Oculus Rift Owners Thread

new question: I was having some trouble with my USB 3 connections when doing the initial startup (common problem), it kept saying my head-set was disconnected but I figured out it was actually the USB3 connection for the head-set.. have tons of on-board USB3 connections on my motherboard but I guess I'm running into the infamous 'bandwidth issues' regardless... moved one of the sensors to a USB2 port and the other to a front-panel USB3 port has fixed it, but I have two questions:
-does using usb2 instead of usb3 result in reduced tracking accuracy?
-would removing a front-panel addon USB3 panel that is currently unused (like this: https://cdn-reichelt.de/bilder/web/xxl_ws/E910/USB3_FRONTP2_01.png) help at all? it's behind my R5's door so I rarely connect anything to them anyway
here's some info about my motherboards USB layout:

If you have spare PCIe slot, getting an additional USB3 controller might be a way to get bandwidth to the headset reliably.

I am using all USB3.0 slots to power all three sensors, headset, and mouse/keyboard. Although using the third sensor with the "2.0" extension cable that came with it, is limiting one of the sensors to 2.0 speeds, and calls it as a 2.0 device.

Haven't had a lick of problems aside from the monitor (tv) through the DP port nor the headset will wake up after the display goes to sleep. The pc doesn't sleep, just the displays never power back up, regardless of KB/Mouse or power button to help wake it, I have to cycle power to the pc before the screens display again. running latest NVIDIA drivers. Anyone else experience this?

yeah thinking about it.. not really looking forward to having to add another SATA power cable to my case though, already have 6 drives going.. quite a mess

Tracking does not seem to be affected from what I've seen. I can run both cameras and the headset on my internal usb3 but added a separate usb3 card I had from a previous system for more ports, so now I run headset and 1 camera in on-board usb3 and one camera on the usb3 card. Works without it all on usb3 but I figure if I have it I might as well split the usb traffic up some.

found this reddit post which goes into more detail:

might try swapping the headset USB to a 2.0 port and the other sensor back to 3.0..

Was fooling around with Google Earth VR and just realized you can 'enter' buildings. What a trip. Top of One World Trade was CRAZY...

Been trying out Raw Data since it's free to try this weekend but I'm not feeling it. It just doesn't feel all that polished like Robo Recall does. The guns, the melee attacks, and even the bow don't feel very responsive and feels sluggish to use plus the controls/tracking feel off as well. Even the bow from The Lab VR demo feels better than this game's bow.

I'll give it a few more goes and see how it holds up.

I agree, I played through the training and two levels but quit after that.. I know the real draw for the game is the multiplayer though, but it doesn't interest me at the moment.. if I had a crew to roll with perhaps. I mostly don't like the teleporting, how you can't rotate your view angle and it doesn't slow down.. so you have to teleport then flick the stick twice to turn around.. sloppy. also the robots are just creepy!

Been playing Bullets and More VR. It is awesome! It's like CS:GO in VR. The single player against bots is pretty fun. Lots of maps and guns.

You can rotate, before letting go of the teleport button use the thumbstick to rotate the directional arrow, you will see the teleport landing marker moving the facing arrow, then release the button.

weird i tried it but didn't seem to work.. maybe its just not as obvious as in robo recall

Finally got Vudu movies to play on the Rift HMD using VR desktop... for some reason it would only play on the Monitor and not the HMD... netflix works perfectly but Vudu movies would not. Had to uninstall chrome...and reinstall with a flash plug in. Chrome is the only one that plays on the monitor and HMD.. firefox and edge only display on the monitor? ..weird. But i love watching movies using the Rift.. curved screen, its like going to the movies but better.

I have yet to try this.. is the resolution drop not noticeable? IE the actual video image is probably closer to 720p in reality.. my co-worker is contemplating getting a HMD just for watching movies.

I have similar lens protectors...haven't applied them yet, applying wet makes sense in as you can still maneuver it while it applied and then it can dry in place...i dunno.

yeah I guess it'd be easier to push out air bubbles.. hopefully can avoid getting the rest of the rift wet though. maybe i'll put down some papertowel around the lenses..

You don't have to take it into the shower...just a droplet of water will be more than enough...I bet the lens protector has microscopic holes that will draw the air/water out. Kind of like window tint.

..also.. has anyone had trouble with the head tracki

Well... yes and no. If you take off the headset look at a higher res screen then put the hmd back on your going to notice things. But the biggest hurdle is the screen door effect for most people. I found the more i use the rift the less i notice. When using Virtual desktop i feel like im in a theater.. a theater floating in space that is. I watched Blade Runner last night... one of my favorites of all time... never saw it at the theater... but last night i did. VRDesktop is not a native video player...so i would assume that downloading the movie and watching from a dedicated VR player would be even better... but i dont want to have to wait to watch a movie.

cool, i've used the Mermaid VR app to watch some youtube files and some 180/360 video demos but that's about it.. seems to work pretty good though, has a 'theatre' option.

Virtual Desktop is worth buying.. Movies, browsing the internet and playing regular non-VR games are fun also. I like to play Civ IV and 7 days to die on the 100" curved screen... its a blast. Only thing is.. you have to use keyboard and mouse... its a little weird becuase you cannot see them... but you get used to it.

isn't the "oculus dash" in Rift Core 2.0 supposed to blow these all out of the water anyway?

I did not know that was available yet.. thought it was still in testing/beta.. i see its now its public. I will try that tonight!

Installed Core 2.0 last night.. very cool. strange thing is..now when i watch hulu i cannot watch in HDR.. only SD...even using Virtual Desktop. Something about output device ... never had that issue before. But the new Rift software is very cool.

weird, I don't have hulu so I can't try that out.. hopefully they fix it anyway.

applied the screen protectors last night, the left one went on just about perfect first try, the right one I messed up somehow.. had rinkles in the center I couldn't get out with the "installation card" (a dummy credit card they included in the box hah).. had to peel it up then back down. now it's fine but there's a small bubble on the right side I can see in my periphery.. might need to buy another pack or try to get it out but probably too late now that it's been sitting there over night.

overall though the clarity is good, I got the 43mm version and it fits quite well, if you move your head up and point eyes down (or any extreme angle like that) you CAN see the 'edge' of the protector, but if you're just looking straight its not noticeable. better than scratching the crap out of the screens with my glasses, i've already noticed a light scratch on my glasses that is probably from the rift so assuming there's a light scratch somewhere that I haven't noticed.

Why oh why didn't a read this sooner? Playing Echo Arena, the disk goes right by my face. I lean over, grab it, going for the epic save! And bam! Time for a new TV. Boundaries are a bit more conservative now.. And my TV is now 4k.. So win?
It is a win! The living room got a 4K TV and the bedroom got a much bigger TV(1080). I showed the wife what you did and I told her I should break the bedroom TV now for a 4K one...
She did not like that.

I do try really hard to stay in a spot and just turn. Most that I do now is hit a controller on the computer desk.

I was using my living room for VR, but my girlfriend and I just moved in together. What is it with women and all their breakable decorations? I need to find a safe place for VR lol

For whatever reason the guardian was turned off, and my buddy was playing a round of Echo Arena...he damn near punched through the plastic/mesh on the front of my floor-standing speaker, when he went to reach for the disc! That happened two weekends ago.

This past weekend, invited another friend over, he is around 6'2", he jumped to slam a basketball in the hoop on Robo Recall, almost took my ceiling fan out, it was running. Lol! Those controllers are stout! We need a ceiling guardian!
