Dishonored

My attention is being drawn now. Game has been hyped up and I wasn't biting and now it looks interesting as it's living up to it's hype so far. I'll wait and see what people have to say for themselves then I will buy it if the Bethsoft.com program doesn't stock it :D

Game looks good, I haven't read too many of the reviews yet but I wonder how much replay value there is?

Either way, with BL2 still and TL2, I likely won't be picking this up until a sale (Steam Winter sale maybe?).

from the PC Gamer review:

This is all PC specific, and our version gets all the special attention we like: field-of-view options, responsive mouse movement, graphics options – you can even ‘Disable rat shadows’. +5% to the score right there.

The fact that someone’s still putting real effort into the PC version of their multi-platform game is one good reason to buy it. But with Dishonored, there are quite a few. The fact that it doesn’t have any unskippable boss fights. That it’s one of the few major new games that isn’t a sequel or a remake. That a developer went to huge lengths to allow players this much freedom, and a publisher gave them the time and money to make it this slick.

It’s a big, shiny example of so much we keep asking for in games, but rarely get. Luckily, the best way to vindicate it is to buy and then play an amazing game.

i was mildly interested in this game until now having read some of the reviews. everything on metacritic is positive. i need something new to play and this has the perfect dark/twisted/halloweenish vibe i'm looking for. i'm purchasing when i get home from work tonight.

Did anyone really expect the pc to be half assed? It's developed by Arkane studios who made both the very underrated Arx Fatalis (which they wanted to be an official Ultima Underworld game but couldn't get the rights to) and Dark Messiah. Both very pc-centric games.

I'm just glad they got under the wing of Bethseda who seems to like to take risks and let pc players have their fun (mods, etc).

Well, just got my GmG Key and am preloading via Steam.

It's gonna be two ridiculous weeks coming with currently War of the Roses, Torchlight 2 and Borderlands 2, then X-Com and Dishonored in a couple of days and then Chivalry next week. Not sure how to devote my time between all of those! 6 fantastic releases in just 4 weeks time. Not sure if i ever experienced something like this in PC gaming (and that's going back to an Amstrad CPC 464 in 1986).

i've played it on xbox for a little bit at my buddies place. yeah, yeah. save all the comments. i will say, it's pretty great. probably not game of the year but still really good. reminds me a lot of bioshock.. gives you the freedom to do as you please, but you're still kinda following a set path/storyline.

i was playing in a stealth fashion and having a blast. had me thinking all the time.

i'll be buying it for pc tomorrow for sure. it's worth it. :)

i'd give it an "ign score" of.. 8.5.

Replay value seems very high. You can't max out your character in a single play through. This makes it so you need to choose if you're going stealth or much more forceful when picking upgrades/weapons. Might not change the story/ending much but should be a very different experience at least.

Wait they made dark messiah...i loved that game but it did really poorly so they never made another one. been waiting for another dark messiah like game to come out for years.

i was on the fence on this one but after finding out who the dev is...day one baby!

The only thing I could say is disappointing in regards to the PC port is it's a bit of a shame they went into the effort to add an FOV slider for it to be limited to 85°.

Probably get tweaked or patched. Haven't seen any word about .ini options if any yet.

Game looks amazing, no demo is a killer and so is the price. Will wait till winter sales, should drop to at least $20 by then.

Is this a necessary post? Every god damn game that comes out (except a very small few) is $60.

fingers crossed that its added to the Bethesda Insiders site tomorrow

free is so much better than paying $60 ;)

Necessary? No. Can I make it if I want to? You better believe it.

Also, a lot of games that are being released now a days on the PC are $30 or less so I believe my post is warranted and will help some people think before spending $60 on a game.

The lack of a demo is the main reason why I made that post, buying a game blind (without trying it) is always a bad idea in my book.

I'm just trying to convince some people that if they hold out another 2 months Dishonored will probably be $20 with DLC from either Steam or Amazon and there should be some lets plays of it on youtube and possibly a demo.

A lot of games? Name one outside of Torchlight. Name one multi-platform game that launched for less than $60.

Yes, the lack of demo's these days is a bummer. Torrent it if you want to get a feel, then buy if you like it enough.

You don't need to convince people about waiting. We're all pretty aware here, especially on the PC side of things. Not to mention your post didn't attempt to do any "convincing" at all.

Definitely not. Most games that come out for PC are less than $60. AAA $60 titles are a small % of the marketplace. That said, you can get it for $48 from GMG, which seems like a decent deal.

I don't know, but is it just me. But when I heard about the all the RATS? I thought hmm, could it be a just in one place? Or are you fighting RATS the entire game?

Fighting rats, reminds of like back in Everquest days when your level 5.

Now you're just coming off as argumentative. I just made a post stating my opinion and what I'm going to do.....am I not allowed to do that on a public forum?

Also when you bring in the multiplatform part you're going against what I said. I just said that most games being released that you can find on Steam and the likes are well under $60 on release day and their price tends to drop drastically.

Quantum Conundrum was well under $60 on release date and that's a multiplatform game if I recall correctly.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater (one of the best Action Sports Series of all time) was just recently released multiplatform for only $9.95.

Dark Souls was recently released on Steam for $39.95 and thats multi platform.

Now why should I pay $60 for a game at release that is rumored to only have 20 hours of gameplay, no multi player, and doesn't have a demo when I can wait a few weeks and get it for $20-$30 with possible DLC?

This is how I view things and if you don't view it that way and have the money to splurge go right ahead and do it, we're all entitled to our own opinion my opinion is based off of logic.

With that being said I wish you all the best and freedom from your argumentative state of mind and/or anger.

20 hours of gameplay isn't bad for this type of game. They figure you'll play it twice, so say ~40hours. Not bad at all.

You don't have to pay $60 for the game, I think I paid 42 to GMG some time ago. Complaining that you are not going to buy a game for full price and instead wait for christmas @ $20 is disingenuous. You could as well wait for a couple of years and get it for $9 or $5. And what other new things do you post about that you are going to *not* buy? We would like to know, since apparently you *not* buying something has the potential to influence people.

interesting...talking strictly about graphics I read a few reviews which mentioned less then stellar graphics- texture popping, shadows not being rendered properly etc...but maybe that was the console version being reviewed

either way when you hear phrases like 'once in a generation' and 'one of the best games I've played in the last 10 years' it really puts whatever graphics issues exist on the backburner...game sounds like a winner regardless of less then top notch graphics...not every game needs DX11, tessellation etc...it really is all about gameplay and gameplay trumps graphics every time

I pre-ordered the GameStop version which comes with the Arcane Assassin pack which suited my gameplay style (Channel: Powers Duration/Damage Bonus, White Rat Friend: White Rats not hostile, Gutter Feast: White Rat consumption for Mana)...plus it comes with exclusive Tarot cards :D

It looks like it will be a lot of fun and affords a great degree of freedom .The stealth options look amazing. Definitely going to pick this up when I am rich again.

Complain all you want to about my post, I'll post whatever I feel like and whatever isn't against the rules. If you find pleasure in taking the time out to write long rants about how you don;t like someone else s opinion or posts by all means have at it :).

Whats the point in me buying this game when I have around 5 other games in my backlog that I got for only $8 a piece on average? Those that wait are rewarded ;).

giggity.
went with the $45 deal on GMG.

I too bit on the $45 GMG deal -- the game looks interesting, is a new IP, and has proper PC features...should warrant the studio getting a purchase from me. For some reason the game gives a half-life 2, bioshock, deus-ex: HR kind of feel so hoping it's amongst friends in this respect - or not, but still be worth it. (haven't watched too many videos)

Can you guys explain to me how Steam is letting you download at over 2mbps? It caps me there and my connection far exceeds that threshold...

a few shots from the opening sequence. controls feel tight and the art direction is cool. lots of options to turn off the on-screen markers/prompts which i'll do after i learn the lay of the land.

Game looks great, FOV is wayyyyy too low to be usable in Surround. Anyone know how to up it? I'm currently limited to only one monitor in order for it to be playable.

Game looks nice, can't wait to play it (have to wait until European release)!

At least I have time for XCOM

hey, can someone explain a non-lethal takedown? I only had a few minutes to take a look, but their instructions don't work for me. (left ctrl, walk into someone)
