NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I've been watching this thread for a very long time. Finally pulled the trigger last night. I can't even afford the build yet, but this case makes me drool. I just want to thank everybody here for making this case a reality.

Luckily you don't have to afford the build until January, give or take. Watch prices, catch an awesome deal here or there, maybe something solid on Black Friday or around Xmas.

Very true. If you know for sure what components you want the Holiday sales can be a good time to pick up some items cheaper. Around that time we should also have a better idea of anything new that may be coming out first part of 2014. :)

Any chance to go very close like on this. :)

I've been messing with variations on Necere's Demci filter pattern for a couple hours now, and can't really come up with anything much better. Think the biggest problem is keeping the 120mm fan/rad mount holes clear for screw heads (or probably worse, rubber fan mounts). And there's no room to have the filter larger, covering the screw holes, because of the case feet.

The only improvement I would recommend on Necere's pattern is to fatten the inside corner of the frame/magnets (the part in his picture that is narrower than the rest). I can see the plastic frame getting broken in corners that thin.

1st pic shows what I meant by fatter corners. 2nd pic would probably be easier for them to make, but most of the magnet would be sticking to perforations instead of solid case.

Haha, you know you're living the wild life when you spend your Saturday night dicking with pictures of fan filters :p

Yeah I figured. I personally can live with filters that don't have inner dimensions to cover the entire 120mm. Won't impact airflow too much.

Agree. I'll go with whatever Necere deems best for fitment. Here's 2 more I did, based around an F12 frame, to allow for as much airflow as possible without blocking the mounting holes..

Woot! One hour to go! :D

Ok, if I do DemciFlex filters, I think this is what I'd ideally like to get..

* Single 1-piece outside bottom filter/magnet with clearance for all 8 fan/rad screw mounting holes.. roughly 120x240 in size.

* 2 oversized 1-piece inside side panel filters/magnets (both left & right side), mounted backwards, and stuck to the inside of the panel itself (not on the fan rack or PSU).. larger than 240x120 so magnetic mounting strip is placed outside of the perforated area completely.

Seems like the easiest for Demci to create, the simplest to install, and the quickest to maintain. Anybody see any particular issues with this?

Nice AFD,

Tell me the specs and everything and post pics so I can buy then also, but I'm assuming the 4 fan filters that come with the case are decent right?

Are they all 120mm fans?

Thanks! I won't know the exact measurements until the case arrives, unless Necere has any input beforehand.

The 4 filters that are included with the case are 120mm Lian Li's. Not 100% sure, but they're probably these..

EDIT: I haven't read any reviews about Lian Li's filters, but I'd imagine they work just fine.

EDIT: Yup, they do appear to be the PT-AF12-3B..

Four of Lian Li's standard plastic frame filters will be included. You can see these in some of the testing images.

I have these on my PC-V352B and they are easy enough to remove, if Necere also choose to include the easy remove mounting "screws" so you can just pull out the fan with the filter and then remove the filter without using a screwdriver.

Necere, thanks for answering my long list of questions!

Still says 5 hours to go on the ncase website? - Is the website clock tied to local clock time, as opposed to your time?

Is it too late to change the case colour? I am still sooo undecided on black/silver.

I like the black because
- Its dark, hides in shadows better
- Its the same colour as the insides - slick
- Its a "safe" colour? and things look slimmer in black ;)

I like the Silver because
- Its got that two tone look which is cool
- Its supposedly more dust proof, in that it hides the dust better
- Its slightly more scratch proof/masking, particularly if this case is going to be a traveller
- Should also go well with my white desk, apple keyboard.

I solved this dilemma by buying one of each. :D

Thats the ideal scenario! But not always an option :(

Lucky enough to get one, and I'm happy at that!

Of course, if its too hard to change, then it shall stay as it is. I bought from the website directly. Black ;)

Currently having a great time just looking up motherboards vs air coolers in the search for the quietest setup possible. Going to keep it simple and quiet with decent air cooling, thats the first call.

Currently its only the ASUS boards that have the centrally mounted CPU, which permits coolers such as the C12P, the largest top down that doesn't sacrifice the HDD slot.

The Asrock motherboard appeals to me too both on cost and features (less stuff that I wont be needing), but its got a heavily top biased CPU, which limits me to narrow coolers, so a mini tower or a 92mm top down is all that will fit. (same applies to the gigabyte, except I prefer to bias the cooler to the top of the case?)

Many hours of fun!

Btw, has anyone had any experience with Dynatron, and in particular, the K17. Its a 92mm tower style cooler, 4 heatpipes, and of most significance is the lower profile, with a max height of 110mm. This would permit the use of a side intake fan of up to (137-110 = 27mm) which essentially gives plenty of room for everything.

Only problem is the shipping costs to my door in australia, its noticeably more expensive than buying a noctua U9B SE2 locally. Would prefer the noctua, except that the noctua would only give me (137-125 = 12mm) of space between the cooler and the fan mounting, which means no room for rubber fan mounts, even on the slimmest of fans, the scythe slip stream slim (12mm)

Jesus H. Christ... You were given plenty time to think on your colors. I hope the order has gone to Lian Li now.

Yeah, really. Dunno.. think Wahaha is still supposed to email everybody, confirming the correct choices before submitting the order to Lian Li. Plus, it seems Ncases is still actively accepting orders after the campaign has ended.

It's kind of annoying that stupid shit like this will only be slowing down the entire process for everybody else.. refunds, color changes, forgetting int'l shipping. I've never done crowdfunding before and rarely do paypal, but I made my decision, figured out the order process & had it all done correctly in a minute or two on the 1st day.

Maybe some people's 1st time ever buying something over the internets?

I think its more of a problem with not knowing how to follow instructions (caused the problems that required the whole refund thing - the instructions on how to get multiple cases was clear, at the top of the page, and in bold letters, as was instructions on how to order the silver color), and also a problem of being indecisive. I like the silver and if there is an opportunity to buy NCASE again in the future I will get one, but my first decision was on the black one, and thats that.

Calm down. One week later or earlier doesn't really make a difference ...
Unless the world ends that one week ! Than I would have lost that week with my Ncase.
Precious. My precious !

But I agree on the "I can't decide between silver and black", please grow a pair (if applicable) and don't act like a child. If you decided on a whim you want the color you choose, live with it or you will never learn from mistakes like "impulse decision making".

As long as Wahaha doesn't blow a mental fuse or two, and ends up hospitalized for a year. :)

Lian Li sent us the final sample last night (1.5 weeks late!, probably miscommunication) = verify the sample this week before order = losing one week anyway.

A 30 day campaign is standard, we chose 21 days because 1) we wanted to move things faster and 2) I figured things could go wrong and take a few extra days.

We'll get things sorted this week :)

Take your time, I gotta figure out where I'm going to get the $2k for components going into this thing. Likely the last PC I'll ever buy/build (I'm sure in a few years there will be little reason to not just use notebooks for everything) so I may as well go all out!

I'm many, many years overdue for a new build.. so how about you just admire your new empty M1 while you're waiting for parts? :D

This case is also going to be for my new build in maybe 5-6 years (Core 2 Quad FTW !), I have most of the parts except the case, CPU cooler and GPU. With desktops having a blurry future, who knows what 5 years ahead will bring. I won't see workstations as being wearable or tablet-sized in the next 5 years, but I'm curious what Intel's plans for the desktop enthusiast are.

Better to take your time and get it right than rushing and making mistakes we wouldn't want. :)

Hey guys,

just registered to say thanks!

I came across the indiegogo campaign a week ago and finally ordered with 2 days left from ncases.com to give you more (I think), just hope everything will work out fine :D

It was already a freaking chance that I found it while I was looking at review for the best mini-itx case for Christmas. Now I found an entire forum dedicated to this, perfect!

Well that sucks... Why'd I wait till today to check the forum! I can't believe I was literally 1 day too late to order, I would have bought one in an instant.

And before anyone asks, I didn't have any real "disposable" income before to help fund the project...

I wouldn't get too happy unless Necere or Wahaa says they'll honor the order. Just because it lets you doesn't mean its a valid order. Not trying to poo-poo on anyone but you had best be sure and only they can say for sure. Hopefully all is well.

Good question.. Are orders still being taken? I'd like to place one if so..

We are leaving it open to accept orders for the next few days.

Waiting for Necere to examine prototype 3 before we place the order with LL anyways.

I also need the time to email people to verify orders.

Ordered a black one the other day, looking forward to this case. Need to find a slot load blue ray player and look into my first fully liquid cooled rig.

I just registered to say how excited I am at this case, it looks freakin sweet, I can't wait to it to ship!

let me know what you find, or if there any good deals on slot load slim blue ray drives. I'm going to start buying parts now. I think I'm going to wait till Black Friday for some mobo/processor deals, but I might go crazy if I don't get started on it now :)

If anyone is looking for a H220 and live in northern europe, CoolerKit just got some in stock.
I have been stalking the product page, since they are the only reseller I can find with an acceptable price.
