Looks like those My Nintendo Gold Points can be used when purchasing the online subscription. 1 point=1 cent so if you've got 2,000 points (and they don't expire before the 18th) you can get a year for free.

I have no intention of ever using any of this nonstalgia emulator stuff, but I'm hoping all of this helps the Switch's online play network. As of right now it's shaky at best and atrocious more often than not.

Some actual capability for voice chat without having to use a smartphone app would be nice.

Still not a very compelling "service" to buy regardless.

I agree. I think I'm just hopeful that games like Street Fighter, Smash, and Mario Kart will be more playable in the future. If it takes a yearly subscription to make that happen, I guess I'm willing to deal with it.

Any one have any clarification on this?

From what I'm reading, my understanding is that this is all account based. I have a switch with a nintendo/eshop account linked to my user account on the switch. My son also has a user on the switch with no nintendo account linked. He won't be able to use the online features unless he has a nintendo account with the subscription plan. Which means I have to get the family plan. Is this the correct take on this?

On the other hand the family plan doesn't really seem to have many restrictions, meaning 8 people can split the cost of $35 a year and get the online features for < $5 a year.

Note: I don't own any of the other consoles (xbox, ps) so I don't know how the online service for those systems work. Are they all account based as well or console based?

You have 1 physical Switch and 2 accounts playing the same Switch. I would doubt you need more then 1 account.
Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions can be purchased in one-month (US $4 / £3.49 / AU $6), three-month (US $8 / £7 / AU $12), and 12-month (US $20 / £18 / AU $30) increments. Nintendo is also offering an annual Family Plan for US $35 / £31.49 / AU $55, which allows up to eight Nintendo Account holders in the same family group to take advantage of the service, even across different Switch consoles. You'll be able to try the service for free for seven days when it launches.

Wow it seems it is linked to user accounts rather then physical unit . https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/faq/

I would send them an email about this or any other form of communication.

I bought the 1 year subscription and had immediate access to all the games available and I'm not sure why but its great to play these games on the switch.

The old school NES controllers are now available for preorder, I just ordered them and they were $68.32, expected delivery is 12/7-12/12.

8bitdo NES 30 pro :)

Or their diy kit in an original (nes, snes, or genesis) controller ^_^

That would make the whole subscription thing a lot more palatable. I still have yet to sign up but it's not far off.

There is the option for a free trial of one week, just be aware of the automatic monthly extension. So don't forget to change it if you decide to cancel, change the period or kind of subscription.

These old ones games are emulated kinda crap.

Feel very laggy compared to my real Nintendo on the same TV(real bad on my crt)

Yikes, that sucks... I noticed that with the NES Classic, but assumed it was partly due to the TV.... Do they lag the same way in handheld mode?

According to some of the Switch modding community, they are just straight-up .NES file rips that were likely pulled from ROM sites (something about headers, etc.).

I bought the year subscription because, let's be real, eventually I'm going to want to do MHGU online play. I checked out some of the NES titles, seems alright though not a real great selection yet. They need to get some SNES titles up in there.

Also, I just discovered this game from a Reddit post, called "Light Fingers" - looks pretty cool as a local 4-player co-op game, sorta like Mario Party maybe?

I really dig the mechanized board game aesthetic. Might have to pick it up.

That is so funny it would explain why people are able to swap different roms and play them using the Switch.

Not surprising. It is quick and easy to get ROMs and it is like someone could sue sue them over it.

Now it seems that Nintendo is keeping cloud saves up to 6 months. After subscription ends.

So, has anyone here used SX OS or anything to rip legit carts to microSD? I don't really have any interest in non-legit copies of stuff, but I'd love to be able to have all of my carts digitally on the system. ONLY if there's no threat of having my Switch blacklisted, of course.

Not quite sure where to start since most of the scene seems to be mostly interested in pirated stuff or general homebrew.

At this point I don't think there is any way to use any Homebrew without risking a ban. I have seen a few reports sinces 6.0 launched of people claiming zero pirating and still being banned. Honestly not worth the risk

Question. What is the best SD card to use for the Switch?

Is a Sandisk Ultra fine speed wise:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1170202-REG/sandisk_sdsqunc_032g_an6ia_sandisk.html

Or does the Extreme Sandisk give a performance gain?:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...xwg_032g_ancma_extreme_plus_microsd_32gb.html

Huge price different, but does it matter for performance? Most reviews I see seem to mention 128GB models. Samsung also has an Evo 32GB for $10.

I mostly use cartridges (to sell the games if I want to) so a massive amount of space isn't needed but may get a 64GB anyways. Any suggestions for those?

The problem is Nintendo you never know how stupid there willing to go on banning people. Today there not banning people but that does not mean they won't target it in the future.

It is different, the speed on the card is limited on the Switch hardware so buying something 2 times as fast as basic card doesn't mean you get the same performance gain on the Switch (lets say the Switch hardware limit is 20MB/s).
On youtube there are some tests done.

Yeah I'm looking at this benchmark:
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...-best-micro-sd-cards-for-nintendo-switch-7000

No real difference in load times between the two. I'll get the cheaper Sandisk if it ends up being less than the Samsung.

Can I use an Micro SD adapter that came with a 16GB (SDHC) with a 64GB Mico SDXC?

I have this card:
https://www.amazon.ca/SanDisk-Ultra...&qid=1538087148&sr=8-1&keywords=sandisk+200gb

basically, don't go past UHS-1 speed as that's all the reader can handle and anything past that will actually slow it down.

Can't speak on speed, but I recently bought a Microcenter branded 256gb MicroSD for $60 the other day for my phone.

Crazy low price that, no issues as of yet. Works great so far for me. Any Android programs I could run to test its speed?

At this point, the only way I'd recommend messing around with Homebrew stuff on the Switch would be to do it on a non-primary system that you don't care about being blacklisted.

That is the downside of the Switch, it is very pricey. Wish they had a cheaper 2DS like version. I know it will come but it is likely a ways off. Best price you can hope for is ~$240 on ebay and having it blocked from online would suck.

Yea what a disappointment. These online games were pretty much the only thing that switch has me interested in for many months. Considering selling now :(

pro grip is finally here https://imgur.com/a/9MJudpO it was definately worth the wait, now I can play dual stick games much more comfortably in handheld mode plus the case looks sick ! :D

Looks cool. I got that Skull & Co Gripcase and honestly, after using it for awhile, it's not that amazing. I actually see why you would want the asymmetric grips, based on how the Joy-Cons are designed. The Gripcase isn't that comfortable for me. It's better than the stock Switch, for sure, but could be a lot better.

I put mine up for sale the same day this baby arrived in the mail ^ the case itself is pretty convenient and the trigger grips are ok for "lazy games" like octopath traveler but once you start rotating the camera around in more demanding ones with the right stick and/or mash the side buttons like a maniac in bayonetta, it pretty much forces you to go tabletop mode and take out that pro controller.

stock switch on the go is the worst possible experience imo, this must be their most uncomfortable handheld to date :/

I think that it's more suitable for larger hand sizes, mine are small-medium ( 18cm with short chubby fingers ) so it won't replace my pro controller when i want to try-hard in some games, but it's close enough :)

Appreciate the link. I went ahead and ordered one. I really like how the case fits it with the grip attached so I wont have to take it off all the time.

seems to me the left hand would benefit from the same grip as the right for comfortable access the lower buttons... or are they never really used in any game?

They aren't typically used that often, or at least not as a primary function. Usually, you can use them as an alternative to the stick in side-scrollers and such. The vast majority of the time you're using the left stick.
