Hi all.
As title.
Stereo headphones and DAC or Soundcard for around £200.
Mic is not essential, would be nice but only if not compromising sound quality and from experience, "gaming" headsets are mostly garbage compared to HI-FI kit.
Thanks.
It was a bandwidth issue and the game devs did not pay the roaylties, that was down to the manufacturers of the soundcard.
At the time, it was either Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect. Both were hardware solutions and the games themselves were not part of the "encoding" process.
The hardware...
My understanding is that if you HDMI from PC to AV Receiver, the receiver will output the LPCM to the speakers accordingly?
The reason for DDLive etc in the past was that Optical did not have enough bandwidth hence why the DD Live compression was needed.
All of the above.
Is for a second room setup.
Not for main rig or lounge or the like.
Not expecting the Yamaha kit to be "world beating"... just wanting to know if better than the PC speakers relative to bang for buck.
A lot of Hi-fi kit is 6 ohms.
As much as I love Logitech kit, I...
Specifically, looking at this for £350...

Compared to a Z906 PC speaker setup for example which is "mid range" for PC speakers, would the Yamaha "standard" system offer better performance?
Thanks.
Even in a poor airflow case with a single rear exhaust fan, the system is VERY quiet, I would say silent but put it this way, it cannot be heard over the ambient noises in the room. The AMD Stealth cooler is great value for a freebie.
Another plus for the Pro4 was the 4 DIMM slots. I have had...
Thank you for the replies.
I did indeed go for the Asrock B450 PRO4 (before seeing that reply).
Seems the best specced board, ample fan headers AND a decent board layout with USEABLE expansion slots.
Even though the PRO4 was £20 more than the others, it was worth it for the PWM fan headers...
Hi.
I got this for a cheap HTPC build.
https://aerocool.io/product/bolt-mini-tempered-glass/
The front intake is not great, a small vented section on one side.
Could the top fan slots be used for intake or is that a no no?
With the front intake being next to useless, if I put a single...

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450M-PRO-M2-MAX
Personally, I am leaning towards the Asrock as it features two system fan headers, one PWM, the other a 3 pin.
The MSI just has one PWM fan header. Yes, I could get a PWM splitter but why do that if...
Thanks for the opinions guys.
I went with the 3200G in the end.
Was not an easy choice as I would have preferred to have a passive heatsink but with more strenuous decoding becoming the norm, made sense to go with the 3200G as it has more "omph".
The fact the 3000G is only 35w made it a...
For a PLAYER/Streaming box only, which would be preferred..
AMD Ryzen 3 3200G
AMD Athlon 3000G
This is a client only build, I already have a strong server.
This is needed for Plex playback (sometimes 4k, direct play preferred) and Youtube, iPlayer etc.
£35 price difference so about 45%, not...
I can get a 3200G for £20 more so I think that seals the deal :D
Thanks guys.
Will keep this thread for the build info.
Am going to put it in a Jonsbo G3 case.
That CPU has 4 CPU threads.
Are you saying I need 4 cores/8 threads?
I do not use Netlfix or Amazon. Youtube occasionally.
I use Fyte.TV and New Japan World services the most and maybe Crunchy Roll.
Plex above all else.
This is not being built for performance, it needs to do simple tasks...
You have summised what I need perfectly and understand what I need it for :D
The ROKU is fine but I despise "apps".
Emulator would a great use.
I suppose you can go "low spec" as you like and any modern desktop CPU would be adequate above 2.5Ghz, 8GB RAM...
As much as I love my Roku, I would prefer a PC with a keyboard and touchpad.
Form factor is not an issue, can hide a case away.
Will be used as a Plex client (not server), web browser and general access point for streaming content through ethernet.
Will not be used for recording/encoding...
I know 1 year is not a lot but they do work fine and nothing disastrous.
Less than £100 per drive.
I would say 5400rpm but those P300's do not get too hot and are not loud, so why not?
SATA
Freenas
Main use is Plex server and file server for home LAN.
Currently running 8 of these 3TB for the past year...

Not a problem with them.
I think they are great value for what they are.
Anyone suggest anything else?
Thanks.
I already have an adequate AV system in the lounge, if the Z5500 will be fine for gaming only purposes, I will keep it.
Not used 5.1 for many years so want to try it again to see if missing out.
Just initially reluctant to running cables and mounting speakers etc.
How is surround sound gaming nowadays?
Is 7.1 even a thing for gaming nowadays?
Is it worth me running the cables, mounting the rear speakers etc or is it just not worth it?
I have been stuck with 3.1/Headphones for two decades. Headphones are OK (Stereo).. Do not get me started on 7.1...
What is the manufacturer date of your monitor?
Mine is September 2015.
Overdrive is not selectable when using DP and Freesync.
Menu is visible when outside of Windows.
Well, it looks like the QC issues continue.
My XF270HU has this "patch" in the middle of the screen.
Sigh.
This tech has definitely been rushed to market.
AU Optronics are the ones to blame and the OEMs for not doing enough QC.
Not one single OEM is having problems, they all are using...
