What the heck! That is nuts, sounds like a weird bug and may explain why it takes so many damn slashes to take out a zombie. I run high settings and fps isn't super high maybe in the 50s. I stopped using the knife other than for a slash and run.

I'd hate to say this but just by looking at game footage on YouTube I'm not liking the remake at all. The graphics look way too polished and clean and just too generic. I think that the static camera angle on the original version made the game scarier. I mean, they could have made the graphics gritty or not so clean looking. By the way Code Veronica was the best version. :)

You have to play it. The game is amazing. It will give you that classic Resident Evil feeling, despite the camera angle. Can't give it enough praise.

Also, if you want scary, this game will scare you, even if you think it won't, like I did.

The demo is still available for a few more hours today!

+1 on having the classic Resident Evil feel. Honestly I wish there were more games like this. Super linear, always progressing, puzzles which never frustrate or feel like a chore. It brings me back to a time where games were simpler. It's a lean, mean, no bs game.

Agreed, It really is, and if you play it on Hardcore (traditional ink ribbon saves) it promotes thought, many times have I had to decide to save or keep going, and many times I've died and had to reload because of it, or make the wrong decision on which windows to board up, only to go back though an area infested by zombies, its hard on you, but really rewarding if you get though it. Heh, that or I am just not really good at it lol.

Like others have said it just works very well. You still get the jump scares and it is still very moody and atmospheric. The visuals are so well done it gives off the pre-rendered feel from the past. They did well, try the demo while you can.

Probably tied to either hit detection or the physics engine somehow; I imagine that will get patched fairly quickly.

I have a lot of tolerance for weak graphics if the game is well done. Resident Evil 0 remastered looks downright hideous in some areas, but Im just happy to be playing a modernized anything when it comes to the classic resident evils. code veronica remaster pleeeease!

How do the mouse/keyboard controls feel compared to using a controller?
I've only played with a controller so far. I'd rather play mouse and keyboard but the wife wants to watch me play which means outputting it to the big TV in the room and playing on the sofa with a controller.

If it's a big improvement with mouse/keyboard I just might have to tell the wife she has to settle with watching me play on the 24" monitor instead of the 65" tv, lol.

The game plays like it was meant for it. Aiming is precise and the default layout is good. It doesn't feel half baked at all.

Awesome, good to know.
It sounds like I'm going to have a much easier time dropping the controller for kb/mouse. I keep missing which should be pretty easy headshots, haha.

I beat Claire A hardcore with a controller, it was hard, doing Leon B with kb/mouse and it seems much easier. I could never get used to quick turning with the controller either. I even practiced it for about 15 minutes and I just suck at it.

I think it's great, already did Leon A & Claire B on Hardcore, currently running Claire A.
Story is still dumb and it's not very scary, but that goes for every RE game ever made.

Just booted this game up, man, it looks and runs great. Not sure what my framerate is but it's super smooth and looks awesome on the oled. Really surprised to see HDR and all the graphics options. This is gonna be good.

One complaint though, I loved the lasers on the guns in RE4, so much more immersive than a reticle that pops up when you right click, why can't we get that back?

It looks like clone screen with mixed refresh rates has been fixed. I tried it along time ago when i first got my 144hz screen it just looked like a flickering mess.
This solves my dilemma of letting the wife to watch me play on the big screen while I play mouse and keyboard on my monitor.

While it controls well with the controller, I've had a much easier time using mouse and keyboard. I can land all those headshots way easier now.

So far I'm very impressed with this remake. It still has that horror feel of the original.

Leon's Hawk gun have a mod for it.

I've played through the campaign 3 times. The game is a work of art with respect to graphic, pacing, suspense, and gameplay.

It isn't the perfect game, but it's the best remake/reimagining of a game I've ever played.

For me I prefer controller on weekdays after work so I can kick back and relax. Weekends I use mouse+keyboard. I always use M+K in first person games though since its feels natural, not sure how people do it on a controller.

In addition to the mod for the Lightning Hawk mentioned above, the JMB Hp3 comes with a laser attachment when you find it.

That'll help I guess. I just really don't like the crosshair in this game; I can't stand the delay before it gets accurate and it's big and just generally immersion breaking. A faint shimmer from items and lasers on guns and this game has essentially no HUD.

Something else that amazes me about this game is the load times. I know the environments are small but hot damn, it literally takes 3 seconds to load. That's faster than opening a single door in the original RE2. And the fact that all the title cards are skippable is icing on the cake. I've never been able to jump into a game so fast from the windows desktop.

So very true even getting from nothing to main menu is pretty quick. It is impressive. Need more like this!

Loading a save literally only takes about a second on the PC in my sig. I see a quick flash of the loading screen as the progress bar on the bottom-left says 90% and I'm in. I had to play the Xbox version to see what info the loading screens were giving.

This game has severe issues when it comes to communicating information to the player. I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. Find an item, go to a place, do some kind of action - just give us a hint for FFS. The game just doesn't have any kind of objective description anywhere despite constantly telling the player to press TAB + E, which just brings you to your inventory and similar. Eventually you'll stumble upon something and progress a tiny bit but then its back to figuring out what the game wants you to do. Meanwhile you run through the same areas dozens of times and keep blasting the same damn zombies over and over again which just gets tedious. I know its a remake of an old game, but they could've added some cohesion and sense to the action.

To top it off, its a terrible port. Lots of random crashes and sometimes you randomly loose any control from the mouse/keyboard. If you have a controller plugged in you can't disable it. Pretty much every other game I've played lets you switch between the two on the fly, but this one defaults to controller first. Unplugging it is an easy fix, but I'm amazed they botched xbox controller implantation so badly.

You have to rely on your map, the rooms that are indicated in blue are the rooms you have cleared and there is nothing else to find or do. The rooms highlighted in Red are rooms that still need to be visited or there is an objective.

Also, when you open your map at the top left, your current objective is displayed.

My thoughts were that is wasn't a port at all, to me it seems that it was made for PC first in regards to all the PC friendly options. As for performance issues, I have had none what so ever. It plays like a dream on my 6700K / RTX 2070 @ 1440p I even have G-Sync working on my Freesync display.

Are you playing in Direct X 11 or 12? Play in DX11. Also, if you have Volumetric Lighting on high, change it to Medium, there is virtually no difference in image quality loss from high to medium, but you'll gain a whole lot of fps.

I get crashing & freezing. Runs fine outside of that, but I did get a warning due to not having enough VRAM (8GB RTX 2070). Menus can be "sticky" though. Seems like a lot of people have the issue and it might be due to OCed video cards.

How exactly do you open combination safes?

Have you updated to the latest video drivers? Think they are 418.xx. Make sure your CPU overclock is stable. I think the VRAM Warning system is messed up, I'm playing on 8GB (in the red) and dont have any issues. I don't have my 2070 overclocked though.

You find the codes to the combination safes & lockers through rolls of film you find that give you clues or documents you find throughout the game.

Good tips here,

I don't have the latest currently. I'll probably install them as I assume it may help. Safes wouldn't recognize the inputs until I exited the games. Lockers worked fine. Now I just can't figure out how to equip and throw grenades. If I click equip there is still no way to toss them unless a zombie has hands on me in which case it is a QTE. Is that the only way to use them? Google doesn't bring up any results aside from "equip them". I assumed you'd be able to put them in slots 1-4 like the pistol / shotgun.

Definitely not enjoying this one so far. I think I've spend more time on google trying to figure out how to do the most basic actions then actually playing the game. Classic example of poor GUI and lack of reasonable communication to the player. Which is too bad because I actually though it was more interesting than RE7.

I play with a mouse and keyboard, so I equip he grenade in the inventory then hold spacebar ready it, and left click to throw it.

You should install the latest drivers and see if that clears up your performance issues.

I think I've gotten stuck for a short while once because I'm an idiot and forgot you could examine objects and
picked up the fucking picture frame with the key on the back of it like 3 times without actually turning it around.

and once more when I somehow ran past the fucking room with the bar for the jack in the library to let the bookcase down and couldn't figure out where the piece of shit was.

Other than that, look at your map, most puzzles are pretty darn obvious. Like oh steam is blocking my way and this fucking pipe is clearly missing a valve... 10 minutes later you stumble upon a valve... guess where it goes.

Puzzles themselves aren't a problem but early in the game figuring out what you needed to do was a pain. I think for four hours of gameplay your objective was "get three medallions". Game gets much better later on though.
