NVIDIA Pulling Plug on GPP

Good job guy. I do wonder if this is really the end of it though.

Yeah, they will likely continue to push for similar things, but do it more sneakily and behind the scenes, so it doesn't trigger the same kind of outrage.

Hopefully this will still reach sites like this, so we can make a stink, and the FTC can get involved.

Edit: Fucking autocorrect...

"...rather than battling misinformation" ... get real.

A company as big, rich, and powerful as Nvidia could battle misinformation in a heartbeat with a single blog post stating the exact language of the GPP. The problem is they won't do that because they know the GPP is anti consumer and anti competitive, but don't want to admit it.

It's just beyond comprehension that Nvida can claim victim here considering they took not one second to address any of this. If they at least tried, and still couldn't get people to buy in, I would understand, but we didn't even get an attempt by them.

I am pretty sure they shut it all down because Kyle Bennett is a lying POS. Can't fight misinformation from one dude.

Well done Kyle for sticking to your guns as usual, leading the industry yet again. Thank you to your brave sources also! This is why we come here and we don't like shady shit like this.

Kyle 1 - Nvidia 0
beside if nvidia really wanted just to draw a line between brands they would have asked AIBs to make a New brand for them, not ask them to squize AMD out, so nough with the BS, the funny part is that you will find ppl defending them using that.
my guess the backlash wan'st the only reason, it's probably because the OEMs refused to sign, and the AIBs were pissed that gamers blamed them for accepting GPP.
the news broke too soon, didn't let GPP to become a reality, therefor alot harder to sustain with all the negative sentiment without tangible $ benefit for the ppl who signed to make them pounder.

Great news. Thanks for the your work Kyle. nVidia can say what they like, but we know what they were doing and it was wrong. Besides, I don't want AMD hurt. I want them to thrive. Hell, I want htem to put out a card that leads me to buying my first AMD card since the ATI X800 XL.

While I appreciate Kyle's hard work and balls,

It's a little late now that NVIDIA has already shoved AMD out of the "Gaming" brands by a number of mfg's. (At least for this go around) So damage done.

Have to wonder just how happy all those companies like Asus who as result GPP put funding into new brands like Arez, will these brands continue, or Nvidia offer some I'm sorry bucks or what???

In a sad way Nvidia is the huge winner here, they got a good part of what they wanted, and now will not have to pay for it by ending GPP (ends terms for companies already created new brands).

Way to go guys! Put those feet to the fire! Damage has been done already to these AIB partners affected along with AMD. Hopefully they will all be compensated by NVIDIA, jerk move to begin with and this looks just as bad on them. Nvidia, never again...

Smart move on nvidias part. There was no place to go but down. It did seem completely unnecessary, though certain people (like myself) tried to understand the decision as best as possible.

The question now becomes what actually changes?

But if they haven't actually produced anything under the other brands, will they go through with it? If they have just wasted marketing and graphic artists time putting together slide shows/websites, it would be a lot easier to trash it and not bother.

"A lot has been said recently about our GeForce Partner Program. The rumors, conjecture and mistruths go far beyond its intent. Rather than battling misinformation, we have decided to cancel the program."

how can they even say that? the "rather than batting misinformation" really bothers me. when did they battle? they arent even battling now.

ok but here is my real question. now that the gpp is done, is anyone going to publish all of the requirements are required to be part of the gpp?

guess they were about to get into a big battle and decided it would be cheaper not to battle.

So, I just went and read nVidia's blog post that Kyle linked to in the original post here, and it made me think of something.

With GPP, we asked our partners to brand their products in a way that would be crystal clear. The choice of GPU greatly defines a gaming platform. So, the GPU brand should be clearly transparent – no substitute GPUs hidden behind a pile of techno-jargon.
(Emphasis mine)

They talk there about "substitute GPUs." I've never heard of anyone getting any sort of "substitute" GPU in the US when they were specifically sold a GeForce card, but my exposure to crypto mining this year has had me running across stories periodically where people buy graphics cards in some foreign (mostly Asian as I remember) markets expecting one thing, and it turns out to be an older card that's had a hacked bios flashed onto it to make it appear to be a 10 series (fake 1060s seem to be the most common).

Is it possible that some sort of similar practice that we generally don't see here in the West where board manufacturers would sell products of dubious quality is really what nVidia meant to go after here?

LOL just read their blog. What a load of bullshit. ROFL! Oh we are being nice and canceling it because people aren't nice to us. ROFL! Yea if this was so great you stick to it. Looks like free choice won! If it was so great they would have given out the details and showed everyone how great it was. Instead of showing how they were forcing AIBs they just quit to save face. Hahaha

Looks like they never officially wanted to release any info on it. Instead canceled, rofl.

Can't wait to hear more. Great job Kyle and sources!

They need to start a tech investigative journalist award. Kyle has been hitting the nail on its head whether its truth about AMD or Nvidia!

Job Well done sir!

Great job Kyle!
Makes us all feel like we are a part of something bigger than a website or forum. Good to go!

As for GPP I think the "program" will still exist but under a "we don't talk about the new program" Fight Club mentality.

There ara other anticompetitive tactics that their lawyers will mull over this weekend.
That's coming from a guy building a Ryzen 2700x + Nvidia 1070 main rig tonight.
I've used boh over the years and prefer neither in the long run as far as gaming, ethics wise is a whole nother story.

Not sure if this move by nvidia is too late from an Federal Trade Commission standpoint. Only time and hungry lawyers can tell.

Cool ,all is forgiven......RIGHT?

Sadly, I think we have to. I mean, Nvidia isn't going to say "sorry" (sad, but true). At the same time, maybe now isn't the time to "forget", a "sorry" would've helped that out a bit.

In other words, sounds like what Nvidia is saying is that "they can never do anything wrong". But, we've heard that from lots of companies and gov't leaders.

So... what is Nvidia now? An arrogant bully lacking humility? Likely. Will this affect them revenue wise? Unlikely (because we're all lemmings).

Some branding has already been changed, "mission accomplished" for them.
