What better way to interact with Facebook than a oozing stream of black goo all across your desk? Ummm, gross.

Our project offers an indirect way to deal with these problems. A virtual robot makes and keeps new contacts for you by taking over your virtual identity. Your only control over its decisions is through an interface representing the network itself : a black liquid surface covered by numerous spikes that stand for each of your “friends”. It is by altering the surface of this « liquid », that one can interact with the robot and influence his actions in the virtual world.

And just how do you clean that shit up? Does it suck itself back into that white thing?

...dunno about all the "hoax" and "punked" stuff, people know this is a design concept.
fair enough- I didn't catch the "design concept"qualifier; but the preconditions that are needed for this to work (a semi-solid goo whose shape is reactive to computer input !?!, for one) seem so implausible at this stage that I simply dismissed this out of hand.

but if its not a hoax, it would make a dang good one :D

How would this even work?

People you don't like:
>You have a message from your ex-gf Sandy, reply?

#smashes goo

People you do:
You have a message from your gf Katie, reply?

#caresses goo

Ultimately bad for someone with parkinsons. You'd have no contacts left.

Maybe it should come with a big soft mallet. Thing "Wack-A-Mole" LOL

I cant see that its possible to manipulate a magnetic fluid such that it can have spikes representing data when there is no underlying network (in the fluid) to transfer data to any point and receive input from those points.
Hoax :)

WTF, hello, been on the internet since the early 90's never actually been to myspace.com or facebook.com .....

Enter the nanomachine...with those things you could prob do what he is dreaming up.

QFT. i'm in my twenties and find myspace is utter crap. and i've never checked out facebook at all. and i dont have a blog. i just dont feel important enough to post that my dog puked this morning.

socialize IRL > void > socialize via your keyboard

A concept that has no true meaning, function, or form.

I mean, this guy could have said that this good controlls your blood count or drives you car, it doesn't really matter what the application is, the crap is impossible with our current state of technology and really makes no sense from the "goo" perspective.

pls explain, what you said has no bearing on the topic.

Really? The closest way to accomplish it is through nanotechnology IMO, as nothing else known to man (me anyway) would fit into the scope of his idea.

Someone inventive enough (and 20 years in the future) could probably create nanomachines suspended in the fluid that interact like nodes on a network, swarming, transmitting information back and forth. Other types of nanomachines could stack on each other like "tower of goo".

Ah I see, I thought you were referring to current technology.
I agree mad things will be achieved through nanotech in the future :)

When you need to make something possible or use reasoning for the plausibility of an idea, just say "nano technology" :D

yup same here.

The only facebook experience I have had is when an ex girlfriend emailed me asking to get in touch.
Turns out she got some malware through facebook which was emailing everyone in her contacts.
She wanted me to make facebook account too, I laughed.

Ok.. so what is this exactly? I don't really even understand. There's hardly anything written on that page about it. Hoax?

OMG RICKY!!! YOUR COMPUTER CAME ALL OVER YOU

So like i was at popular mechanics and looking up some blue prints and data sheets next thing i know i look down and my computer is splooging everywhere....WTF!!!
