My pictures of the Cooler Master 690 (the new $50 uber-case!)

So I put in my new 8800 gt last night (now just waiting on the e8400) and the tooless clamp doesn't hold the card in place as firm as I'd like. For example, the card easily moves up and down--does anyone have any suggestions of how to snug this up?

Nope. I've had this problem with coolermaster's tooless clamps before. My Centurion 5 will not hold a card properly and I always end up using the screw downs.

Doesn't happen to be an EVGA card does it? I have the same issue. To make matters more frustrating, the slot in the bracket does not have even length sides so a screw doesn't grab it correctly either. One side is very stubby leaving almost no metal to clamp down on. I'm probably not explaining this very well and a picture would help. When I get home later, I'll take a quick shot and post it to clarify.

I haven't addressed it yet as I'm still working on some lighting mods to the front panel. I suspect a star washer to bite into the bracket a little, or perhaps just a larger head on the screw might work better.

Updated pics of wire management. Made the hole in the mobo tray bigger since about half of it was covered by my psu. Need extensions for the P4 and 24 pin so I can get them out of the way.

I'd just screw it in. That's what I do so I know it's in there. That's one area that shouldn't be tool less in my opinion, I haven't seen a solution that works yet.

alright, im getting it. and its costing me $60 for the case, and $113 to ship it here to Korea..

Hi,

nice case from the 22 pages I went though. I may have to seriously consider this cause I like how the cables can be managed over my Antec 900. The PSU can actually be installed correctly in my book. Not downside up as in the 900. Unfortunately, I have no money in my pocket and I stick to a really strict budget now. Maybe another of those deals with free shipping and 40 MIR comes along I might have to scrape up some cash for one. However this looks like my next case though.

Later,
shaggy

Yeah, the clip for the expansion cards isn't the best and you can remove the whole thing if need be. With the rear fan out the whole unit slides up and out.

Yea I used screws to secure my cards cause I don't trust those clips since I will be moving my rig back and forth from school.

They should be fine for the typical user who leaves their computer sitting in one place though.

Case updates :D

Swapped the psu around to make the 24 pin reach around the back of the mobo tray.

So your psu is blowing warm air into the case? Not very efficient. If I were you I'd buy a couple of ATX extension cables. One 24 pin and one 4/8 pin power cable.

ehhh no... then the wires would be on the outside. I swapped it so that the wires were closer to the mobo tray. I guess you could call it upside down, but it doesn't really matter with this psu since the fans run straight through and are not on the bottom of it.

Ah I see. I couldn't figure out how you arranged the cables though.

the vent behind the mobo the 80mm slot (I think) does it take a normal sized fan or do you need a slim one?

You need a 80mm x 15mm for the mobo slot.

As a side note, I just swapped out all my 120mm late loons with 140mm late loons.
:D

I'm a fan...atic!

You can do the same w/ the 12v running across your board too.
There is a nice slot on the top backside you can pass through.

ah, yeah been working on my case, have as many 120mm fans as it can take. Anyone else dislike the blue led fan? I moved it to the inside bottom, and the back one to the top? I have another centurion and the blue fan drives me crazy. So far it's been fairly easy to work with except sad it didn't come with small black screws I hate putting in case screws when u miss u scratch the black. But A++ on the psu being on the bottom.

Anyone else feel like they were going to break the whole damn think when taking off the 2 fan side of the case? lol sheash.

the ammount of force it took for me to pull the front panel off when i started my build scared the crap out of me. when it did come off i thought i had broke it. i replaced all the fans in my case with 1200RPM S-Flex or & Yate Loons, no tacky lights or anything like that. just waiting for my E8400 to get here and ill post some pics of this beauty.

What do you guys use for cable management? I know zip ties are used, but what else can I buy that will help me make my cables look nice when i build my computer? Thanks

zip ties are much better and looks nice and neat compare to those velcro which they look bulky.

Electrical tape to tape extra wires to the back of the mobo tray.

Thanks, I really cant wait to get my parts to put this together, taking too long lol

Here's a pic of mine. I'm gonna take it apart and rotate the tuniq so that it blows out the back and not the top. >:| Anyone know what the best 4 case fan set up is for this case? I was thinking 2 front intake, 1 rear exhaust, 1 roof exhaust over ram and face my tuniq so that it blows out the back and pulls cold air from the front instead of from the video card.

You don't need to go out and do that, don't waste your money. There is nothing ghetto about the mod and you don't need to go to the far extent as cutting up the metal brackets
DSC02896.jpg

All that you have to do is swap out the bottom bracket that is for a floppy or card reader with one of the upper drive bay ones and the screw holes match up. Done and done no added cost except for the fan;)

I did this for the top front fan but why did you cover up the bottom fan?

Mine looks like vtx's. The fan is mounted onto the piece of plastic behind it is a hole the fan sits in, no metal grate anywhere. :s

The early generations came with a metal grate with holes in it. I just removed it altogether and mounted the fan directly into the empty slot, as it was creating a lot of noise and constricting airflow. You guys got lucky and got a fancy filter in place of the metal grate.

Interesting to know they already changed something, yea I got my case pretty early so that would explain that. Lucky dogs

I'm running that exact setup. No fans on the side. Just two intake (one on the front, one on the bottom inside) and two exhaust (one on the top, one on the back). Temps are good.

So I took apart my system last night and put it back together with the Tuniq Tower rotated 90 degrees and man was it easier to install! My first installation was a PITA and took forever cuz I couldn't get the mobo screw into the top left hole or the 8 pin power connector in there with the TT in the way. I fell in love again with my TT and 690 last night. ;_;

Just got this case and I'm loving it. I think if I replace the stock cooler on my 8800gt, my comp will be really quiet. If I replace it with the Accelero S1, will it cool adequately without a fan since the side panel will be blowing right onto it?

Maybe this is a mobo (IP35 pro) issue for me.

But the power LED conenction that comes with the case is 2 pins only, the slot for it on my mother board is 3 (well actually 4 with a middle pin missing). So, is there a trick to get the power LED to be working with this set up?

AGH! The suspense is killing me! I checked the egg, and my packages were delivered to my parents house....I've still got a class at 3 to go to!

But I'll post pics ASAP.

**Hopefully this isn't the case, but I ordered a card reader for the 3.5" drive slot for my current setup, and the cord is too short to reach the mobo tray. So right now the side is off with the card reader just sitting right inside the case... Anyone know anywhere good to grab an extension? The force is not with me in my searchings, lol.

I have the same motherboard. Rotate the power connector 90 degrees and use one of the pins below - so it's installed like "|". If it doesn't light up, just reverse it (I can't remember which side should be up and am not at home to check). This worked for me, but makes the red HDD activity light really hard to see.

Well, got her up and running, and I'm loving it...Nice, and HEAVY.

First pic is before I added the card reader...it baarely reaches the internal usb. But it works!

Does anyone else have the 690 and the Gigabyte DS3R? I haven't been able to get my audio ports to work yet (stayed up to 4am, had to go to school) on the top, but I used the HD audio from the case.

Ah man! Bad time to lose my debit card. At least the rebate is good through Feb.
