E6750 too hot?

Hello everyone, I think I haven't seated my processor right from the beginning but haven't taken the time to reseat it. I currently idle at 36-37c and full load around 53-55c. Is this high for my processor and my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro? My main reason for this question is that I want to OC my CPU and that would most definitely crank up the temp too high. Would re-seating it and getting everything done good help much? Thanks!

Those temps aren't too high, but it doesn't leave much room for OC'ing. First of all, what program are you running to get those load temps? You should be running Prime95 and seeing what your load temps are.

Don't exceed 1.5v on your CPU voltage, and try not to exceed 72*C under 100% load. Download and install the latest version of Real Temp if you haven't. Your TJMax temp for your cores is most likely 95 - 100*C, but since you can't be sure pay close attention to the "Distance to TJMax" temp in Real Temp. The lower that number gets, the closer you get to maximum safe operating temp. Try to keep the number at 30 or higher.

As far as would reseating help, possibly. What Thermal Compound did you use, and what method did you use to apply it?
 
I get about those temps on my E6750 using the stock cooler when room temp is 22C. I use CoreTemp to read the temps. I am not OC'ing either.

I'm not familiar with that cooler or it's mounting kit. You could try reseating it, though. If you do, make sure to clean off the thermal compound that's on there now, and reapply.
 
I'm on E6600 + Arctic Freezer 7 pro w/ arctic silver 5.
fanspeed in BIOS set to auto so its low RPM.

CoreTemp reads 41c on idle, + - few degrees depending on ambient temp. In winter its about 36c.
I'm not too sure about these temps either.
 
ok.. I give up, i've re-seated the heatsink, reapplied artic silver 5, and it is idling at a whopping 35c, virtually the same as before.
 
Did you use the line application method for the AS5? The AS5 also has to cure. Ive been using MX2 paste lately and getting better results. I could be wrong but I believe your arctic freezer 7 had pre-applied MX2 paste. Ive built a ton of machines and used that cooler a few times and after overclocking I get about 65C for my load temps after hours of orthos with an E4400. You have about 10C to play with so you got some room for overclocking but the arctic freezer 7 isnt the best cooler but is better then stock. Xigmatek 128, Nirvana 120, or Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme cool really well. I am not a fan of the push pin system and Xigmatek does offer a kit to bolt through thier heatsink. You can always look into lapping your CPU and heatsink. Ive done this a few times with great results.
 
aekel, I have the same exact temperatures at you, but mine is overclocked to 3200 (8 x 400). My voltage is about stock, maybe one notch up. I use an old school XP120 cooler. I have pulled mine apart and re applied the thermal paste. I use AS5. It makes no difference. I could maybe try a different CPU fan or even a different cooler, but mine has remained stable so I do not worry about it.

I wouldn't call 35c 'whopping'. If that is your CPU core temp I would think that was Ok. Even if its CPU case temp, its not too bad either.
 
The artic cooling freezer 7 pro is a compact cooler and gives decent results. I would not be too concerned about have between 35c to 55c. If you want to overclock alot, you would have to get a bigger heatsink with a large array of heatpipes or a pricey, exotic cooling solution.
