what it's worth, which may not be much given the unverifiable source, but would certainly explain the inability to backorder from any of the big sources.
Vega,
I noticed your 'pit posts over on the DCS forums. My gaming time is split between sims (DCS and BoS) and shooters/RTS, but flight sims are usually what I love the most (and spend the most money on.) Are you flying with the X34, the Swift, or that huge OLED?
I'd love to go larger than...
That was a really good review. I'd thought the XB270HU had made the Swift obsolete, but it sounds like it's not so clear cut.
Unfortunately my gaming hobby is split mainly between FPS (BF4, looking forward to the Doom remake next year, etc.) and Flight Sims (DCS and BoS), so the...
I'm not up on state of the art in OLED tech... what's the transition speed of the OLEDs? Is that 50ms lag a product of early firmware, or is it more a fundamental limitation to the tech itself?
The picture quality prospects are exciting, but I'm not going to get too wrapped up in it myself if...
In the future, there are only resolution wars.
If the Predator is the only larger monitor out at that point or the immediate future with those specs (refresh rate, GSync, etc.), then I'll be in line as well for the *second* batch. The Swift left a bad taste for getting in on the ground...
Thanks for looking into the lag for us. I was initially excited for the Benq version back when it came out, as the size, price point, and resolution all seemed to hit a perfect spot, but the input lag was terrible.
Probably still going to wait for the upcoming 21:9 Gsync panel, but if it has...
Are you referencing the Samsung 40" TV from the other thread? As has been noted before there's a critical issue: DisplayPort. AFAIK, the Phillips has it and the Samsung doesn't. The Seiki has DP but I don't trust that brand at all for a purchase like this at a premium price.
Good topic... same boat. Haven't played at the top FPS competitive level since the Q2 and the early days of Q3 well over 15 years ago (when my reflexes were MUCH better), but I still more than hold my own in a tight BF4 match with a 4 year old TN 26" 19x12 monitor (Asus, funny enough.) I...
This. If you don't care about faster than 60hz response, get a 40" 4K panel and play at UW 1:1 settings, and you'll get the same screen real estate for gaming with a larger display available for productivity / movies / etc.
I was about to ask if this was the same panel as the S34E790C. I'm pretty much sold on the Samsung but was waiting on another $899 sale similar to what I just missed last week.
If I can get the same panel with the same response / behavior from HP for less I'll do it. It's GOT to be capable...
Excellent summation, but where does response time / ghosting fit in? Any differentiation there?
I'd love to pick up a G-Sync panel, but none of the available options are enough of an upgrade in real estate compared to my current monitor (an older 26" 19x12 TN) to make me really want to...
IMHO you'd be better off with a display this large using GPU scaling to output 2560x1440 at 'native' pixel size, with black bars around the image. Or better yet, as has already been noted in the thread, use an ultrawide aspect ratio so you fully render the horizontal with black bars at the top...
I'm sympathetic to the OP on this one, though. I was also fairly keen on the Swift, but the delays and QC issues have robbed it of a lot of it's allure, and the ultrawide curved screen really fits the majority of the gaming I do (flight sims) really well better than a normal panel, so I was...
I'm curious about this... I've got the money to do a major monitor upgrade now (bonus time), but if I wait too long I'll inevitably spend it on something else. I play some medium-fast motion games (light BF4, lots of flight sims, some RTS), and was wondering if I'd regret not going with a GSync...
Curious why you'd say the HP 32 Envy isn't VESA compliant. It doesn't have the bolt holes directly in the back of the monitor, but it does come with a VESA adapter that attaches where the stand goes.
Looking for reviews of the Envy as far as PC use and gaming goes, but haven't found much out...
Exactly. If they were very similar, comparison would be a simple exercise. As it is I want to see both up and running first in order to make the (entirely subjective) call of viewspace immersion vs. motion clarity. I'm a huge flight sim junkie, and the extra width of the UM95 would add a lot...
How could you not post FRYS??? :p Two of the four stores in the DFW area have them on the shelf for pickup right now. All four had it last week when it came out, so they are going fast, but they're still available if you can get to a store.
I'm unfortunately paying big $$ this month for...
I was actually contemplating posting a similar thread to ask specifically if the LN5300 series was still the gold standard in smaller HDTVS for PC monitor use. It's nearly a year old now. Is there anything better in the 32-40" inch range for price/performance?
So close... but the lack of a VESA mount makes it a non starter, and it needs to be 27". I'd pay 30% more for those extra details.
I'd pay more than double if it was 1440.
The G-sync technology is very exciting, but I'm disappointed the first available unit is the 24" and not the 27". It's been hard these last couple of months since getting to play with a LB 278 not to rush out and buy one or one of the Korean overclockable IPS 1440s, but I was waiting for...
I don't suppose there's a site somewhere that tracks 'TV' LCD panels in terms of PC use? Things like input lag, 'raw' input capability (no overscan, 4-4-4, etc.), etc.? I know there's a thread here somewhere that tracked some of that data, but it doesn't appear on the FP anymore so I assume...
Thanks, Mark! I've read your blog extensively, and most recently the article on all TVs identified with overclockable inputs. Nothing out there that combines the smaller size (under 40") with 120Hz input and bonus 4K resolution for desktop work. I was torn between large-format gaming with one...
Any news at all on when that firmware might be forthcoming? That's the one thing stopping me from getting one right now. I'm tempted by the Asus LB monitors, but I'd really like a larger screen.
Do any of the Korean manufacturers make a panel like the QNIX that includes a bypassable scalar and multiple inputs? I'm stuck with multiple conflicting feature desires... my gaming pit is primarily for the PC, but I've also got a 360 and PS3 plugged into my (aging) 25" Asus 19x12. The Titan...
Great post again by Mark. I don't mind the color issues of TN, but the lack of larger formats in LB monitors is tougher. I'd love to see LB in TV sized displays with 120Hz input, but the closest you can get right now is Sony Motionflow.
Any news on firmware updates for the 39"? Waiting on the fix for the 120Hz frame skipping problem at 1080P. I know the 50" doesn't have the issue, but I can't sit 3' from a 50" monitor (max distance I can get in the obutto rev pit.)
I've been following these threads for weeks, trying to decide on picking up the Seiki or waiting a bit more. I was very close to pulling the trigger on the 39" till I heard about the firmware fault regarding 120Hz operation. For anyone with the 50" and some time with fast-twitch games, though...
