But for every one of those servers, there were 10 more that didn't do it for those very reasons. Those were specific settings on ProCon 3rd party plugins. You could ALWAYS switch servers to one that better fit you. ALWAYS.Meh, there are two sides to it. I don't miss the annoying autobalancers of BF3 and BF4. Too many times you could be having a good round, finally turning the tide on the other team, then the children on the other team start quitting, and boom, you're separated from your squad and teammates and switched to the losing team in the middle of the game. Lame.
And let's not forget all the annoying !punish and !forgive chatbox nonsense that went on all round on HC servers. Or getting auto-kicked for doing too well on a server (ie >5:1 kdr)
I do not miss all that petty bullshit.
All the bitching and complaining forced DICE's hand. They took over this responsibility well before they were capable of doing it. As a a result, we get no admin tools at launch and barely any of the truly important admin tools now 4 months after launch. We finally get kick/ban, but at what cost? Only the server owner has those privileges. There used to be automated tools to handle the bullshit after hours, or even the ability to *gasp* assign multiple admins to handle various times throughout the day. Now the owner of the server is literally the only one who can deal with this stuff. He has to be signed in with his own EA account.
Our clan had nearly 500 people in it's battlefield division alone at the peak of BF4 and ran 5 servers. Now we run one BF1 server which we can almost never keep going and one BF4 server through NFO and the population of our community is dropping fast having switched to other more popular FPS like R6:S and Overwatch. Fortunately, my Clan community is massive and gladly took those members into their ranks when they switched games.
The whole thing has played out almost exactly as people predicted last summer when they first heard the news. There are a few things that did not transpire despite predictions. The real question now is, "has Battlefield series hit rock bottom yet on PC?" Maybe, maybe not, but it leaves a lot they could potentially rebuild from the ground up if DICE does things right.
