Hello all, well.. today's payday and I have an extra 300$. Currently running a 8800 GTS 512mb and feeling like a little upgrade and I can't decide between the 4870 or the 260 (non 216 version.. it's cheaper). I'm pretty much just wandering which is the better for 1920x1200 gaming? They both seem to be about the same price.. so it's pure performance! And yes, i've read a lot of reviews and they all seem to be different..

I'd buy a GTX260 216 just so I wouldn't have to deal with ATI and their garbage drivers.

I've read the hard value guide, and even though I love the reviews, they just don't test enough games for me. Pretty much the ones I hardly will play. Who hasn't beat CoD4 and Crysis already? Also it seems like they don't care about the settings, but having the FPS closer to each other. I'd rather see a test with ALL cards having 4x AA / 16x AF on instead of one with 4x AA, one with out, then one with 8x, that doesn't give a good sense of how good the cards actually are.

CoD4 is one of the most played PC games currently by a landslide. It's called multiplayer.

Well.. forget I said that then. My main problem is just the mixing up of AA / AF, I'm leaning towards the 260 though..

With the release of a 1gig ram ati 4870 card, see anandtech.com for benchies, Id say go with the new 4870, I was an nvidia fanboy recently purchased a 4870 and havent looked back

Well after years of dealing with Nvidia garbage drivers I decided to buy the 4870 ati card, my first ATI card, Cant say Ive had to deal with any garbage drivers which is more than I can say for Nvidias forceware drivers

ATI has really gotten back in the game!!!

Drivers are usually a mixed bag and their stability seems to depend on mysterious hardware mixes. I'd recommend the 260 GTX due to it's lower price, lower power consumption, and overclocking potential that places it extremely close performance-wise to a GTX 280. To top it off, customer service of the big three Nvidia partners; BFG, EVGA, XFX is second to none in the industry. Comparatively, ATI CS is mediocre at best.

i got a GTX 260 (216) even though I am usually one who buys ATi cards and I am loving the 260 very much I run at 1680x1050
