Well shit! I ordered all those parts.. and my motherboard's bios wont support the CPU. So i'm pretty much fucked. Won't recognize the CPU at all and I have to get an older processor to upgrade the bios.. not sure what to do now.
That processor and motherboard combo I cannot pass up! Thanks again guys. The only difference is I've kept 2gb of ram instead of 4. Will it make that big of a difference? The computer wont really be used for resource hogs like crysis or other games, mainly WoW, HL2 Engine games, and Diablo 3...
I would but I'm actually loaning all the money to buy this to my brother, because he really needs a new PC.. but he hardly works, so it's going to take a while to get payed back. Haha  I'm pretty sure that looks like a winner though, thanks everyone for your help. I don't think there's...
That build looked real good but with shipping it was a killer.. (280$). I've taken a bit from your suggestions guys, and this is what I've came up with so far. Tell me what you think. (Unfortunately I guess I will have to get a hard-drive with it too, since his is currently fubar).
How's this look? I want to try and go 50$ cheaper.. but I'm having no luck. The main game he really wants to play is WoW.. so I'm not sure if I could cut down on the CPU? Or... hmm..
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
- Gaming
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
- 200$, can go up to 250$ max.
3) Where do you live?
-US
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very...
Hey everyone.. I don't really have any friends that know much about building systems so I figured I'd come here to ask for a bit of help! My brother's computer.. which is a hand-me-down of my first computer I ever built finally is shitting out and I figured he needs a new machine.
I have a...
Well, I've tried bridging the pins with various metal objects.. no luck, all the pins are seated correctly, and I've switched the reset button's pins with the power pins to make sure the button didn't go bad, but still nothing. I'm guessing it's the power supply but I don't have a tester to...
Hey everyone, I'm in a delimma. I push my power button and nothing happens. Naturally I'd think it was the power supply but the motherboard light is on. Could this be the switch? If so, does anyone know the specs of a replacement switch? Ahh help! Thanks guys/gals.
713/1458/1260 , EVGA 260 GTX 50% fan speed, occasionally has heat issues, so I just turn it up to 60% and never have any problems when playing the more demanding games :) I haven't actually hit the max overclock yet either.. just felt like it was a good stopping point.
Well, I'm assuming you have an ATI card, but I have had the same problem with a NVIDIA card.. my problem was my video card driver was messed up somehow.. so I uninstalled them, ran driver cleaner pro, and installed different drivers and it seemed to work. I hope this helps
I love how far my 260 GTX overclocks.. and the overclock really makes a difference of night and day at 1920x1200. It goes from somewhat choppy to silky smooth in many games.
I agree with the poster above. Definitely use DX9, I'm getting 42 average FPS with my OC'd 260 gtx at 1920x1200, no AA of course. But I still get in the 30's with 2x AA (can't remember exactly). Your numbers sound way low, go DX9 and get back with us.
Used to play nexus tk myself.. and still do on and off. God damn that game can be addicting.. but it has so many problems, it just slowly pushed me away.. even though I'm pulled back every once in a while.
Everything seems to run fine and smooth but I do have a slight problem with devil may cry 4.. on one of the cut scenes, the textures on one of the characters gets really fuzzy and stretched out looking, then crashes the game. It must be the drivers.. but it kind of bugs me. (260 gtx is what I'm...
I've always used ATItool to test stability of my cards / overclocks, and this new 260 GTX I've had for the past week or so confuses me a little.. when I run ATItool, even at stock clocks I get "delta of 284 in 2 pixels" sometimes and sometimes I don't. The thing is that it runs pretty much every...
From what I hear.. and have personally experienced (oc wise), the old 260 gtx overclocks better than the new, and for that much less money for only a marginal gain in frame rate, I say go with the old 260. I just got one from BFG not too long ago and so far I've got it to 702/1458/1242 and...
I've read this somewhere.. that if you use a mail-in rebate, such as the "20$ mail-in rebate" currently with their 6 day anniversary sale and such, that it voids your ability to even step-up your card. I can't seem to find anyone else talking about it anywhere, so I thought I'd just ask here...
SCEPTRE X24WG-1080P Black 24"
Connected through DVI
8800 GTS G92
I've checked the connection from the monitor to the GPU, it's secure. Took out the GPU and put it back in, making sure it's seated correctly and well. Doesn't seem to be the monitor.
Hello all.. I have a pretty troublesome problem. Randomly my monitor will just go blank and the light will flash, just as if I would turn off my computer. The problem is that the computer is still running and the only way I can fix it is to reboot the machine. The CPU and GPU temps are fine, and...
Thanks! I'll have to do that. Maybe it's good timing.. but like 3-4 months ago, a few times my monitor would go out and give me the good ol' no signal thing. It stopped.. but it's done it two times today again. It's like the graphics card turns it self off or something, I don't get it. The...
Well.. I've decided to order it. Sucks though.. I know with the UPS 2 day air shipping it will arrive Tuesday.. and I work!!! I guess I'll have to get it Wednesday on my day off :(:(:( Anyone know if leaving a note at the door saying "please put it behind the house in the garage" would work or...
I'm really getting the itch to upgrade to a 260 GTX. I run at 1920x1200 resolution so I'm sure I would get some nice increases.. but I need others input. I don't think any of my system would bottleneck it.. correct me if I'm wrong though please! Even though the 8800 GTS is a great card.. it can...
Hey everyone, for the life of me I cannot figure out what cables go in what pins to get pretty much everything working in the front (usb, reset button, etc). The only one ive figured out so far is the power button.. this may sound dumb, but does anyone know which ones go where or a guide...

This is pretty much the exact same thing that I have. The four things in each corner that is
I've read the hard value guide, and even though I love the reviews, they just don't test enough games for me. Pretty much the ones I hardly will play. Who hasn't beat CoD4 and Crysis already? Also it seems like they don't care about the settings, but having the FPS closer to each other. I'd...
Hello all, well.. today's payday and I have an extra 300$. Currently running a 8800 GTS 512mb and feeling like a little upgrade and I can't decide between the 4870 or the 260 (non 216 version.. it's cheaper). I'm pretty much just wandering which is the better for 1920x1200 gaming? They both seem...
I'm using ORTHOS and Core Temp 0.95.4. I used http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appinstruct/as5/ins_as5_intel_dual_wcap.pdf for my method of applying. I did have trouble seating the heatsink though, it has those four twist knobs at the corners.. which resulted in at least 15 minutes of trying to...
Hello everyone, I think I haven't seated my processor right from the beginning but haven't taken the time to reseat it. I currently idle at 36-37c and full load around 53-55c. Is this high for my processor and my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro? My main reason for this question is that I want to OC...
I have a 8800 GTS G92 card and use 177.35 drivers. I'm using riva tuner and use some fan speed profiles. I'll set it to 70% and then sometimes randomly it'll go from 1227 RPM to 750's with out me doing a thing. I'm fairly certain it's the drivers.. but I really have no idea. Help anyone?
I don't see how everyone is bashing the 280's so harshly. If you look at the 8800 series, the 280 really does outperform it (2x sometimes). If everyone's so upset about the 280, why don't you wait for the refresh for 55nm? This is truly going to be a great time for cheap cards, because for the...
