Battlefield 4 Beta Discussion

Performance is too bad to really play the game. It does not look that much better than BF3 either. It does look better in some areas, but the performance is too bad to play. The game also looks odd and blurry even though it is at 1920x1080.

I also hate the HUD design. It looks a bit too big and ugly. Blocks too much stuff.
But the maps are a bit more interactive, which is a good thing.

There's a UI scale option in the menus.

As expected by the earlier alpha benchmarks, performance on my 6950 is atrocious. Average 25-30 fps with dips to single digits at random intervals. Adjusting quality settings doesn't seem to help any.

2500K @ 4.3 ghz, 8 gigs of ram.

Battlefield 3 doesn't run amazingly for me by any means (40-50 fps average) but it doesn't get these terrible stutters. Tried the beta catalyst drivers with no help. Game is basically unplayable for me at this point because it's impossible to aim.

nice to see it didnt even take one day for the gameplay to go to complete shit

and when I say that I mean, you have freaking lifers already at a level 6 all stacked on one team, just standing in a group on far reach of the map sniping.. It gets old real fast.

I consider myself more a recreational player, im at a 40 on BF3, and I only play maybe a few times a week at most. But looks like ill be server hopping a lot.

I'm a recreational player too, well I play games often but my time is divided between multiple games and I don't see the gameplay going to shit. If you are expecting everyone to advance at your pace, that's not an issue with the game. If you're playing the game correctly, having all the good players from the other team in a group on one side of the map should make it VERY easy for you to cap flags and win the match. The game is also very generous as far as how near the flag you have to be to start capping it, so it's not at all difficult to maneuver yourself so you're not in the line of site of a sniper.

Anyone tried the Battle screen? I really like the concept. Even though the game is unstable at the moment, the battle screen is working really well, when I do manage to get into the game.

I average about 85fps with the below settings and I think it looks great...

Are the textures unmapped? There is no "pop", it looks washed out and textures don't appear detailed from a distance. Dunno, not impressed yet, couldn't even hold my attention for 20 minutes.

I finally got installed and now I am stuck at the loading screen. It just sits there loading. I got into a game once after 5+ minutes and then it crashed.

Betas, lol

Finally got it installed and working. Doesn't play nice with MSI Afterburner.

Protip: crank the resolution scaling in video settings up to 200% for glorious FSAA :D Will bring most systems to their knees.

Quoting this for visibility. Worth a try if you've got a decent system. I'm running the game at ultra settings, 0xMSAA, medium FXAA, and 150% scaling. Looks fantastic.

the black screen load issue..best way to fix is manually update bf4 beta with pbsetup

So I'd like to see others test this...

I had abysmal performance just like the majority of you, until I closed battlelog/battlemap in the background. After that, my performance skyrocketed.

I would think it would be beneficial to bump your mesh quality, which from my understand is your draw distance. I'd trade a few FPS to see further personally.

I'm really not impressed. It feels clumsy and like I'm playing a cartoon. The lack of audio control is terrible (gunfire is way to loud relative to other stuff). The interface is just blah

Everything max except MSAA=off and motion blur 0%. You can see my spec from my sig. The framerate varies too much and too frequently, resulting in stuttery gameply. FPS varies from 40+ to 100+. Game was installed on a separate SSD away from my other SSD that holds my OS.

This. Thanks!

So any difference/performance gain between NVIDIA BETA drivers and 327.23? Going to upgrade now, still on 320.00.

OH AND IM TIRED OF THE SNIPER OPTIC GLARE. Still no upgradeable kill-flash?!...one day.

man who cares about image quality or maxed performance----it's a beta.

Much more important is how the game feels to play: weird.

enemies die even more quickly than BF3, but recoil is way less of an obstacle. this is not a good combo.

also, the way your character moves seems to have less "weight" to it. also a bad thing. BF3 had an excellent sense of "body". That seems to be dramatically toned down.

My performance on a 7870, 8gigs of ram, and a Phenom II hex core was fine, at high quality settings. I expect it will be better in the final game. My only real issue with performance was that randomly it would just tank to single digit FPS, then incrementally build back up to normal performance, over the course of about 5 seconds.

The map clearly has some unfinished areas, which is a stark reminder that this is a beta.

Got in for a few hours this morning just now, and had a blast. Glad I preordered BF4 + premium discounted, they'll be well worth my money. Runs really well on high-ultra settings MSAA off, HBAO on, with 670 SLI 4GB oc'd (680 pcb/cooler). Gameplay feels refined in a LOT of different ways and is quite fun :).

I could be wrong, but I think those are the kind of players who are obsessed with their stats. I've came across players in BF3 who are so obsessed with their K/D ratio that they would play as a sniper to avoid death and get all the kills number in without caring about the actual objectives.

Though I think its rare to come across a group full of them. I usually come across one or two of these campers in a game and it's no big deal.

May be time to upgrade my 5850. It handled BF3 pretty well and it lasted four years. Not bad.

Would this be a good replacement for BF4?

http://pcx.com.ph/components/graphics-card/vc-asus-gtx660-oc-2gb-gddr5-192bit-gtx660-dc2o-2gd5.html

Or is it the CPU that's slowing me down? I'll be replacing both the video card and motherboard/cpu over the next couple of months but i don't know which one to get first.

Standard 660 i wouldn't really look at, maybe try a 7950 or just wait for the new mid range AMD cards.

Also yes your CPU is going to let you down in this game.

cpu first, get a FX 8320 and overclock the shit out of it, 4770k/3770k is way too expensive and 4 just real cores don't seem to cut it judging from the beta :(

your next gpu should also be AMD because nvidia doesn't fully support dx 11.1 nor mantle

budget gamers run the game just fine with piledrivers and tahiti LE's while other ppl who have spent 2x and 3x more money for a gtx 770 + 4670k are currently struggling with gpu usage and stuttering issues, way to go dice :(

2 known remedies so far

1) set bf4.exe to "low" priority
2) downgrade (pun intended) to windows 8

Another thing I like a lot about the game - the voice over actually tells the location of the enemies. As in, enemy tank west of your position etc.

I think thats a neat feature.

At the moment, I can't really get into a game without connection issues. BL is showing me tons of empty servers. Its early in the morning though, hopefully there will be more players in the evening.

That's an interesting point. All the people in here with Windows 8, are you having stuttering issues? If hte win8 scheduler really fixes a lot of issues that would tick me off.

Finally got it installed and working. Doesn't play nice with MSI Afterburner.

So far this. The overlay doesn't work so I can't get my stats there or even on my second monitor graphing. Which leads me too...

I can't get this game to vsync at all. I try and turn it on in game and I try and have tried all the flavors of vsync in the Nvidia control panel. No matter what I do, the game just cranks my MSI 680 to max, the fans start to spin up, and I have no way of trying to get them to peg only at 60fps. Anybody else having issues with vsync?

With my system with vsync enabled and everything on ultra I was getting a consistent 45-65 fps. Played the beta last night and spawned in a jet. Then like a boss crashed 2 seconds later. Good times.

So if you are running vsync, you are getting above 60fps? As in, not working for you either or are you running 120hz?

I've been experiencing crashing too. I think I'll just wait for the final release. It gets annoying.

I got a crt at 2304x1440 80hz. With vsync off I was getting about the same fps but the tearing was unbearable. Then with vsync on I think the tearing has gotten better. But this was last night and I was having a blast and didn't really notice anything conclusive. But I'll report back tonight.

You think that's bad? There is some dude named Rifleman71 or something that has over 3000 hours played, 400+ Attack Chopper service stars (LOLWTF) and pretty much aimbot accuracy on other choppers with TV missiles even if they're going into a deep dive and turning. I think he's like #5 on the leader board for attack choppers.

My point is don't be surprised by anything, check the leader boards if you wanna see people going full retard, there's plenty of sad no-life basement dwellers that play this game obsessively like nothing else in the world existed.

Anyway, I guess it might be too early to ask whether the hit detection issues with bullets hitting you after you're already behind cover has been fixed at all?

The NVidia driver 320.49 has really smoothed things out for me. I currently have it in a single monitor config. We'll see how we do after I go to multimonitor.

My i7 920 @ 4.0 GHz is holding its own at 60% CPU usage. Four cores with hyperthreading for 8 threads total. I don't see CPU as the limiting factor here. This game is pushing my GTX590 it seems and using all of its 1.5 GB effective video memory. I run 1080p maxed and there is stuttering and dips. The problem is what I see on the screen doesn't look better than BF3 to me. It might just be the beta.

In any event I am thinking that a lot of very good graphics cards will fall under this game's sword. Here the problem, however. This is a PS4/XBONE launch title. So I am thinking even if I have to dial down the settings for a year, I don't want to upgrade my PC until there are more data points on how much video memory, CPU, and ram I really need. I don't think THIS is the game that is going to tell us that. I know my system is probably insufficient, I just don't know how insufficient. I'm going to let [H]arder people sort it out for me. :p

I would try NVidia 320.49. I was using the beta launch driver and my system was running like doodoo. It's night and day different with 320.49.

man, same issue with the binding of the 'Q' key, just like in BF3, can't rebind it anything else

It's like they built BF4 on top of a BF3 *alpha* build  The very basic BF3 beta bugs are back.:(
