Fallout 4

you guys don't get what I'm saying...I'm not talking about violating non disclosure agreements etc...don't you guys play a lot of games??...there is always quite a few articles, early impression pieces etc before a game is released from official gaming sites from the time a game is officially announced...mostly to generate hype but also to see how the game is coming along...I haven't much about Fallout 4 except for those official S.P.E.C.I.A.L videos dealing with Strength, Luck etc

I think they have gone with a more controlled marketing campaign this time, maybe because they are hoping to attract a larger (and newer) audience with the new crafting mechanics ... they may have felt that they didn't want to risk exposure from the wrong people that might jeopardize their new audience ... they also had the Fallout Shelter game which was essentially a marketing tool as well

they also seem to be going with a more Blizzard style marketing campaign (not sure if they are copying Blizzard or this is feedback from the Id team) with lots and lots of merchandise ... the Bethesda store has been doing give aways weekly for the last couple of months and they have announced some new merchandising option monthly since their announcement in the early summer ...

finally since they announced and did the big reveal so close to the launch (only 5 months before their launch date) they haven't had to work too hard to keep the emotions high and interest peaked (like you might have to if you announce a year or more before your launch) ... I would attribute the blame to these factors rather than a high risk of software quality for the limited previews

They simply don't need to do it. The game is crazy anticipated. If they fuck it up it will be nearly unbelievable to me. They just have to do more of what's already been done with hopefully less bugs in the beginning and it will be great. Anyone that's played Fo3, NV or Skyrim should know what they're getting. If those aren't someone's bag then this probably won't be either.

Talking about Skyrim really doesn't hype me up. If they learned a bit from Obsidian on Fallout theme and setting, that would hype me more.

Bethesda should be attempting to improve their formula.

I've never played Fallout 3 or new vegas(The horror I know.). So I'm trying to figure out what the best way of going about just modding it in the style of Stalker Complete. The best cleanest experience updated to todays standards. I'm sitting through Gophers walkthroughs online, but holy shit its like 8 hours of tutorials. How come nobody ever made a FO3 complete edition?

I've gotten as far as installing the nexus manager, I reorged some games because I want a new clean install on an SSD and then I'll start these walkthroughs. Whats your all's take on FO3 has anybody played it recently and had thoughts on mods?

Simple question, at least in my mind....

How much time would you spend modding the game to get it to look like you want it to?

Edit: I understand your question. All I'm attempting to do is understand what you want FO4 and, possibly, FO3 to look the way you want them to.

The writing in New Vegas was better but I found the world of FO3 a lot more enjoyable to explore. NV felt really empty somehow, I didn't have that "Oooh, I wonder what's over there?" feeling as much as I did in FO3.

I think thats why I specifically mentioned stalker complete. Thats the best I can describe what I'm looking for. I'm not interested in getting more than the graphics updated as much as possible and gameplay fixes. Truthfully I'll spend maybe 2 hours tomorrow getting things as best I can. I'll give it an hour of play to see if theres anything really pissing me off then call it good.

This video seems good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lV5yPwDa9CQ , but he doesn't explain if theres some order I need to install these. Thats my biggest fear. I want a list of the like 10 or so most important mods and in what order to install them, if thats going to be an issue.

Admittedly I just saw a dynamic depth of field mod which made me realize I need to stay as far away from nxus as possible.

Forget about any of that and just follow these guides (and I mean read the damn things, don't skim):
Fallout 3
New Vegas

Then just pick an ENB preset of your choosing.

seems like a lot of Fallout and Elder Scrolls fans get locked in a vault after playing the newest games in the respective series and don't come out until the next game in that series comes out...lots more casual gamers come out for a new Fallout game :D

Some images of the PS4 version surfacing around the internet. Game is looking really rough on consoles.

anyone else worried that we are barely hearing any news about gameplay, early impressions or previews of the game?

Game doesn't come out for another week. NDA's are usually lifted a day or couple days before.

another guy who doesn't get what I'm saying...is this [H] or has this placed transformed into an alternate universe bizarro version of itself?...I'm going to explain this in basic terms...almost every big game ever is shown multiple times from the time it is announced to the time it is released at gaming conventions like E3 etc...it is also shown at closed events to a group of reporters where they get to play a few levels or maybe watch the developers play the game...look at a game like the upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided...there have been multiple previews or early impressions posted from multiple reputable gaming sites...this is how things are done

with Fallout 4 nothing has been shown outside of the initial release announcement videos and those S.P.E.C.I.A.L videos...I'm not saying the game is going to be bad or anything but it's just weird that they are not showing anything at all...Bethesda showed plenty of footage of Skyrim or Fallout 3 before release...are they taking a page out the Force Awakens movie and showing very little footage on purpose to save the good stuff?...I like the Force Awakens approach but for Fallout it just seems weird...is Bethesda hiding something?...did they get annoyed when people were talking about the less then amazing graphics of the announcement trailer?...either way I'm buying the game but it seems like a strange approach to take

Well, we'll know in 10 days ... there has been lots of interviews and other reveals but only on Bethesda's terms ... I think it is just a AAA developer trying to take a more hands on approach to marketing (which isn't a bad thing) ... the initial reveal just months before the launch date is also unusual but I think that Bethesda is just trying to control their project more tightly ... this go round they had the special edition (which garnered a quick sell out and good publicity) ... they had the fancy rerelease packaging of the previous Fallout titles (in the Nuke case) ... and they had the Fallout Shelter mobile game (which kept interest high) ... I think they have gone more controlled on this release because they can (but as I said, we will know definitively soon)

The other thing I think kept them tighter on this one was the crafting and city building element ... they may have been doing last minute tweaking to that, or they might have felt that the traditional RPG crowd might not give it the positive feedback they needed to attract the Minecraft crowd to the game ... they didn't want to play up the RPG elements (because it might scare that crowd away and the RPG crowd would be onboard either way) ... since Fallout has been a smaller audience than the Elder Scrolls I think they are trying to up their game and bump the Fallout numbers more ... that's my impression at least

hope it doesn't have a ton piece of paid dlc

All Bethesda games have tons of paid DLC but all of them are expansion like in nature or optional capabilities and none of them will be available until several months after launch with the last probably close to the 1 year mark (if Skyrim and Fallout 3 is any indication)

I don't think you've followed Bethesda fully. They showed plenty at E3. They announce the game, some footage then release shortly after. This is standard operating procedure for Bethesda.. We only saw Skyrim footage at E3 as well.

Even if it has the same clunky feeling engine that all the rest of these games have, and it probably will, as long as the gameplay is on par with prior fallouts I will still buy it and gleefully play it for hundreds of hours like all the rest of them.

I'm ordering the game from Amazon because I have some credit built up but a part of me is thinking about waiting for some official reviews and just getting Battlefront instead...usually when these graphics downgrade topics come up they're almost always correct

Downgrade? It's exactly what they showed at E3.

Where the downgrade buzzword becomes a big internet circlejerk is when a company shows uber graphics at E3 or in early advertisements and then delivers less than implied.

yeah, there needs to be a new word for this then...when a company delivers on their promise of mediocre to below average graphics or maybe undersells just how last-gen the visuals will be :D ...but remember, there will be crafting in this :D

True dat. I think many gamers these days have just fallen into a default position of skepticism with any big new release these days. The rushed and broken releases stand out more than the successes, so people are perpetually keyed up for disappointment now. If every multiplatform release was like GTA5 PC for example then maybe the situation would be different, but the current climate is somewhat understandable.

That said, I think this studio deserves the benefit of the doubt. Worst crime they've committed historically is having buggy games at launch (and arguably long after launch, which modders ended up fixing). But they've never really overpromised. Could very well be that the base building part of the game for example turns out to be shallow and pointless, who knows, but I'm pretty optimistic.

For anyone that enjoyed the exploration in Fallout 3 then I think its a pretty safe bet that this game will deliver more of it in spades. That's why you play a game like this. The merits of anything beyond the exploration and being able to lose yourself in a huge sandbox gameworld is subjective.

Has Bethesda ever really been know for their cutting edge graphics ... for that you always looked to Crytek and Id and the like (companies who wanted to sell their graphics engines to others) ... I generally like my cutting edge graphics that bring my system to a crawl on shooters and not RPG games ... for the RPGs it is about the world, the skills, and the story ... the graphics need to be good enough but I don't expect cutting edge graphics necessarily ... shooters just need to look pretty since almost no one expects them to have story or sophisticated gameplay
