CDW Outlet Finds

Is 5% the max discount they ever offer with ordering new from them?

Here is a nice X299 motherboard I found. It's a shame there are no decent cheap processors for this platform.

https://www.cdw.com/product/evga-x299-ftw-k-motherboard-bstk/5994184?enkwrd=motherboard

I realize the motherboard is no longer available as of now, but: if you can find a deal on a 7640x or 7740x, that's not a half-bad quad core setup. They'll overclock well due to more stable power delivery. But they don't fully support the platform's capabilities - four of those memory slots would effectively lie fallow and they're short on PCI Express lanes compared to the chips designed for x299. You might be able to track down a 7800x or a 7820x for a price that isn't criminal on a secondhand market. If you're leaning hard on AVX, memory bandwidth, or PCIe lanes and can reliably cool it, I wouldn't turn up my nose on principle. But a 3700X in an x570 motherboard with zippy DDR4 and a nice cooler will probably be cheaper, and performance will be highly competitive with PBO enabled. The core problem you've mentioned remains true. The x299 platform's been pinched between high prices, lack of availability, and remorseless competition from less expensive AMD parts.

Holy Crap! Did CDW raise their shipping prices? Bought a UPS a month ago and shipping was $100, was looking for another similar one and they want $175 to ship it!
Not that I know of. That must be a massive UPS.

I know they have some flexibility with shipping, so I would just mention you only paid $100 for shipping on the last order and see what they can do.

Outlet discounts are much more than 5%, and tbh I have no idea where the 5% comes from because I don't even get that on regular purchases and I've been buying from them since the 1990s.

I don't know what's going on but the outlet has been the most bare I've ever seen it lately. Not sure if it is because of a drop in sales so less returns or simply that people are not returning as much. Either way, it's making the deals slim pickings. :(

However, that being said I found a monster of a deal on a monster of a ups--5Kva for $999 that's normally well north of $3000. :) And they have 5 of them, one which hasn't dropped to $999 yet:

This is NOT a 120v version so you'll need to make sure you have the power for this thing and it will probably require freight to ship it, but considering that this even comes with $250k worth of equipment protection, it's a steal at this price even if shipping costs a couple of hundred bucks (which it better not--I hope freight costs haven't increased like that).

And I just saw this unit on the smaller side of UPS loads at 750va for $120. :) These are going for $300+ almost anywhere else, so solid deal and they have 4 of them, one of which hasn't hit the $120 price point yet. Shipping on these should be like $25:

Okay, so not the usual thing I look for but since I know there's people doing home projects--Samsung 4k 2TB 4ch 2TB NVR that's normally $400+:
https://www.cdw.com/product/hanwha-4k-nvr-2tb-4ch-bstk/6002213?pfm=srh

Couple that with some 2MP vandal dome cameras for $100/ea that are normally $200+:

https://www.cdw.com/product/hanwha-2mp-ir-vandal-dome-cam-bstk/6001790?pfm=srh

And finish it out with a 4MP samsung camera for $72 that's normally $150:
https://www.cdw.com/product/hanwha-wisenet-hd-4mp-ir-dome-cam/6010372?pfm=srh

Or a Hikvision 5MP camera for $60 that's normally $150:
https://www.cdw.com/product/hikvision-5mp-outdoor-ir-dome-camera/6019959?pfm=srh

And you've got a nice multi-MP security system on the cheap. I haven't fully checked all these components for compatibility so check out all the specs, manuals, etc to make sure this will work before you pull the trigger.

And remember to keep security cameras off the Internet folks!

Thanks, SamirD. I snagged one for my server. I have a cheaper 600VA APC on it now, but I figured for $150 shipped with tax (shipping was only $17) it would be a worthwhile investment. I may even mod it with an external battery, as I found a few folks online that have done it.

I'm very tempted by those 750VA for a home network backup (router, AP, modem, RPi).

Pure sine wave, $150. Dang. Like that it has outlets on the back too, much cleaner.

Any downsides/restrictions to using one of these in a home situation?

with IP cameras MP doesn't mean squat there are 2 and 3mp cameras that miles better than 5mp Cameras, especially ones with the sony starlite sensor in them

Got a 1500 sitting under my desk right now. Can't think of any downside, outside of making sure you have the space for it. It's about as large as having a cinder block under your desk

Really wanted a rack mounted UPS . But the price difference is crazy. Might just make a shelf under my rack and set it down there. Not like anybody will see it any way.

Careful buying a rackmount UPS from CDW, bought two and both came heavily damaged due to poor packaging

Thanks , guess I’ll just order a normal one. Don’t really need to take up any more rack space any way. Had to half my rack to get it to fit in the wall.

I'm not sure if I should thank you or curse you. 😆 Picked one of these up for my kids' pc and another larger one for that server I'm getting from Gilbot. I did call in though to make sure I actually get the items so thanks for that tip.

Outlet discounts mean nothing if what your looking for is on their actual store and never hits the outlet or your not looking to wait around for it to. Maybe the 5% is for a first time order I dunno but it's clearly on my account. So I guess it's a one time thing and/or they never offer a higher discount then the 5%. LOL doesn't matter anymore I got what I was looking for cheaper after tax elsewhere even with the 5%.

Sweet! You'll be happy with it. I've got some of the ancestors of this guy still working today. :)

You'd be really happy with it. It would do exactly what you want and do it well. (y)

True as with all cameras it's all about the lens. Still, they are cheap compared to their normal prices so they are deals on that level. ;)

And as heavy as one too. :D I don't think about moving my 1000va units without stretching first, lol.

There's some solid deals on rack units usually, so just keep an eye out if you want one. ;)

But this is very solid advice. The only time I lost is when I had 2x rack units shipped without proper packaging and they got damaged, and CDWs returns and my supposed sales rep messed up the returns so I lost out. Still pissed about this today since it cost me over $300, but I'm still ahead overall getting stuff from the outlet. The worst part was that the UPS was for my mom's breathing machine when she was still alive (lost her last March :cry::cry: really miss you this weekend mommy). I got a replacement from Provantage's open box that was properly packed and arrived unharmed.

Once you get your shipment you'll know which way to go. :ROFLMAO: Glad you called them because it sounds like all 4 were bought here in this thread! If anyone didn't get theirs, I'd be curious to know because that means there's a lot more people watching this thread than just us.

It would be interesting to compare pricing. I get a very slight additional discount on any items I order (usually a few cents), but it's definitely not 5%

Got one of these for under 100 shipped:

https://m.cdw.com/product/eaton-5s-global-1500va-tow-208-230v/6009098?pfm=srh

Seems like a good deal for a decent 1500va UPS for my workstation. Any thoughts/experiences or should I cancel?
It's the 230V version with a c14 input connector, so if you were intending to use this with normal 120V power, you'll probably need to cancel:
https://www.eaton.com/us/en-us/skuPage.5S1500G.specifications.html
Yeah just realized that, canceling...thanks for the save guys. The part # on the outlet links back to the regular 110v version here: https://m.cdw.com/product/Eaton-5S-1500G-UPS-900-Watt-1500-VA/3395546 , got my hopes there for a bit.
Yeah, and a lot of times it is because of catalog mistakes like that, that things end up in the outlet, so you have to check the manufacturer's part number for specs and not necessarily rely on what CDW has on their site. Just another one of the outlet caveats, but as you can see if someone was looking for these exact part numbers, it's a steal of a price. :)

If the 750VAs are gone, I didn't get to snag one. When it comes to $$$ and purchases, I'm both overly (too) careful and indecisive, even if I can afford them. I often lose out on items because of delaying my own purchase.

After managing money extremely poorly a decade ago and burning myself with debt and clawing out of it- I can see how those scars still stick around (but now I've got good credit at least! :p)

The good thing about outlet deals is that there will always be another. ;) I've always told myself that if I was only halfway on an item and it went to someone else that maybe they needed it more than I did, or that there's a better item waiting for me. And a lot of times, these things have been true too. (y)

Managing money well is all about making correct decisions for one's financial well-being. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying nothing until you really want/need it. It's how my first car was a Porsche Boxster I paid for with a check out of my savings. (y)

I see some T630 thin clients floating around

$154.99. Not sure how great of a deal that is overall but definitely decent compared to new price. 8GB RAM / 128GB flash variant (which i think is the highest configuration for these?)
Might be better off with a mini PC like a ThinkCentre Tiny or something, but I believe these may be fanless? I can't tell.

The CPUs in these are pre-Ryzen, correct? I think they came out in 2017.

I've had a couple of these and they're nice little systems and they are fanless.

The CPU is based on the Excavator core, so it is pre-Zen, but it is quad core and has AVX2 instructions. And only 16.1W (although I never did check it with a power meter).

One thing to be aware of though is that while they do have two M.2 slots, they do not support NVMe SSDs.

Would you use these as mini desktops, or thin client as marketted? Kind of off-topic for this thread, but the thin client concept appeals to me, but I can't figure out how I would setup the server end.

Personally, I'd either use them as fanless mini-desktops or headless mini-servers, like for pi-hole/ftp/network stuff/etc - like a more robust, self-contained RPi (though you can get more power for your money going with other used mini PCs, typically not fanless though). I've had a lot of ideas for these but generally the cost is a bit high for the power you get (nice connectivity / port options, though too).

Or, I'd use them as a thin-client that accesses an RPi or other machine, using VNC or something like that- I think it should be powerful enough to use simple graphical remote tools- not using whatever server/etc they were originally intended to run from.
