Ok I finished Aliens Colonial Marines for you guys.

BTW, if you guys didn't like Alien 3, again I STRONGLY suggest seeing the Assembly Cut. It's the version that David Finch wanted to do but Fox Studios, treating him like a novice director (which he was, it was his first big budget film), wouldn't let him. Fox studios FUCKED UP Alien 3. The Assembly Cut version is a COMPLETELY different movie. Seriously, do yourself a favor and go watch it. You can buy it for relatively cheap now (or hell download it but I would prefer you buy it instead of pirate it). You will not be disappointed. You might actually like it (I know hard to believe).

Is it part of the Blu-ray Anthology set? I thought about picking that up last time it was on sale but didn't.

Yeah it should be on there. The assembly cut is the most complete version of the film but I would argue that structurally it's still basically the same film just fleshed out. More character stuff. More scenes of the outside planet. It's feels less cheap.

In the regards to graphical improvements on ACM. It's worth noting it's still just a crap game. They could use the Crysis engine and I'd still wish I'd bought caramel popcorn and rewatched the quadrilogy rather than play this game.

No it wouldn't, as Aliens Trilogy came out in 1996 and the forth Alien film came out in 1997. So it would have had to have been "Aliens Duology" :p

It was significantly closer to the original films feeling and setting (and story continuity) than Aliens...

Which is why it fails, while Aliens stands as an all time great movie. Cameron realized that trying to just copy the first movie was pointless,so he gave it a new direction. Granted, the director of Alien 3 was hampered from the start by Sigorney Weaver's insistence that they kill off Ripley (a stupid decision, and it only took a big paycheck for Resurrection to make her to abandon her "artistic principles") but unceremoniously killing off two other characters audiences had loved in Aliens was idiotic. And while Cameron created characters we liked and cared about, there wasn't a single one in 3 that I gave a damn about.

wtf.. oh man LOL! what the..ahahaha!! jesus fucking christ bro why the hell did you do that? fucking people really hahaha! oh man not even me who works two days a week and got this game for free wouldnt do it, jesus what to say lol! i think you deserve some kind of award for that, something, maybe a beating, probably would put your senses back hahaha! :D :D :D

My head hurts

Graphics and single player aside, the multiplayer is fun and challenging. It's a lot more fun when you have a team that works together. Too bad the Mics like to cut in and out sometimes. Seems to be the same problem with Boarderlands 2.

But in Aliens, nothing really happens series plot wise. Remove it from the series of films and you would pretty much be left with the same series of films. It was a pretty generic action film that hapened to have Aliens in it. Like a crossover between a Veitnam war era army film and Alien. Who loved Hicks? What was your favirote Hick's line? What armor did he wear? He was the soppy one that spent the whole time hanging around Ripley... He wouldn't have added anything to the film and would have changed the whole group dynamic (she wouldn't have had to speak to anyone, just hung around Hicks and Newt as a family while there were some unrelated convicts, and she wouldn't have seemed as vulnerable, nor formed relationships with the convict or the doctor). The people in Aliens 3 were violent convicts a purposefully annoying guard and a creepy scientist rather than "heros", you weren't supposed to like them, and if you didn't, then they were good characters. :p

She said she wanted to kill ff Ripley to stop it becoming a "Ripley wakes up in a spaceship and theres an Alien" joke. It also wasn't the original idea for the film (though some parts were kept like the way they killed the Alien). It's a different kind of film. It's more...subtle... One thing that bugged me about Aliens was how the Alien went from being able to kick 100 peoples asses to one human suddenly being able to kill 10,000...

I didn't read through this thread, but I just wanted to say that when I saw this:

I decided not to risk my time with this game.
That is all.

You really shouldn't take any notice of what Metacritic says, even though it seems semi accurate here... A game could be 97% and still be crap... :p

Most of them are paid off, or just stupid. :D

When I organize a list of games by metascore, I generally agree with the list. I trust metascores.

Is it part of the Blu-ray Anthology set? I thought about picking that up last time it was on sale but didn't.

yes, it's called the 'Restored Workprint Version'...they have multiple versions of each movie on the Blu-ray set

Theres a load of games I find really, really, reeeally boring (HL2, ME, DA) that get stupid high scores, and games like (MH, JC2) that get stupid low scores.

Brink and Just Cause 2 both have almost the same score...and Titanic won 135 Oscars...reveiwers are idiotmorons...

Lol, I am the opposite of you. I didnt think JC2 should have even been granted that high of a score. I love ME, and DA. I don't know what MH is. But you have to realize reviewers give their opinion on something. Everyone is different, thats why you have metacritic which avg. out the huge outliers to give you as close as possible a realistic score.

Except it doesn't do that at all.

I recommend watching this from 14:23 . Has a pretty good explanation as to why metacritic should be deleted from the face of the earth as soon as possible. It's all aribtrary numbers, taken from arbitrary sites, with some weird secret weighting process going on behind the scenes. Metacritic has way too much control over the gaming market and they are abusing the hell out of that. Whether a game is good or not or a score you give to a game is completely subjective and your expectations of a game can vary based on many things, including your previous involvement in the series (lots of people had problems with DMC, but if you freshly get into that franchise you will not have any of those problems with that game). Then comes in metacritic and takes all those subjective arbitrary scores and puts them together into one big clusterfuck that doesn't REALLY mean anything. How can you even guarantee that when a site gives a game 5/5, that they meant a 100% score by that? Because I'm pretty sure that's what metacritic translates it to.

Metacritic is for lazy people that lack the attention span to look into a game past two numbers (which leads me to believe you probably haven't gotten this far into my post either). If you want a real game review you're going to have to read an actual review by an actual reviewer you trust, just like you do for buying hardware components. Would you buy a PSU if it randomly came out and "some" website said it had an aggregate score of 70%?

Not to mention their actions have done nothing but show their incompetence. Read this article for example. Gamespot made a bad, inaccurate review, took it down - metacritic still used that and refused to update, as a result of which NS2 suffers a significantly worse aggregate score - because, guess what, that arbitrary weighting system gives gamepost a fairly large influence over the total score.

Oh hey, you wanna see an example of a game developer not receiving bonus from Bethesda because metacritic gave their game 84 instead of 85? :D
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/obsidian-missed-fallout-new-vegas-metacritic-bonus-by-one-point/
Yeah, that's not arbitrary and unjustified at all. Of course that contract didn't have anything directly to do with metacritic, but they're being given that sort of power by developers and that's the problem. And since the scoring process of metacritic is done completely behind closed doors, we can never know whether some guy didn't just go "tiem to lowar diz by 1 pointz so besthduzda can haz moar muney"

I wanted so badly for this game to be badass. Aliens being my favorite movie of all time I had really high hopes. You think for a game that's been in production for so long would've been a lot better.

And yeah I actually liked Alien 3.

This is my view point on Alien 3 and why I love it as a great trilogy ender.

LOL I didn't know all that back history about the movie, what a cluster fuck!

I too enjoyed Alien 3 for essentially all the reasons you pointed out, don't get the hate for the movie either.

Also, given how basically everybody in the prison gets killed, Hicks and Newt were still going to die, Newt with probably some serious sexual molestation to boot, better she died in the Crash. Ambivalent about Hicks.

I installed the new config stuff. Still looks like as and unfortunately it didn't change it being a crap game. I even set beevenonparwith10yeargame=TRUE. didn't help.

Same experience here...disappointing. No change in graphics.

So I found a copy of the BR box set of Alien Anthology with the Special Edition of Alien 3. Is this the Assembly Cut everyone was recommending? I am not going to play this crap game but I love the Alien lore and I have never seen the Assembly Cut. Thanks guys :)

yeah i had no idea about the assembly cut, so in a way I'm glad they made this game otherwise I might not have read about it... hey, there's a positive thing after all! :p

It should have been named Aliens meets the Bible: the Jesus Cut, and not Alien 3.

She lands outside a jail complex, and meets 12 disciples/prisioners who follow her around and all die to the alien/satan in the end. Then Ripley/jesus sacrifices herself, because she has the alien/satan in her body, and flings herself in a fireball lead pit. She wants to save the world like jesus did on the cross, I guess.

Idiotic Jesus worshipers, and Talibans would love this script. Me I hate it, it's utter religious propagandist rubbish masking itself as an Alien movie. You would think Mel Gibson directed this crud.

Oh yeah after this movie , there's a magical RESURRECTION sequel....just lol right?, sounds stupid right? Because it is, and always was since 1992.

its being one of those crazy fucking days, nvm.

Alien 3 reminds me of the comics in the way that it's not really a sequel it's a stand alone film. It's just another story of the Aliens told from a different perspective. I'm actually more or less ok with ripley dying though I think editing the other two out was unnecessary. I think could have at least featured them, but I think resurrection should just be ignored. Ripley is done tell someone elses to story.

I have agree with the "what happened to" youtube guy who said the problem with Resurrection and the AVP films is that they breach too far into self parody. Too many corny jokes and lighthearted directing. I love city of the lost children amelie and all of those films but it was not Aliens.

Alien 3 stands on it's own as a serious entry to the story.

I recently watched all the Alien movies, and I was disappointed to notice that Alien: Resurrection was written by Joss Whedon. Joss usually does better.:(

As far as my view point on A:CM, yeah Gearbox fucked up but so did Sega.
http://www.destructoid.com/so-who-the-hell-did-make-aliens-colonial-marines--244939.phtml

That article was fascinating. My buddy is the biggest Aliens geek ever and he has been ranting and raving about this game to me for months about the impending release... sending me links to trailers and videos which in turn got me excited.

Walking through Walmart the other day, I saw the box for Colonial Marines and so I texted my buddy to ask if he got it yet. He said he hadn't because of everything he has been reading about it. So I started reading stuff too...

But after reading everything that I have read so far, I can't help but wonder how they could hype this game up so much and yet fuck it up so entirely (I read the article and understand it somewhat). This game I think has so far been the biggest let down since Duke Forever. Especially for fans of the movies and other games.

Gearbox should bury their heads after this. It's shameful.

Marketing budget. Marketers are going to market, regardless of the quality of product.

I'm going to state this right now, I'm not a religious person at all. I believe that all religions are just copies of one another with different names and added side stores. Of course, believe what you want to believe in, whatever makes you happy and that's whats important. Aside all that, I still loved 3.

I'm sure you watched the youtube video I posted so no need for me to repeat myself. It's a great closer to Ripley's character arc. She has been in this never ending nightmare fighting off this horrible creature that has killed off everyone she has ever known and been close too. She almost gives up but, decides to press on and fight this creature. Further more, she accepts her fate and has to sacrifice herself to keep the company away from getting a hold of this monster.

Jesus, told myself I wouldn't repeat myself and here I am again. Overall, you can't please everyone. I think too many people wanted part 3 to be action oriented again like Aliens and bring back all the surviving characters to continue the story line but, this is Ripley's story, not Hicks and Newts story. I think ending it with a horror suspense what a very smart idea, even with it's flaws from the Fox Studio heads fucking everything up.

Seriously, why is everyone hating on Resurrection? What is so bad about it? I thought it was a fun movie. Alien 3 I can understand the hate, I don't agree with it, but I can at least understand that people don't like the path it took the series. But Ressurection wasn't a bad movie!

Maybe I need to drop my hate of this movie and give it a try.

So it appears Pitchford is only responding to positive Tweets about A:CM, and just ignoring all of the criticism.

I understand not responding to trolls, but I don't think that's the best way to go about this. Makes it seem like he's just sticking his fingers in his ears and going "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA".

Is this game worse than the Matix(the game)? No easy feat I tell you.

The fighting one? Or the MMO? I liked both...

Is the community planning on putting another game into the game? That'd be welcome...
