LG 48CX

Doom 64 running at 4K/120Hz is amazingly smooth and sharp. What a way to replay an old classic. I'm firing up various games that I've been playing just to re-experience them on this thing...amazing.

I'm thrilled with this thing so far.

If the Vizio turns out to be somehow better then I'll get that too and use this one as a bedroom TV or something. I want this house to be all OLED at some point. :)

Does changing the input type actually do anything? i.e. in

Home -> Home Settings (cog icon) -> HDMI port -> PC input

I haven't seen anything new in my PC settings. I have a GTX 1080 card, so I'm not sure if I can enable G-sync over HDMI, even at 60Hz? Unless I'm missing something.

Welcome to the spoiled bastard club! Good luck ever trying to ever go back to an LCD lol

Well, I've been spoiled as far as image quality (have had my 55B7 since Oct. 2017 and used it as my monitor all of that time) but this is my first foray into 4K @ 120Hz with the G-Sync/VRR/BFI goodies, and it's everything I imagined. :)

If you have any DX9 games you want to try, look into GeDoSaTo. It's tool you could use to downsample from 8k.

Yea, I had the C6,C7 & have a C9 in the living room

But everything changed when I got the Alienware 55 OLED 4k120....was a totally different world gaming at that resolution, refresh + Oled & VRR!

I would like to see an old CRT bastard like myself comment on this monitor.

I compared my 55" GX to the 55" Q95T and although the former is of course better for movies and TV I kind of expected the later to be better for general PC stuff. I was wrong. It went back the day after I compared them side by side. It takes a bit of tinkering to get text right for the OLED, first you need to switch from ClearType to Greyscale, then you need to change the system font as well to someone that isn't made for ClearType (like the default Tahoma UI is). Finally, remember that some programs like web browsers etc have their own text rendering and does not give a rats ass about what Windows settings you might have.

‘thanks for the info! I did box up the 55” CX. I’m still up in the air on which way to go. I’ve got a 49” Q80T on order, and will Compare it to my JS9000. Due to my setup, I really like the curved displays, but that seems to be a thing of the past. Still very happy with my setup, so any change has to really be an amazing difference for me to justify the price.

just for reference (and fun!) , here’s my setup...!

I WANT IT!!!!

Someone want to come over and bring it up the steps for me and put it on my desk?

2 meters. Got a response from club3d. They’re stating 4:4:4 hdr 4k is not possible since the 40gbps limitation of the cx48 and it would require 40.1gbps.
Can the adapter do 4K 120 Hz HDR 8-bit with dithering RGB or YCbCr444? Windows should use dithering with HDR in 8-bit mode.

However, 4k @ 120hz 4:4:4 with CVT-RBv2 timings requires 25.8 Gbps, which should be just under the limit.
Is this for 10-bit or 8-bit?

WTF I log onto BeachCamera and says my order was cancelled. I ordered when they still had 4 in stock. No email explaining why or nothing. What a shit show. Good thing I still kept my B&H order as a backup.

Vizio dropped the ball BIG TIME on appealing to the PC market.

Their 120hz @ 4K doesn't start until 65"
That 3000 nit peak brightness looks tasty, though, and only $1,500 for 65". I almost went with the original Quantum when I got my C8, which had a 1400 nit peak brightness. I couldn't go back to LCD after experiencing the color of an OLED, though, regardless of the brightness.

I'd like some confirmation of that from vizio. according to CNET :
Like the 2020 LCD-based models it announced, Vizio's OLED TVs will include the company's own IQ Ultra Processor for picture processing along with a "ProGaming Engine" with AMD's FreeSync and 4K/120Hz compatibility. They will also offer Vizio's SmartCast 4.0 for streaming and media playback while connectivity includes HDMI 2.1 ports across the board plus a single eARC port (handy for new soundbars like the Sonos Arc). The design is super sleek with a 4 mm bezel

As you can see by the distance from my keyboard to the panel, I was able to push it back a good bit into the corner due to the 48" being less wide. It really is more comfortable overall. Another thing I really like about the CX is that the bezels are black, vs. the silver bezels of the B7. Looks really good.

I believe the p quantum X does not start until you get to 65 inches, but the chart showing the 55" models only going up to 60Hz did not include oleds. The oled refresh rates were not listed on that page. I'd be shocked if Vizios 55" oled did not support 120Hz since every other oled released in the US has a 120Hz panel, and if they are coming with hdmi 2.1 why NOT support that?

Watching the SpaceX launch made me crave a space game and it had been on my wishlist for a while. I'm enjoying it, but it's definitely a slower paced story-based game with some light puzzle action and is supposedly a little on the short side. I'm fine with all of that, but action junkies may be disappointed. It's very nice looking though, and supports RTX, so it's a good showcase. I'd recommend Prey (2017) if you're looking for more of a shooter that's set in space. :)

Ok - just received and tested stuff for an hour with the CAC-1085 DP1.4 to HDMI2.1 adapter. At this point I CANNOT recommend this product. It's flawed running on my 2080TI and CX48. This is what i send to Club3d Support:
  • Everytime I change resolution or HDR on/off or change the color profile (bits, chroma or RGC) – the adapter looses signal. Only way to recover is pull the USB Power and put it back in;
  • Even when moving from in game back to windows (disabling HDR) e.g. in RDR2 – it looses signal;
  • When login into windows (switching from lock screen to desktop) it looses signal;
  • HDR increases the brightness of the entire panel;
  • I’m not able to run 4:4:4. Only 4:2:2 or RGB;
  • GSync is NOT supported;
  • Custom Resolution (36840x1600) is NOT supported. Black screen like before;
  • Custom Resolution (3440x1440) at 120 hz 1:1 is supported but only at 8-bit - and NO G-Sync.
Just switched back to HDMI - Text is better readable... there is something wrong with the full RGB / HDR that causes text to be fuzzy.

Could you test if 1080p 120hz 1:1 scaling (no scaling) works now? So you have something like a 25inch window in the middle. You have to evalute in windows display settings under advanced that the activ displaysignal is 4K 120Hz. Currently the activ display signal is limited to 1440p when using 1080p120hz with no scaling. Thank you :)

That is sexy classy for sure. Where do you live, in a museum! Great job.

Hey guys this seems to be a prominent place to discuss this TV. Mine should arrive next week.

CX just got a firmware update yesterday that adds Freesync which supposedly doesn't suffer from the elevated gamma issue.

Pretty nice that now you don't have to be tied to one GPU vendor.

No updates found on my 48CX just now. Currently running 03.00.60

Maybe we can manually grab it if they haven't pushed it out yet?

I just got my 48cx tonight but i have doubt its an upgrade to my current pana plasma 42.
The problems i have is mainly the huge response time when using 60hz.
I have always used 60 hz since thats what the refresh rate is of the plasma.
I get super good response time. Perfect smooth motion with no blur.
And 60hz/fps means i can use max settings on games.

But now with this 48 oled using 60 hz the response time is terrible as well as motion smoothness. If i use 120hz instead its much better. Almost as good as plasma. But then i get stutter in games since my 1080ti can not keep 120fps all the time.

Why is there so much lag and stutter when using 60hz on the LG? Is there some setting i am missing?

Got mine from Video Only, $1400 and a free 3 year warranty (that probably doesn't cover burn in).

Just checked. No update avail. Still 300.70.
