Black Desert Online

I only had about an hour to mess with it so far last night and the UI and overall interface was killing me.

The always on mouselook takes some getting used to when you're not used to it and I didn't spend enough time looking at the myriad of options to see if it could be set up more like what I'm used to in FFXIV.

I do like what I see a lot. Its nice looking, the combat is more engaging and the skill trees look interesting.

Just a lot to take in without the time to really sit and study it all. Hoping I'll have more time to do so this weekend. It runs like butter though with the settings cranked and thankfully SLI seems work well on it.

Well... I pre-ordered. I'm pretty sure I get enough content & fun for that 29€.

I ended up getting the Explorer pack this morning, $50 one.

I really like the combat and movement system better in BDO compared to any other fantasy mmo i have played.

Same, bought it last week,

This game makes me a little tingly. Well shit. This is what I get for watching the videos. Pre-ordered.

I'm gonna wait until the second beta to decide. They had a ton of localization stuff to get done, among other stuff. Lot's of polishing. I figure we'll get a much better idea of how the final product will be in the next beta.

They posted a survey wanting feedback on CBT-1. Let them know what you think. Seems like they actually care what the player wants. It's weird.....

I'm tempted to pre order but thi sgame just screams of another game that will go f2p.

Is it F2P in South Korea? Hasn't it been out for years there? I think the "buy once and play forever" model is very solid. Hell, if the game is good enough, I don't have a problem paying a monthly fee. My biggest thing is P2W. I want to see how the shop is going to work. I have no problem with them selling cosmetic stuff, but if it's P2W then I won't play.

Depends. If its done right, like Guild Wars, they wont need to. If it starts dying like TERA, then maybe. TERA had a high sub cost that contributed to going to F2P, BDO has no sub, the model is sound and the player interest is high. I don't see it going that way. Definitely not in the first year.

From what I've read, it's F2P in Russia and Korea. And it's P2W somewhat, but this is all second hand information.

I hope not, but I'm still rather hesitant that it will go that way. I'm also not a big MMO player, though when I get into one, I do play a lot for about half a year.

They are changing it quite a bit from those markets, so i am hopeful.

They know our fears, and they do seem to listen to the community.

Some things are a bit harder to change that the community has asked for, the most outstanding issue seems to be gender locking of classes, which is not a regular concept in the western market.

But Daum seems to listen to some extent more so than i have seen some other developers leading up to a release.

Star Wars the Old republic for example had a beta that was full of some features that were really good then they scrapped them all right before release and dumbed equipment mods and the likes and really trashed the game ignoring the community feedback.

I played for a bit in the beta and I was just really really hoping for more I guess.

It just seemed like more run-of-the-mill walk to npc with quest marker, get meaningless boring quest that aren't engaging at all and focus more on "Busy" work of going and fighting defenseless woodland creatures that are just standing around doing nothing to "collect" crap, complete with the very illogical fact that things don't drop what they should.

IE - go collect 5 eyes from wolves, you fight 5 and only two of them drop a single eye...which makes zero sens and is simply a way for developers to "pad" out the grind of an mmo in the hopes that you'll keep playing to the end.

It's sad to because the combat itself looks and feels engaging, but if they just put more thought and care into the actual game and framework holding up the game.

It's like every mmo since WoW doesn't understand, people are tired and bored of that, they don't find that formula engaging or fun anymore, most people want something new and different.

Also if the point of the game is pvp or such, WHY put that at the "end?" Why put a wall up (The pve) to get to the "fun " stuff?

That has always baffled me about mmo's, everyone rushing to the "end game" to get to the "fun bits" and "meat of the game" so what' sthe point of putting a 80+ hour "grind" that isn't fun to get there???

I don't remember anything like that. It lacked many features though like UI customisations and even group finder. Mods and stats were dumbed down since they replaced strength, aim etc. with mastery but that happened only few months ago in patch 4.0. At first I though that the changes they made in 4.0 were nice but boy did they make it complete faceroll and the levelling is way too fast now.

I believe it was during the closed alpha when they changed it before going into beta.

So its hard to find details on it since the nda was likely in effect and it was so long ago.

It was a pretty robust system that was dumbed down for release, and then sounds like they dumbed it down again in 4.0 which i have not played (have not touched the game in years really)

I really want this game to be good but I'm wary. My biggest concern is that it was originally touted as an open world sandbox PVP game, but then the Koreans cried and got it changed into a PVE carebear fest with heavy penalties on PKing. Problem is there's no substantial PVE endgame content such as dungeons or raids and the enemy AI is as dumb as bricks.

Basically what I was expecting is a PVP focused endgame where the PVE is just there as a backdrop to give players something to fight over; such as good farming spots or rare resources. But between the guild protection and karma systems I really don't know.

The world itself is visually impressive and the combat system is the best I've ever seen in an MMO, but if you're going to grind to 50 in a few days and get bored what's the point? Maybe someone can alleviate some of my fears...

From what I've seen of the developer, they are actively trying to make a game that the players want. You're not the only one that feels the way you do. I want an MMO that has a fun PVE side, but there also needs to be super high end gear, great PVP, raids, etc or I will get bored quick. The dev has probably heard that 1000's of times so far from players. They're changing a lot to make it "westernized", so I really think they'll focus on endgame and PVP as well. They know that westerners want more fighting and less grinding, opposite of what the Russians and Koreans want. They gave them the game they wanted, and it's super successful in those markets. Hopefully they'll deliver exactly the game we all want.

Worst case is it's another blah failure like so many others. We will all skip it and the game will have a tiny player base. That wouldn't surprise me, but I think the dev knows that if they don't make us happy, they aren't gonna sell their cosmetic items, and they aren't going to be super profitable. Hopefully that's motivation enough to make a damn good game.

I'm extremely tempted to preorder so I can play CBT-2, but I might just buy a key for a few dollars. Then make my preorder decision based on my CBT-2 experience.

I have played it since beta. I have not heard anything like that before (about some robust system that was dumbed down). The game has had modable armour pieces for quite some time. At launch there was a lack of those but that changed rather quickly. Now in 4.0 they decided to get rid of like 95% of mods - because mastery replaced all the class specific primary stats, surge and critical got merged. It's kinda nice that all gear is relevant for everyone (since they mastery replaced class specific stuff) but... I don't know. Also gear on companions is purely for visuals. It's good that you can now make your companion look the way you want and it's kinda nice that you don't have to use resources to upgrade your companions gear BUT all those changes in 4.0 mean that things got dumbed down. Everything is really easy and leveling is really fast. Crafting is quite pointless now too.

I bet that they need to make changes soon or people just stop playing because facerolling content is fun only to a certain point. At this point I don't know what is their target audience or who they listen.

At least it looks like Daum seems to listen to people. Lets wait and see...

I'm not a PvP fan myself so I wouldn't mind if they would make PvP free channel for those who do not just like it. I just don't like playing against other people really (especially if it's just mindless wanton slaughter without any real goal). But when I do, I don't suck at it though.

I want to want this...... After Archeage and Tera I am pretty done with korean mmos, I don't have much faith.

http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/6937-post-cbt-1-update/

Greetings,

With CBT-1 complete and the holidays behind us, everyone is getting excited to see an update from the BDO Team. First let me thank you for all of the feedback we have received so far, there has been a staggering amount, and we are excited to see so many people invested in the game. Next week a portion of our team will be going to Seoul to discuss the CBT-1 feedback as well as the CBT-2 and launch plans with the developers. This opportunity will allow us to provide the feedback directly, we believe it is crucial that this level of communication is in place to ensure we provide you with the best service possible.

Following this trip, Project Manager Belsazar will be working on the latest PM Diary, you can expect to see it after the second week of January, check out the previous post here. This will give us time to digest the feedback and we want to make sure that there is actual content to post about. After the new PM Diary is published, Belsazar will begin working on a new Question and Answer session as promised in his previous post.

Thanks again for your enthusiasm, and I look forward to providing more updates!

Was Tera a korean MMO? I did not know that. But Tera was meh, imo.

Name reservations for pre orders start some time during the first week of February

CBT2 Starts Feb. 18th

http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/8038-pm-diary-22-cash-shop-and-more/

Some details on the cash shop looks like most of the important stuff, like carry weight and more inv. slots can be earned by just logging in once a day and getting your mileage points.

Obviously everything is subject to change tho, even after release they can change stuff.

It does look like they listen and want this to work for everyone. So far those plans sound rather solid and good.

Yeah, this DEV seems to actually listen. And they aren't shy about telling the player what's going on, which is rare. I really hope it's a good game. I've been playing FFXIV again, but would love for this game to come out and be amazing, so I can get in on the ground floor instead of playing catch up.

Very happy I pre-ordered this, cannot wait for this to be fully out now.

The graphics for Black Desert look awesome but I'm feeling the burn of Aion and Archeage. Debating trying this or not should I?

Still on FF14 and playing some World of Warships.

I'm stuck in a server Que for 1,072 people have to log in before I can no way in hell am I going to sub just to get in front.

I hope they fix this...
blackdesert642016-01-3urfz.jpg

That face shape just happens to be the one I'm using for my Ranger and it would suck if that spike would be there once the game is out.

I had so many issues logging in on the last CB that I just uninstalled it. I was only able to log in once if I remember correctly.

February is the next closed beta, but I don't think a release is announced yet.
