With Smash now coming out in December, looks like my Switch probably won't be getting a ton of action any time soon. The Dark Souls delay certainly didn't help. I was thinking of getting the game on multiple platforms, but at this point I've lost interest.

The Switch has completely revolutionized my travel experience (I travel a lot for work). I mainly play Rocket League, Monster Hunter, and Fortnite on my PC and PS4 as my go to games in-between big game releases. The Switch can play all three. With Smash coming in December it only gets better.

There's no way to play the original Metroid Prime series on Switch is there? I kinda want to dip my toes into the Nintendo pool, but not if all I want to play is like Zelda and Smash Bros.

Then the Switch isn't for you. Unless you have a hard-on for indie games on the go, Nintendo games are pretty much all there is minus one or two multi-plat games.

There is homebrew on the Switch now not to sure on what is available through those emulators..

I'd really like to see some non-JRPG, non-turn-based-combat RPGs on the Switch. Xenoblade and Octopath are great for a lot of people, I'm sure, but they're not for me from everything I've seen.

I guess there is Skyrim but...I've already played it. :p

Maybe in 2020?

Monster Hunter World?

This person unlocked all characters in 1 play trough in the demo of Octopath Traveler:

His channel has all the story mode unlocks with cut scenes per character.

Thinking of getting Switch. How is Doom and Skyrim on Swtich? I've never played either, what is the frame rate like and would you recommend?

Both are good, especially if you can appreciate what the switch is as opposed to OH SHINEY graphics...

Lately, been enjoying Forkknife... Works pretty well and the chat is cool.

Didn’t square do that?

Don’t get your hopes up

Square only did Super Mario RPG.

Paper Mario is an RPG in the same vain. There are 4 different ones each with unique mechanics.

Recommend Mario & Luigi games on DS. There are about 5 of those. Some are better than others but all are worth a play. These feel truer successor to the SNES Mario RPG but none really top it for me.

Was kind of thinking about buying the digital version of Octopath traveler when watching some youtubes on the subject and it seems that still a physical copy is better in the Nintendo universe since the digital one is so limited.
And you can still sell you copy rather then be stuck with it on your account.

I buy physical whenever possible but I'm playing my Switch at home 90% of the time so I don't need to worry about packing a bunch of games with me. What I really dislike is when Japan gets physical copies of games and the rest of the world is stuck with a download code.

Sometimes these have English language as well.
What I would hope that Nintendo develops a way where if you bought a physical copy regardless of language you would be allowed a language pack update for that physical copy.
If they would make it part of the developer kit it would be brilliant.

I'm hoping to eventually do what I did on the 3DS: Flash some sort of custom firmware and rip my physical games to digital. Digital is so convenient but I tend to get physical for the Amazon pre-order discount.

You can rip Switch games without custom firmware and you can play rips without custom firmware. All you need is a way to launch the software payload (PC, Android, etc. and a USB-C cord) and a jig to put your Switch into recovery mode.

Oh, nice...I have heard that people's Switches were getting banned from online doing something like that, though. True?

False, if you are playing your own rips. People getting banned are playing games online that lack the proper certificate, or they are using certificates ripped from a different game and injected into another, or they are playing or trying to play eshop games they don't own.

"ETA Prime" on Youtube has some really good videos up on the Switch regarding things such as this. He might not have the definitive answer, but will help point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the info - I'll definitely look into doing that.

Hoping to grab a switch by the end of next week and I'm so excited. Already purchased mario + rabbids since it was on sale for $25 cad lol. Dying to play odysse and botw and octopath travelers looks amazing to.

You do realize that you can only play 1 at a time :)

Haha I know, but just like any normal gamer there is way more I want to play than I have time to :p Atleast with the switch I can bring it to work and play on lunch/coffee

Just got a switch off kijiji, thing looks brand new (was put away in all its original plastic). Family bought it last year and no one ever played it. Payed $375 cad for the system + 3 games which is an amazing deal, even with promos band new it costs $420 for the system + 1 game then $80 for the games so I couldn't pass it up lol

Oddesey is prolly easy to finish :)

Got a Pro Controller. It feels great, also good quality. Much better than the Joycon grip. I only wished I had it earlier, have most of the Moons in Mario. The ones I don't have left I really have to look up on Google to figure out where they are. Played Mario Kart with it, and maybe I had a good night but I did better than previously. I paid $60 shipped with about $12 off on ebay.

Going through Breath of the Wild (hugely underwhelming) but will be looking into Starlink and Super Smash which this controller should greatly benefit.

Somehow, you having this opinion does not surprise me in the slightest. ;)

I'll be honest, I didn't think BoW would be anything like it is (12 or so hours in). Very barren. Either the game is exceptionally slow to get going, or it is very shallow. So far it is primarily running from A to B, picking up stuff, and fighting or running away from the same 5 or so enemy types to get to another puzzle or climb another tower. The only thing I like are the puzzles, because otherwise the game is so empty. It feels too much like a typical Ubisoft open world game to get 9 out of 10s from every review site. On top of just being perhaps the most repetitive AAA game in history, it is just a bad game simply put. Controls have registering problems (especially the shield which only deploys about 1/3 of the time you want to use it), camera control is very poor, and the forced motion controls mean you have to hold your controller perfectly level at chest height to perform basic combat actions. It simply isn't ergonomic at all.

The game would have been so much better if they simply cut out the world part and just offered it as a puzzle only game. In 2018 I don't expect a AAA game to comprise of 15 minutes of running around only to stop to pick up apples or mushrooms. It simply isn't acceptable. That being said, if people are that drawn to running around empty games and collecting mundane items, perhaps it is a good business opportunity for other developers. Why waste time crafting a game experience when you can literally make a sparse empty map with nothing of substance to do and sell millions of copies?

I had my issues with it...not really many of the ones you had, but still issues. The weapon durability bothered me and it resulted in me hoarding good weapons until the end of the game when I had no reason to use them anymore. I agree that some parts of the map can feel pretty barren, but I think in general there's a lot to do...not all of it is apparent (like many of the hidden Shrines) but it's there. I didn't have a problem with the controls, the motion controls with puzzles could be a bit frustrating for sure but they seemed accurate enough for the most part.

My big gripe with the game is the lack of classic Zelda dungeons where we instead got all the Shrines, plus the Champion beasts which were like...light dungeons.

I still have to say that I enjoyed the game immensely, it felt quite polished to me for an open world game, compared to others. As for the scores...I think in many minds, just being a new Zelda game got it 7 out of 10 points. Jim Sterling gave it a 7/10 and Nintendo fanboys lost their goddamn minds...lol.

I need to go back and do the DLC, I purchased it but by then I had finished the game so I kind of forgot about it.

I'm not gonna try to make you like the game, but... you're doing it wrong. Seriously, there should be no problem with controls whatsoever (I find them amazingly responsive, predictable, and comfortable.) You can use the motion control for aiming your bows or the "scope" thing, and just hold your control as you normally do. It will be centered from the controller's position when you pressed the aim/scope button, so just a gentle twist up/down/left/right is all you need. If that still seems like it's just not "compatible" with how your brain just naturally wants to control things, then you can turn motion controls completely off (at least, I'm pretty sure - I might be thinking of a different game.)

Your mind is obviously made up though, so that's a bummer (I never like to see someone miss out on an amazing gaming experience) but them's the breaks.
