I've read this somewhere.. that if you use a mail-in rebate, such as the "20$ mail-in rebate" currently with their 6 day anniversary sale and such, that it voids your ability to even step-up your card. I can't seem to find anyone else talking about it anywhere, so I thought I'd just ask here.. sorry if it's a dumb question. I'd just rather not use my rebate if it's the case.. I want to step-up eventually! Thanks guys/gals.

As long as the card has been registered within 30 days, you are within the 100 day window, the card is in complete working order with all the original packaging, and the card has not been modified then you will be eligible for trade up (< the short version of the rules). The rebate should not stop you from being able to trade up your card. If you haven't run across this yet, you can find the official terms and conditions here:

As always, if you guys have any questions please let me know.

Modified for clarity :D
