Battlefield 2042

No love for Battlefield? :-(

Its more than a year away =)
I know BF 3 was on fire everyone was building new rigs around that game in 2011. People want a modern BF game hopefully that is the case.

Loved the Battlefield series up to BF4. Didn't care much for BF1 and the was disappointed with how they handled BFV. I'll be cautiously optimistic with this one and will set my expectations low if it's still the same "team" working on it as BFV.

add leadership from our EA Sports business in David Rutter who understands both live services and the rigor of development

Well that's another hard pass then.

I know it ain't happening but I want a return to the future.

2142 was one of my favorites.

BF5 was a pure clusterfuck, and I'd really like to see the series shift back in the direction of BF4. BF1 was okay, but I felt like it had already begun its shift away from the magic formula. BF4 was the last game that really "got it."

Edit:
Also Battlelog was the best server browser they ever made by miles and everyone who didn't like it was wrong as fuck and should feel bad.

Agreed, BF3/4 were absolutely amazing games (I played more BF3 than BF4 though).
I never minded Battlelog - it just worked for me and my friends.

I didn't touch any of the WW1/WW2 garbage.

What I want:

- Return to modern setting.
- Return to a very similar gameplay and gun mechanics of BF4.
- Return to a similar feel and theme of BF4. It wasn't perfectly realistic but the soldiers looked like soldiers, and the guns and vehicles were painted like real military equipment.
- Battle log successor. It doesn't have to run in a browser, just needs the same functionality and when you get in a server launches the main game.
- A few more vehicles. I want to see a return to both wheeled and tracked IFV/AFVs.
- Make the sight orientation, especially with pistols, more realistic. CoD Modern Warfare got it perfect. In BF4 your eye is right up to the weapons and hyper zoomed in.
- Proper vehicle based Conquest Large. I shouldn't have to wait around for a tank. We need big vehicular battles.
- TDM hardcore with maps properly designed for it.
- Drop pointless "living match" crap that carries over penalties from the previous match.

Chances the above will be fulfilled - slim to none.

I'd like to see vietnam. carrying tanks with choppers, radio in the jeeps... those were the days. I feel like I've gotten my modern era fix with cod. future could be cool too. 2142 was interesting

should've gone with Vietnam, we already have a modern day shooter.

Honestly the BF5 trailer was so bat shit crazy I initially assumed they were going to do some whacky alternative history shit like Wolfenstein or something.

Instead we just got WW2 with a heaping helping of dumb. That everyone hated so they toned down the dumb a bit but was still pretty dumb.

Wouldn't mind if they went this route.

Played a lot of BF3, but the other battlefields didn't feel as compelling to buy...

Hopefully I can get back on the train with this.

Yeah, I feel mostly the same as others here. BF3 was truly epic. Played hundreds of hours with that one. Never bought BF4 as it just felt like another expansion to BF3. BF1 was okay. I think it's the timeframe and lack a lot of weapon customization that turns off alot of people.

I was a huge fan of Battlefield: Vietnam, it stands out as one of my favorite Battlefield games. That said, I hate the way modern multiplayer FPS's have ruined the historical era. BF1 and BF5 were both wonderful settings, settings that the gameplay did not fit. In WWI, almost everyone was running around with bolt action rifles. Semi-auto and automatic weapons were rare, and mostly existed as prototypes or very large suppression type weapons. Weapon customization didn't exist. These things make the pacing and gunplay totally unfitting for the setting. Even in WW2, semi-auto and automatic weapons had become accessible to infantry units, but were somewhat of a rarity. Your average soldier was still running around with a bolt action rifle. There was a massive demand for weaponry in WW2, and bolt action rifles already existed in huge numbers hot off WW1, and were significantly cheaper and faster to make, as well as more reliable and serviceable in the field, than their newer semi-auto and automatic alternatives. Still, in WW2 I give a pass because these weapons did exist, and were common... but fancy optics and red dot's and shit... nope. Much like the (semi)autos of WWI, they existed, but they were basically prototypes. Optics would have been incredibly simple, and often permanently affixed to a weapon built for sniping (and would have been extremely rare). Beyond that, it was all irons. Nobody was strapping experimental red dots do their Thompsons. Nobody. For me, this ruins the setting. If I want a game that plays like a modern game, ill play a modern game. When I play a historical shooter, I want it to play like a historical shooter, not a modern shooter with a historical skin. Vietnam is no different. Even though it saw the birth of the modern assault rifle, there would have been very little customization going on, due to cost and availability. Once again, nobody running around with red dots.

I would have loved a faithful recreation of 1942, and I'd equally love a faithful recreation of Vietnam. But those days are gone. The Call of Duty kids need to be able to be able to put six attachments on their gun and then give it hot pink tiger stripes or else there's no fun to be had... and that's why we'll never see a mainstream, accurate historical shooter again. They'll either be modernized to be mainstream, or they'll be niche to be accurate. Never both.

Battlelog was a steaming pile. Exit the game to use the web for a server browser.
Not wrong.

Now if they say, integrated it into the game, it wouldn't have been shit, but it wasnt, it was shit.

Just alt-tab and click another server. Couldn't be easier or faster.

Plus you don't need even to look at a load screen. The game did everything in the background and told you when it was ready so you could switch back in.

It was perfect.

I wouldn't mind seeing a late Cold War game, but I think that is better for an intermediate game. Modern is the best setting. Do a modern game, then change it up a bit with a Cold War themed game, then back to modern.

Vietnam is a bit limiting weapon, vehicle and map wise. Yes we can exaggerate, but then you may as well just expand it to a fictional Cold War which can span multiple countries.

Obviously we need to completely flip the table over and go high fantasy.

I want to play Rush and get pissed off that my team picked all dwarfs sitting back with sniper-bluderbusses instead of pushing the objective.

"Bro why am I the only fucking wizard on this team"

Absolutely agree on all points

Just accept that DICE doesn't know how to make decent games anymore and whatever they release is just going to be trash. They literally fucked up a remake of a game they released 18 years ago....all they needed to do was modernise what was already there, but nope they couldn't even manage that.

Dont forget BF4 was only good because it was the re-release of BF3 after they unfucked it.

I like what DICE has been doing. They always are out in front when it comes to pushing the hardware.

And it wasn't even good at release, it was an absolute fucking mess which required 12 months of patching by DICE LA before it finally reached an acceptable state.
Fair enough. But it wasn't bf3 bad. In comparison I remember it being an improvement. Was likely still hot garbage.

I read somewhere recently, that BF6 will be out late Fall 2021, go back to current 21st century military, and follow BF3 design they said.

I'm interested, but only in trying the open beta.

The last time I preordered a BF game, I ended-up not liking the changes. BF1 beta just bored me to-death (
and I skipped 5 after hearing what a cluster that one was)
