Fallout 4

If Bethesda made an official Fallout MMO, would you guys play it?

probably not me since I prefer single player gaming and most MMOs don't do that well ... now if they had an online persistent Fallout that didn't involve dealing with other players, then maybe

No. I enjoy ESO for what it is, but it's nowhere near as fun as a normal TES game, and the same would be true for Fallout.

What I would really like to see is Fallout or TES with borderlands style MP. Four player co-op would be a blast, but it can stop there.

I'd play a Fallout MMO in theory, but I don't know if the Fallout universe would really make for a good one. Thousands of survivors running around doing errands and exploring long forgotten pre-war locations? Seems goofy to me.
Not saying it couldn't be done well, but it would probably need a lot of suspension of disbelief.

If they made it in classic MMO format with all the mob farming and killing raid bosses with bazillion hit points? Nope.

Open world roaming game that would have reasonable amount of players sharing each instance? Why not. And actually keep the supposedly better FPS mechanics instead of WOW-style stuff with pressing the buttons in right order and positioning occasionally to avoid AoE.

I ALMOST started reinstalling Fallout 3 this morning to time travel back to '08.

Then I realized I'll be playing F4 in 48 hours and this just seemed silly.

Probably depends on how well they did with the city building/crafting mechanics in FO4 ... if each player established a base and could trade or raid other cities they might come up with an interesting MMO element ... however, since the big thing with the FO Universe is exploring the vaults, learning the history, and dealing with the post apocalypse factions, those are all stronger in the SP environment

hahaha, I did the exact same thing, except thinking about playing New Vegas again.

Same. lol. Back to Prison Architect.

Also, 2008?! It honestly felt like 3 years ago ... I must be getting old. :(

No. Fallout needs coop, not an MMO.

This! Would be fun to explore with one buddy. My Steam BFF and I keep talking about how great playing Fallout 4 is gonna be, but then get bummed with the looming realization that we'll be playing alone.. Co-op would be magical.

Only if it was actually like fallout and not like every-other mmo (like how ESO is).

Open world, sandbox (IE go anywhere, no "level" based zones or things).

Also the ability to actually play how you want, good, bad, neutral, no forced "everyone is the chosen one" crap that doesn't fit with mmo's when there's thousands of other "chosen ones" running around.

do enemies scale with the player?...hopefully not...I want certain areas to be too high level- like those Deathclaw's in New Vegas

Me, too. I really liked the way that was all handled in New Vegas.

The really sad thing is that people who got to play early alphas and betas of ESO said it was exactly like the Elder Scrolls series and not like every other MMO. Bethesda completely changed it half way through development, which broke the fuck out of it.

Yes and no. Based on everything I've read and Todd Howard's statements, we'll actually be getting an even better version of that with "rubberbanding" aka "relative scaling".

Meaning, yes, certain areas will have enemies in a predetermined range of levels, but there's up-scaling relative to player level. So one area might have Super Mutants that can range from 10-20, but you're level 12, so it'll spawn Super Mutants in the range of 12-15. So there's a little bit of randomness (a good thing for variation in challenge). It *sounds* similar to the way Borderlands does it. And I really like the way Borderlands does it.

So there will be a "minimum level" for an area to an extent, but it won't be like FO3/NV where you have absolutely no chance in a high level area, just a very small chance. To me, that's the perfect balance of fun vs. challenge, rather than purely static levels. I think there will also be exceptions to this system for certain special enemies.

Wouldn't it make more sense for them to do a worldwide launch at the same time?

That is what they're doing. Except different parts of the world have different times.

I'm guessing you just want them to unlock it a day earlier for the US, which isn't going to happen.

thats not really what he was saying, he means it should unlock for everyone at the same time as in a world wide release not a regional release.

It doesn't unlock for everyone at the same time.

but a vpn is a click away.

unlocking for everyone at the same time would be weird as some places would unlock at midnight, others at 3:00 PM, 4:00 AM, 7:00 PM etc

Gotcha. I know there are legal issues involved that we're not privy to, as well as politics between publishers and B&M stores as far as why it unlocks at midnight in every local time (except Asia/Japan, oddly, for its own reasons). Oh well, we've waited 6 years. I'm sure a few extra hours isn't going to kill anyone.

yet that is how many games operate they unlock the game at a set time typically 0:00 GMT in this case it is 00:00 JST which is how it should work.

That's usually how it works here in NZ. Games usually get unlocked at a time that suits the US, which is normally like 2am here.

Gotcha. Not a big deal I reckon.
